Took me a while to configure this, but I finally got it right. The above list is a compilation of all the new previews, hands-on reports, videos, interviews, etc. that just came out. I know I already made another topic about this, but I thought I'd make a general topic about the game so that people could discuss it.

I hope you enjoy it. :)

I have already placed a preorder down for the Collectors Edition of the game for the 360 and I can't wait for this game to get released. It's been in development for almost 4 years now. I know once I get my copy I'm going to dance around like a joyous idiot, yay.

Anyways... What are your opinions about this game?

It's the only huge game in March I will have to skip on buying for a while (money issues). Aside from that fact it still looks amazing and I can't wait to waste my whole summer playing it.

I cannot wait for this to come out. I've banned myself from buying any other games until Oblivion comes out to prepare myself (and because it's going to set me back about 76 big ones).

Yeah, I know what you mean. Lots of good games are coming out in March for the 360. GRAW, The Outfit, Battlefield 2?, Burnout Revenge?, and not confirmed, but definetly probable, OBLIVION!

^I recommend you not get it on launch, but more toward the end of your finals. It would be tempting to start, and then addicting.

Me, I didnt even know what this game was about, just that lots of people wanted it. Im not to big of an rpg fan, but did like KoToR and Fable, and after listening to gamerandys podcast and the preview, im now hyped up for a big rpg adventure.

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I told my friend this was going to be a great game and he was like, "no dude..", or something like that. He read an EGM preview and instantly changed his mind...

My older brother got me into this series about 2 years ago when he uncovered his copy of Arena. I was suprised it was complete with the instruction manual and box. This game took up a whopping 5 floppy disks and back then you had to send away for the patch which was also in the box my brother found. You can download this game for free on The Elder Scrolls website now.

Back on topic to Oblivion now, here's the Wiki site - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_IV:_Oblivion
Lots of information on there.

I had no problems with Morrowind GOTY except for the combat. I hope they improve the combat this time around and It's more fluid, and this game should own and be enough RPG for me for my 360 for a good year +

I started playing TES III: Morrowind again this year, and I simply had to stop. I'd find myself spending an entire day playing it, and I just can't be doing that because the college work doesn't finish itself. TES laughs at your feeble attempts at self-control... I just hope that Oblivion doesn't single-handedly ruin me.

If ANY CAG pays $76 for the CE, they are nuts. BestBuy.com has it for $65. Plus, there is a 10% off coupon for Best Buy. So, you should be able to get it for $60 or so.

I have it on pre-order....only the regular edition. I'm not a BIG RPG fan, but enjoyed a few.

Gaming Steve's new hands-on preview is up. The OP is updated with the link to it. I'm going to listen to it in a little bit here. Enjoy. :)

Its too bad the series has been compromised in order for the developers to sell to a larger market by making the games on consoles.

The graphics, interface, and gameplay have been altered from the original spirit of the series in order to make the game playable on a console, and to me that's just selling out.

I'll be getting the PC version and hoping that the developers haven't forgotten that this kind of game is MADE for the PC.

Oblivion guide for $12.77
Ugh, Prima got the rights for the guide?

The Morrowind guide was decent, but Prima has fallen a long way since then. I wish they would have got the same author is that guide, but I don't think they did... I'm going to have to look at this one in the store before I blindly throw down money on it.

After getting tons and tons of penny guides, when it comes to PC ones Prima is the worst... Brady is a bit better, and Sybex is the king of them all.

Why do people seem inclined to get the 360 version over the PC version? The PC version of Morrowind was superior (at least I'm told, never played the Xbox morrowind), and the PC version of Oblivion should be better than the 360 version (as long as you have the PC horsepower). Plus the PC version is cheaper.

What am I missing? Did they really develop Oblivion with console controls in mind? Or does the 360 version look as good as the PC version running on state of the art hardware? Playing on a big TV opposed to the monitor?

My first inclination is to get the PC version, if only for the inevitable patches, mods, expansion packs, etc. But I'd be willing to give the 360 version a chance (and wait for the inevitable expansion-included gold collection in two years for the PC) if it's got some positives.

