How to fix gamecube disc read error

DRE on a cube?! Really?! I've had my cube since launch and never encountered any problem like that.

But yea..basically clean the lense and the game, make sure nothings getting in the way of the laser reading the disc. If thats not working, it may be damaged and not dirty.

HAHAHA! Holy fuck! You're sure gonna have a hell of a time explaining that to Nintendo CSRs when trying to get a replacement!

You gotta be kidding though right? fuckin Beer?! Its called rubbing alcohol. Coming from GameFAQs are we?

HAHAHAHA

If you actually used beer, I think you're screwed...

I wouldn't use windex. Just go to a drugstore and get some rubbing alchohol.

not cool man... im from gameFAQS

Well if you are outside of the 1 year warranty I guess it is worth a shot to try the qtip and rubbing alcohol. My gamecube died in less than a year so they replaced the disc drive.

Seriously? DRE on a GameCube? Like Courageous, I've had my GCN since it launced, and it hasn't ever given me trouble.

And please say you're kidding about the Heineken.

Doubt they will fix it free especially if he rubbed beer on it. I think it has to be a manufacturers error.

Did you do anything to your Cube that may have caused the DRE? You wouldn't happen to be getting DRE with Def Jam Vendetta are you? I remember people were getting it with the first batch of copies. Other than that, can't figure whats causing it. Probably just drunk now..let your cube sleep it off.

Go to your local grocery or drug store, get a bottle of rubbing alcohol for about a buck, clean the lens, leave it alone for a couple hours. If you're still having problems, call Nintendo's CS line.

GameFaqs sucks.

Seriously though, yes the GCN can get DRE's I hear about them all the time. Never happened to me personally though. If you really did put beer on that thing, you're shaq-fued. You might now realize why that cube was only 30 bucks. You were supposed to use rubbing alcohol. It's common sense, man.

Like I said about deej's prob, call Customer Service, its toll free. The number is on their website. They'll probably give you a couple suggestions on what to test or something, just comply with everything. If things still don't work and if you get lucky, they may offer you a way to get it fixed, for free even. Probably would have to pay shipping.

i called Customer service, they kept giving me this bs about my discs being dirty and my memory card being the problem, but i said stfu and tell me how much it will cost to repair it. its 57.50 to freakin repair it and 79.99 for another cube with controller hookups/case/and zelda

yeah, that happened to me back when the cube was 149. I got a disc read error about 2 months out of warranty. So I could pay $75 (back then) or buy a new gamecube with game and controller. I bought a platinum cube.

The costs of buying a brand new cube vs. sending it in to nintendo to be repaired are probably equal now.

My GC is getting DREs now. I will buy a new one next instead of sending it in. But I got many, many hours of enjoyment out of my cube. I've gotten 1000+ hours of Phantasy Star Online, god knows how many hours of Animal Crossing, and that is not counting all the other games I have played on it. Plus I had it modded to play japanese games when I bought it 2 years ago, so no way will nintendo even service my cube if I sent it in (they are more likely to try and slap me with a lawsuit instead LMAO). I'm pretty sure my cube is getting DREs now because it has been basically played to death. Thousands of hours of gameplay will wear and tear any console down.

R.I.P. gamecube, you will be sorely missed until I buy a replacement.

I'm pretty sure any console nowadays will get DREs after many hours of use, especially if they are played by small kids who really abuse them.

That is how my nephew does it and it works.
I had a DRE on my cube several times, and this did not work for mine. Good luck if it actually works for you. Instead, I just sold my "broken gamecube" on eBay for $40, got another cube for $100 along with the Zelda disk and another controller (I had 3, needed one more)..so it ended up not being a bad deal for me :)
I've never had a problem with my Gamecube, or any other Nintendo system for that matter.
Same here, and Ive had my cube sence launch.

Uhh no. You modded your Cube, thats why you ended up with DRE. When you mess with your shit, its bound to fuck up eventually. Like many others, I've had mine since launch, no DRE. I played PSO, AC, etc. So has my bro and at times the Cube would be used days at a time. I stand firm at that the Cube cant be "played to death". Cubes are too sturdy. People break Cubes, they dont wear out.

Too much piping for Pal Rappies will eventually wear out the lens.

Ok, I got off my lazy ass and cleaned my cube today, with qtip and alcohol, and no more DRE. So I guess the cube is still sturdy even AFTER a mod and being played 12 hours a day everyday for over 2 years.
*goes off to play more games on her cube to try and kill it again*
