Personalities of CAG members

optimusprime

CAGiversary!
Do you find members of this site to be:

1) generally nice people, or

2) angry, bitter people with a chip on their shoulder (for whatever reason)?

I vote for number 2......although I've personally taken limited criticism (maybe one or two instances....whatever), I've found that in general, people on this site like to get mad over everything. I wonder why that is? Do CAGers get beat up a lot in gym class? Who knows?

This should be interesting.

This seems like the type of thread that would be started by an angry, bitter person with a chip on their shoulder. :whistle2:s

You'd be angry and bitter if you had to carry Chip on your shoulder, too. That dude is all kinds of flabby.

I agree that people seem to take offense a bit too easily on these threads. I'd suggest changing the choices for the poll, however. Calling yourself a jerk isn't an attractive option, nor is facetiously calling other people dumb. Suggestions:

1.) I am generally willing to give people the benefit of the doubt that their posts are in good humor.
2.) I find that a lot of people are in fact quick to insult others and thus interpret many posts here as mean-spirited or juvenile.
3.) My blood may rise quickly in some threads, but I usually cool down if I think I misinterpreted a post.
4.) I have a sense that some specific CAGers are irritating people and its only their posts that I respond to negatively, if they mouth off.

You know what i hate?!?! People who start stupid polls!!! Go back to your hole, fanboy!!

Actually, i'm just kidding. he he. um, yeah...

I think there are a handful of people here who like to do their best to ruin CAG for all of us, but most of us are just here to enjoy some good old fashioned discussion!

I got lightly flamed recently because i started a poll called "Is buying an XBox worth alienating my wife?" I really should have said, "If you wanted a new game system and your husband/wife didn't want you to get it, would you anyway?" But, people jumped all over me accusing me of being an asshole, and of being insensitive to my wife, and of having "serious issues." All i was trying to do was spark a little discussion about how we handle significant others when they don't understand our interest in gaming, and instead what i got was marriage advice.

So, i think we have 5 main categories of posters here:
1. the always-here, always-helpful, CAG grandaddies who have been here from the start and are pretty cool.
2. the always-here, usually-rude, CAG know-it-alls who will jump all over you and start a flame war if you misspell an FFVII character name.
3. the average nice person, looking for deals, a sense of community, etc., who doesn't post unless they have a question or something constructive/funny to add.
4. the i'm-the-funniest-guy-in-the-world poster who thinks that it's their job to bestow upon us their (sometimes frighteningly) unfunny remarks such as, "I've got a hard weiner in my fridge, who wants it?"
5. the beefsnorkling assmonkeys who have around 25 posts, all of which were comments like, "that's gay," and "your a fag," and "teh sucz," and "your a stupid virgine." These people contribute virtually nothing.

And i also think there should be a rule that you must know the difference between "your" and "you're" if you're going to post your comments here.
Horray for #2 and #4!
yeah, i can deal with #2 and #4, so long as they don't start whole threads with a statement about weiners....

it's #5 i could really do without...
i think im a mix of 1 and 2, i help when i can but when i want i can be a jerk, all in fun tho ^^
i'm not saying that no one ever deserves to get flamed... some people practically BEG for it.

I don't recall anybody flaming you...just received a lot of mis-directed advice is all. Now that I'm aware of them, though, I'm gonna keep an eye out for those beefsnorkling assmonkeys. They'd make good avatars! I'll keep my screencap utility handy when I browse the threads..

well, one guy called me "a jerk for posting this," and there were a few others. nothing too harsh; just what i'd call a "light" flaming.

yeah, those assmonkeys are a wily bunch. actually, i've just been waiting for an opportunity to use the term "beefsnorkeler." ...does that put me in category #4??.....

EDIT: fixed spelling.

I think alot of your perception will be colored by the amount and variety of threads you read. My postings run the entire gamut from serious flamewars to light hearted television theme song parodies. Of course, if you didn't read the board that often, you'd probably see one or the other, and your entire opinion would be colored by that.

I mean, if you only read a couple of threads like the Cloudspeekk trade fiasco or the recent "scam an/or exploit" threads, you'd think that.. of course, if you read the "off topic thread on off topic topics" you'd think the exact opposite.

im the weird poster. i post stuff thats so wrong, i once made jesus cry. im pretty nice, and only got into a flame war once, with MWL. but i make many bad/nasty/disturbing jokes. look at the exploding penis thread to see what i mean.

you forgot a person organic cow

6. Game store pimps trying to make a buck while at the same time being helpful and having fun and even contributing his time to help with site maintenance. Occasionally having a flame war with some odd member over something stupid.

doh!

I think I'm a decent law abiding nice guy on these boards. At times I may get opinionated, but I try to keep a good sense of humor which is a must.

On a side note, if enough people vote that they're are jerk, you think that Optimus will be leaving ala SqueakyCleanSkater?!

i think you get what you deserve here.

if you post something good or funny, people say "hey that's good" or "wow that's funny". if you post something stupid, then the people let you know about that, too. there's nothing wrong with that.

there are some people who think they are funnier than they really are, though. and then you have the people who post just to post.

I agree for the most part, but unfortunately there will always be people who actively look for opportunities to be a dick. But hey, you gotta take the bad if you wanna take the good!!
