Heard this game has a lot of bugs in it... but the story might be worthwhile to play through it.

Waiting for it to be a little cheaper.

I believe Majesco has been in financial troubles lately and has canceled alot of games because of it, including some for X360 and PSP.

IGN-----"Majesco Sees Red, Titles Dead"

The woes aren't ending for Majesco, which last year lost its CEO and saw Psychonauts and Advent Rising stagnate at retail while its stock dropped. Late Wednesday the company reported stinging net losses for 2005 -- a bleed of $70.9 million -- while announcing the cancellation of two more titles and a significant reduction in staff.

"Looking to stem costs and shift its focus back to value-priced and handheld gaming, Majesco announced during its earnings conference call that it has canceled both Taxi Driver -- a multi-platform action title based on the famous Scorsese film -- and Xbox 360 project Demonik. The two games are only the latest title losses for the company: Majesco cancelled PSP titles BloodRayne and Advent Shadow late last year and recently sold the rights to Ghost Rider and The Darkness to a still-unnamed publisher."

I look for Psychonauts to drop in the same way soon.

I would pick up Advent Rising for $10 . . . I rented it last summer . . . quite a let down.

I do have the penny guide just waiting.

I would highly reccomend this game, especially for $20. I bought it for $50 on day one.

Absolutely amazing story. Cool characters, cool atmosphere, phenomenal music, cool powers. If you can look past technical shortcomings, this is quite a game. Easily in my top five for Xbox this past gen. I had been looking forward to its release over a year before it came out, and the developers had quite a plan for the franchise. Supposedly, by the end of the trilogy, you were to be able to move mountains, planets, etc with your mind!

BTW, the end of the game (AFTER the credits) is ABSOLUTELY, 100%, AMAZING!

I actually saw it today at a gamestop that just opened up right by my house for 9.99 new, plus 10% off. They were running some promotional deals as a part of the new opening, so a bunch of bin games were marked 10% off, but were going for retail price.

Maybe someone else can confirm if GS is doing 9.99 for B&M.

This was a great game mared by a horrible framerate, which made an interesting targeting system not work very well.

It would be worth the $20 bucks to check out the story but if framerate issues bother you in games stay far away from Advent Rising.

This game has the worst framerate of any game I have ever played.

Did you get to play in the "win $1,000,000" contest? Wondering what that was like and how it worked.

The funny thing is it didn't work. They didn't get enough people to enter into it so they ended up sending everyone that entered into it two free games for Xbox from the company and a lot of people got Pschyonauts free.

I enetered and i got no free game :bomb:

Anyways the game is realy not worth $20, i would just hold off till everyone can just find this in the bargain bin. It has its fun moments but they are rare.

it wasn't a matter of people not entering, it was a matter of a lot of people not being ABLE to enter. there were technical problems with the system they had in place on live from the beginning, with a lot of people saying the icon that was downloaded from live that players were supposed to locate for the contest wasn't even showing up like it was supposed to, or they were unable to download it because of technical issues on live. since most people who entered the contest weren't even able to complete the necessary task to win (somewhat difficult to locate an icon that never even appeared), they decided after trying to fix it unsuccessfully for a while to just give up and offer the two free games dealy.

This game has the worst framerate of any game I have ever played.

The framerate issue cam be overcome a few different ways:

(taken from Berserker's FAQ over at Gamefaqs)

======================
- Framerate Problems -
======================

---------------------------
- The Morrowind Technique -
---------------------------

(taken directly from aminojaku's thread on GameFAQs)

"I've had the game crash on me a few times, and I've had the framerate
problems now and then that others are complaining about. It was frustrating to
say the least. But yesterday I realized I remember another game with issues
very much like Advent.. Morrowind. So when it crashed for the second time in
20 minutes last night I decided to try the fix that was used for Morrowind..
and it worked. I continued playing Advent for 4 hours, all the way to the end.
^_^

So here you go.. for those who may not remember..

What we are going to do is clear out Advent's cache on the HDD. The HDD keeps
a data cache of the last 3 games played on the HDD in order to cut down on
initial load times a little. But with Morrowind, once in a while that cache
gets corrupted and causes the game to keep crashing. The more you play after
it crashes the first time, the more often it crashes. Very much like Advent.
And like Morrowind, the fix is simple. Take 3 games that you haven't played in
a while.. 3 that are not the last 3 games you played. And put them in your
Xbox and start them up. All 3, one at a time. You don't need to play them or
save a game.. just load them. So now when you play Advent again, it reloads
the cache from scratch, eliminating the bad data that was a cause of some of
the issues.

Give this a try if you are having a lot of problems with Advent (crash,
lockups and really bad framerate issues)."

(Thanks to aminojaku)

-------------------------------------
- The Morrowind Technique Revisited -
-------------------------------------

This is a guaranteed way to stop the Majesco screen from stuttering upon
startup of Advent Rising.

Just like in the Morrowind Technique you have to swap out games, but you only
have to use one of them for this. Start up any game from your collection, it
doesn't matter if you just got through with it or if you haven't played it in
a while just start up any game besides Advent Rising. Take out the game after
it has loaded up on the Xbox. Now put in Advent Rising and the Majesco screen
should not skip. You have to do this every time that the Xbox console is
turned off, but you only have to load up one game when you start it up again.
I have noticed that the framerate works about 5 - 10% better it seems after
this is done, but it might just be me.

---------------------
- Project: Clean Up -
---------------------

If your Xbox hardrive is loaded with saves or especially soundtracks, delete
some of the files that you may no longer use in the future. Soundtracks
usually take up the most room, so delete them first and see if this helps.

-------------------------
- Frequent Playthroughs -
-------------------------

Strangely enough, for some people, playing through it many times has resulted
in the game running smoother on their Xbox.

For those who have finished this game, about how long is a full playthrough?
