From Magic Box:
"Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi said that Castlevania does not fit with Wii, because the Wii market is for people who want to have new experience, these type of people do not have time to play lengthy games like Castlevania; also he does not have a good idea to make use of the Wii controller in the game.

If this is true, a few points:

1. The Wii controller can be used as a, uhh, whip maybe?
2. No one likes long games? Zelda? Metroid? Why wouldn't someone want to play a long game on a console rather than the DS?
3. If a new one is to be made, though...please, God, don't let them model it off of the Ps2 Castlevanias.

Isn't this the same thing people used to say about the DS? "Well, the touch screen..." before they realized, you know, you don't have to use the touch screen. That's partly why I'm not so ready to believe it (in addition to the fact that there are two Castlevania games for the DS).

This seems incredibly short-sighted. Maybe Konami will make the NES, SNES, Genesis, and PC Engine Castlevanias available on the Virtual Console to guage interest in a new 2D console version. I thought I read in a past interview of Iga (I think in Play Magazine) that he was worried that today's players wouldn't accept visuals like those found on the DS and GBA blown up to standard television size.

in the newst nintendo power with castlevania ds 2 on the cover they interviewed iga and he stated nothing like this. i wish i had the mag to quote him but i dont. if anyone does please type up his response to developing for Wii.

if i remember correctly he says something along the lines that if the Wii is well recieved then he would have no problem bring castlevania to Wii

can anyone confirm?

Unfortunately, while you don't have to use the touch screen, they forced it into Dawn of Sorrow as a stupid gimmick, which even IGA said was a bad idea, and that they were just looking to make use of it somehow.
3d Castlevania games suck anyways
the word "suck" seems a little strong.
however, i would have to agree and say that the 3D Castlevania games are inferior to the 2D Castlevania games.

I think that he's probably still looking to make another 3D Castlevania game of sorts and he just can't come up with any worthwhile way of making one that works well with the controller for the Wii. That's fine, he can always change his mind in the future if things change.

Personally I would love it if he took a chance and released one hell of a lush 2D or 2 1/2D Castlevania on a current system. The only problem would be, obviously, that he would need a godly art team that wouldn't mind heavy, exhaustive work for a good year and a half straight.

Yeah, he said he likes the controller and if it's well-received he'd like to work on it.

It could always be done in full 3D but moving on a 2D plane (like Duke Nukem Manhattan Project for example, I think that would look good).

I wouldn't say it was forced but it was pretty gimmicky. But then again, didn't he also say that he felt the DS was the final stand for 2D games or something..?

As much as I'd like to see Castlevania Wii, I have to disagree with Wiimote being used as a whip. While it would make sense, think about how tired your arm would be after... 5 minutes.

I guess now some people are saying that the interview was mistranslated by whoever submitted it, and he actually said that he probably wouldn't use the motion sensitive features because it wasn't right for a Castlevania game.

Again, no PS2-esque versions, please.

Using current-gen hardware to do an ultimate super badass 2D Castlevania would be so dope. The existence of Super Paper Mario gives me hope. If we're lucky, it will inspire other developers (like Konami).

If not, at least we ARE still getting 2D castlevanias thanks to the portable systems.

If you can't afford melatonin, it's fucking phenomenal.

Truth be told, if the translation is accurate, at least Iga's willing to admit he's not looking to innovate with CastleVania. That's one series that I'm happy to see continuing to stick with what it does well. Y'know?
