For school I usually get up around 6:30, but not this morning. Just a little after 5 my parents dash in the room and start screaming my name and they asked me "your car horn is going off and it won't stop", I dash out of bed thinking someone was fucking with my car so I run outside and my car horn is blaring louder than hell for no apparent reason what soever in my driveway. I quickly opened the door and tapped the horn to shut it off, after checking the exterior of the car and the tires just to make sure nothing was done to it. I get back inside and my parents said they tapped the horn a few times to try to get it to stop and they said they even started it but they couldn't get it. Does anyone know why this happened? I've never heard of anything like this before happening, I'm just glad it wasn't at 2 in the morning.

I think your car was trying to (loudly) tell you to stop spinning Slipknot, Atreyu and Hawthorne Heights CDs in the disc changer.

She just wanted a little revenge with an equally annoying sound.

(It was probably a short, though.)

I had this happen once to me in my old Camaro, the horn just went nuts on night! After a couple good hits it stopped, and never did it again. Weird! But like the last poster said, it could be a possible short, especially if it does it again. What kind of car is it?

You listen to too much Satanic music, and your car is possessed.

Who you gonna call - god warrior!

It's just too bad your horn doesn't play Dixie when it goes off, like the General Lee.

I say its a short. My mom had a grand prix that did this. I was home alone in the dead of winter with 2 feet of snow outside. I was playing a game, and I kept hearing this low horn sound. Went outside it was her car, I tried to open the hood (no gloves) but I couldn't. So I taped the horn like OP.

Could be a lot of things. My old Mazda actually had a problem where after many years, the sponge thing inside the wheel between the metal plates deteriorated enough so that when it was very cold out the metal plates would contract enough to touch either other and thus sound the horn. Nothing like running out of your apt in freezing weather in the middle of the night to fix it (usually by banging the wheel, as you did).

I eventually had to start keeping a pair of pliers in my car and disconnecting the battery when I parked it to make sure the horn didn't go off. Fun times.

LOL I hate slipknot now, believe me their CD is definitely not in my car but I have a 99 Ford escort ZX2 w/ 48,000 mi. on it.
