Animated signatures problem

When I view a page with an animated sig file, my page slows down somethin' fierce. I know that I can simply turn off signatures, but I like to see some of them.

So a quick poll, would you like to see animated signatures removed?

I sometimes have that problem with animated avatars and sigs. Usually it's ok but on rare occassion my system crawls as long as the animated picture is on the screen.

I think this is a browser thing, based on me viewing this website on both old and new versions of IE, and on broadband and dialup.

But they should go. They're juvenile and pointless. If you want to say something about yourself, there's still avatars and text sigs. I'm glad that most people here don't use them; I really hate message boards where every page is taken up mostly by people's sigs.

I have problems with slowdown on the sig with the guy bobbing his head (I think it is Counterstrike?). But I don't know the username.

You're lucky then. I've got a fast system, lots a RAM and all that, but I still get slowdown each and everytime they are on the page. I think I'll wait it out, maybe they'll get removed. If not I'll just turn them off.

bump.

Animated pictures in the forums is getting worse in my opinion and I've been to topics that were so bad I literally had to close my browser to get out.

I'm on broadband, I use either MSIE or Firefox, and I use one computer that's reasonably up to date, and another raggedy-ass old computer.
On both of them the animated sigs/avatars used processing power and RAM that I'd rather use somewhere else; I ended up blocking both sigs and avatars, because they were extraneous information I don't need to see.
I was on one messageboard, and the guy had his avatar linked to a free hosting service, and it was either wrong or his bandwidth had run out--all I saw was a 'This account has exceeded' pic taking up 2/3 of my screen.

Note: Sorry, I had browser difficulties and accidentally posted twice. Can I delete a post?

It seems like it's a browser problem and has nothing to do with your computer or internet connection.[/quote]

The sig in question on that thread has given me problems, however not consistently. Sometimes that sig will slow my machine down, but only while it's on-screen. If I scroll past it, everything is fine. This is on two different machines, and I also tried a browser other than IE.

BTW if you ARE having the animated sig problem, do NOT click on the link above.

I'm sorry in advance...

Maybe you should worry about the processing power and ram being wasted on double posting!

I'm so sorry! I can't help myself when obvious jokes come along.

I've had that problem once so far but strangely enough, shutting down IE and reloading the page solved the problem. I've since switched to Mozilla (I got sick of all the fucking pop-ups) but you should try clearing out your temporary internet files. You'd be surprised just how much doing that can improve the performance of your browser, not to mention your computer.

maybe we could limit sigs to a certain l x w and 50k? i don't know what a good guideline would be. i haven't had any problems. i do have a problem with sigs being too big. i would say defender's is at the limit height wise for a pic. text should have limit too.
