Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector

CAGiversary!
Look for a good deal on the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector for the Wii. Also anyone have any experience with this? Is there any limitation to how close the Wii must be to utilize the WiFi?

Thanks

It's a great product - not aware of any limitations, but my adapter and Wii are not in the same room (probably 18ft apart0 and I haven't had any issues. I think the best deal out there is either through trade-in credit at EB/GS or use the gamer gift card at Best Buy which brings the cost down to $32.

It isn't compatible with Macs.
It isn't compatible with Macs.
I have no problems using it with my Mac. I had to find and download the Mac software for the dongle, but it works like a charm with no known lag. I'll see if I can find the link again I used and post it here.

@jlanham:
It'd be great if you could post the link to that software. Last I checked, there was no way to use it in OSX but it looks like that has changed.
Ya, I'm gonna spend a grand on a new PC just so I can use a $35 WiFi adapter on a shitty OS.
Ok, you've been drinking a little too much of the Steve Jobs kool-aid. Computers that aren't Macs can be had for much less than a grand.
Oh, I get it. Because Macs suck, right? That's hilarious! LORLROR
Before this becomes an inferno, I want to call "just kidding." Nintendo Wi-Fi drivers for OSX should be easily accessible - there's no excuse for not including them with the retail package.

Macs don't suck; they are borne of very solid human factors and ergonomics research and seem to be stylish. They are also very easy to use. They're not for me though, since you pay a premium for the features mentioned above and have a limited selection of applications that run on an even more limited set of hardware configurations. If your needs are met by what is available for Macs and you are willing to pay a premium for style, then more power to you.

It's been a few years since I had a Mac, but when I last did I used the Airport card in it as an access point (I'm pretty sure this is pretty common). If you happen to have a wireless card already in your Mac, have you tried just using that for DS internet access?

the draw isn't that they're "stylish." that's ridiculous. it's nearly a requirement if you're getting into graphic design to have a mac. the applications/functionality they have are leaps and bounds above what pc's can offer for the same type of work.

Im having horrible troubles with my Wifi USB connector software  . My Boot Camp software wont work, nd im desperate for a way for the Wifi USB connector to work on my mac, so far i have been unsuccessful with many approaches, im in need of help and will take any advice you can give me, :bomb: im terribly frustrated :bomb:

The Wifi USB connector will NOT work with my computer. It seems a lot of people with AMD processors have trouble with the darn thing. I have to use my Intel based laptop from work to make it go.

Since then I've gotten a Wii and a wireless router. A wireless router is a much better investment. I should ebay the worthless Wifi USB connector.

This thing actually made me play my DS online less. In my room, I can't pick up a signal on my DS like my Wii can. I am running a bridge from my laptop to my 360, and the dongle can't operate if I am running said bridge. Its just a PITA to have to remove or enable the bridge everytime depending on what I feel like playing.

I just posted on the other thread :
The USB dongle is junk. If you can't or don't want to reconfigure your wireless network, buy a Wireless-G Wi-Fi Gamers Access Point by Buffalo Tech:
http://www.buffalo-technology.com/pr...-access-point/

They have them at Circuit City in the $40-50 range -- most people will recommend just getting a new router, which would be cheaper. If u are looking for ease of configuration though, it does not get any easier than these devices. With AOSS (AirStation One-Touch Secure System), all you have to do is plug into into your network, wired(!) or wireless, press a button on top at the same time you select AOSS networking on your DS, and you are done.

Easy as pie. It does not mess with your router settings, but rather sets up an AOSS tunnel thru your network. Security is simple. It will work with your Wii and your PS3 too.

you don't download it... it's integrated into 10.5. if you have a version before 10.5, you can't use bootcamp.

Sorry, I have not looked at this thread in a while.

The Buffalo Gaming device was recently clearanced at CC in the $20 range, so u might still score it there.

As for the USB dongle, I never followed down that path any further as they just seemed like too much work. I did recently score a used Airport Extreme with wireless-G, but I have not tried to configure my DS with it yet -- I will give it a shot sometime this week, and report back.
