here's a fight vid from early in the game:

...and proof that Genji's "Giant Enemy Crab" battles NEVER happened in ancient Japan. You see, the crabs actually turned into sharks. People didn't fight these sharks, wolves did. As you can plainly see in this awesome vid.

and last, a promo vid

30 / 40 hours? Nice. I might be picking this up at launch then, I figured it was going to be really short and wanted to hold off until a pricedrop at least.

This game will be pure gold. When you hear "30-40 hours" and "gameplay on the level of a Zelda game," it sounds too good to be true, but yeah... everything's pointing to this living up to those expectations. Definitely getting this as soon as I possibly can.

I'm still unknowing if I'll be able to afford this on launch since I'm so strapped for money due to paying for a whapload of school supplies and readjusting my lifestyle >_< Thankfully I got $5 on it already, so at least I am somewhat ready for it. Also, the wait has been too damn long but will be worth it.

God dammit, I was just about to make a thread. Being 3 hours slow is no fun.

I have this pre-ordered at Amazon.com. Amazon for some reason changed their release date from the 19th to the 13th. If it actually ships early, I'll make sure to inform you guys.

Unfortunately, with Rocket Slime coming out the same day and Valkyrie Profile 2 the next week, I think I'm going to have to pass on this for a few months (as there's a ton of shit coming out in the weeks after VP2 as well). Pity, as it looks excellent.

Preordered and waiting impatiently. This is probably my last big purchase until the Wii, so I'm gonna play the heck out of it.

I like your last comment about the selling 100 copies, but will garnish critical acclaim.....cause sadly it's going to happen isn't it? :whistle2:(

I preordered this last Oct during the Gamerush preorder deal they had. It was suppose to come out in Feb when I made the preorder then it kept getting pushed back and pushed back. I'll be glad when this finally comes out. I think this will be the last game I ever preorder too.
The last two years have been torture, but it's finally almost over. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Thank you very much for telling me about this game over a year ago.

Playing the demo made me want it more. Now it's only a week away. Oh yes.

Added reviews :hot:

I like what I'm hearing in the EGM review:
Okami throws new brush uses at you all the way up to the end, quite a feat considering its length of approximately 40 hours.

:hot:

and some negative:
Epic adventures are great and all, but Okami could have used tighter pacing. The first five hours of the game are a slow mix of long-winded character speech and basic training. In fact, the entire game is packed with reams of text. That's fine in principle, but you'll find yourself forced to read the same details over and over as helpful townspeople beat clues into your brain (while you wish for an adult text-speed option).

fair enough. i would've been happy with 20 hours, but otoh, I must've put about 10 hours into playing the un-timed Japanese demo over and over
The game is fun to just hang out in, even if you aren't playing for real.

counter to that:
But just when it seems that Amaterasu (the game's wolf-goddess protagonist) and Issun (her sprite sidekick) have settled into a rut, Okami wows you with something new, a shrink-ray jaunt into the garden to fight spiders and ride on the feet of passersby or a journey into the snowy North.

:hot: :hot: :hot:

I tried the demo and it was pretty fun. The screen seemed a bit too busy at times but the paintbrush was pretty damn fun to play with.

an Okami-fied Dante would be great! It'd be funny if he talked in normal english, in his cheesy-emo-badass way, while the okami people made fun of him in jibberish.
The nod to Zelda clinched it for me. Now just to finnish up Titans Quest and Dragons Quest before I start this one.
sounds more like a kick in Zelda's butt, but I dare not speak it aloud...

okami will kick zelda's ass and send it to the sun with the astral brush!

2 9.5s from GI....my guess is .5 off for being too long.

that's sweet though.

2 9.5s from GI..

Personally, I find the reviews in GI to be among the worst. I have played the demo in the last Jampack though and did enjoy the game, but I felt the combat wasn't very fun.

Anyway, has anyone received the preorder bonus yet? GameStop screwed me out of my last one so I want to know when this one comes in.

I think you get it when you pick the game up. At least, that's what the poster says at my EB.

GI does a decent job of reviewing (though the 10 for God of War was probably one of the worst I've ever read.) But hey, everyone else is giving it 9's and 9.5's as well.

okay, I'll say it: I enjoyed the demo better than any 3-D Zelda game

The posters have been saying that for a lot of games, but the cruddy part is they don't always get enough to cover all their preorders. With a weird item like this, I wouldn't count on there being an abundant supply.

God of War was fun but wasn't a 9 or 9.5 at all. I don't like the the writing style in GI either, and I think ever since Maxim came out, people have tried way too hard to be funny in young male-orientated magazines. I actually find myself shaking my head while reading.
My local EB got the preorder bonuses in. They only got 3 or 4 of them so Id call them up if you have it preordered.
I was at GameStop yesterday, when did they receive them?

I've been reading game magazines forever and they all have always tried way too hard to be funny

Maybe it was less noticiable when I was a kid. The thing I am annoyed most by in modern reviews is that it often takes them several paragraphs before they actually review the game. They spend too much time showing off how much they know/googled about a game's history that has nothing to do with any aspect of a game review.

awesome. this game's definitely gonna average over 90% at gamerankings. wonder if it'll sell well.

me and my gf played this demo earlier, and I've got to say it's looking better than any of the 3d zelda games ive played :/ capcom has been so good to me lately.

Do you think this will end up in the Bargain bin? I'm in no rush to play games right now. As much as I'd like to support capcom for such a great game I don't want my investment to land a $20 price tag or less a month later. (ex: Viewtiful Joe, a great game also developed by Clover.)

I'm worried about it going to the bargain bin quickly as well. With school going, new games are exactly the thing I DONT need, especially ~40 hour games :p

Hmm..I'm thinking Christmas for this one, too many games coming out that I wants! Besides, I still have yet to play the other artsy-fartsy PS2 game I picked up recently, Shadow of the Colossus :p

gonna be a lot of dead flowers this tuesday...you'll all pay when it goes super platinum teh rareXor.

artsy-fartsy is Killer7. this isn't artsy at all...just has a unique art-style, which isn't unique because it's 1000s of years old :p

Oh man, I'm so hyped for this game. I'm getting paid on Thursday, then I'll have two weeks off. Maybe I'll buy a new PS2 and a copy of Okami, that would be awesome to have when I'm out and about. The only systems that work are the Xbox, Dreamcast, and N64. I need new games. :(
Got my art board today :) It's pretty awesome. Unique reserve gift.
Crap, was gonna reserve this for the art board tommorrow but if stores already got it in, that shit is long gone.

My store hadn't received them as of Saturday, so I'm thinking it's going to arrive with the game.

wanna take a pic of it?

that would be sweet if it came with a brush and a black ink pad.

There's a demo of this game in this month's OPM, I don't know if it's a re-release of the previous demo or a new one.