The answer is four fold. I don't want to waste the cash to upgrade my pc to the specs this game would require. My eyes have gotten used to playing games on the big screen HDTV. I sit in front of a computer half the day at work I'd rather not spend hours on end sitting in front of one at home. My computer is only used for work and porn. :D

PC version is better simply because it includes the TES Construction Set, meaning we'll see a boatload of mods to the game very quickly. Some of the mods for Morrowind made it feel like a whole different game, and there are 1000's of them... I expect the same for Oblivion.

The only disadvantage is Oblivion will require a good PC to run imo, so most people are just inclined to get it for the 360.

Some reasons why I am getting the Xbox 360 version instead of the PC version are: I can sit on my couch and relax while I am playing on a nice TV, the 360 version will take advantage of the rumble pack which allows for a little realism, I like to chill out with friends on my couch while playing. I would like to get the PC version for the mods and everything. Maybe I will get it sometime down the road when I have finished the main quest on the 360 version.
Why do people seem inclined to get the 360 version over the PC version?
People that have a PC good enough to run this game probally love PC games and not console games, so they'll get the PC version. People that paid $400 for the Xbox 360 probally like console games more than PC games and after paying so much for a new console, probally didn't buy hundreds of dollars in PC equipment to be able to play this game. That's why they make games on multiple platforms so everybody can play on whatever system they have.
Anybody know what retailer it would be better to buy from? Gamestop.com or Ebgames.com?
I would rather order ebgames.com, I have ordered from gamestop.com and their customer service sucked. I had to return games 2 times in a row before I could get a game that worked..
Anybody know what retailer it would be better to buy from? Gamestop.com or Ebgames.com?
Depends. If you want to save a few bucks on shipping, you can use FREESHIPALL at Gamestop.com. Otherwise, I'd probably go with Ebgames.com.

Anyone know of any differences between the regular and limited edition? Any bonuses worth spending the extra ten bucks on? I was talked into getting the collectors edition but can change my mind should I want to. Also, it wouldnt be a bad idea to pick the guide up as well, right? I'm not new to the series, so that was probably a dumb question, but is anyone else thinking the guide is a worthy investment?

The guide comes with the limited edition.. well.. A guide, dunno if its THE guide.. sounds more like a 'welcome to Tamriel!' pamphlet.

Depends upon how the guide is... Prima has been dumping out bad guides lately.

I've never played any Elder Scrolls game. What would you compare them to? I enjoy RPG's, games like Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve, Fable, etc.. I've got exactly $70 in credit, so all I have to do is say the word and the collector's edition is mine.. but.. I dunno. What would you guys compare the game to? And how's the combat? I like my RPG's where I control the action, like Fable.. Not push a button and watch them attack like KOTOR.

Well number 3's combat was pretty bad, but I enjoyed it. It was pretty much swing and hit, no real strategy(that I found anyway). And for gameplay is basically a big free roaming game. Go any where, kill anything type of game.

And I'm still on the fence about the guide, but I can get it for 20% less when I go to pick up my copy of the game.

Hopefully most people got in on the $49.99 deal back a few months @ outpost.com

Eh.. Swing and hit might get repetitive, but everything else sounds fun. I think i'll pick up the CE.

As I have said before, they said that the combat system would be nothing like morrowind (dice rolling, suckiness). Its more skill oriented now and supposedly a lot more fun.
PC Gamer (UK) gave it a 93%. Here's some scans.

Yeah I saws those over at g4 forums. The review goes into too much detail about some quests, so if you want some quests to be a total suprise skip those parts (italicized parts). But, if you want to read some good quest stories and don't really care, go ahead and read because the stories are great!

Great work bro on putting all this information together for us, thank you. I'll be getting the 360 collectors edition. PC gaming is great but can be to much of a pain in the a$$ sometimes with all the complications that happen from time to time so I stick with console gaming. Plus, I have a 360 and I'm going to play the hell out of it.
