#12019573 2014 Yardsale thread

Somehow I got beat by resellers at EVERY sale this weekend for the first and so far only time this entire summer. I got to the first sale 35 minutes early just to see if they would be out yet and some reseller was already there buying everything. Every sale after that I heard "someone just bought all the games". Its just weird that there has been virtually zero competition all summer, now all of sudden when yard sale season is almost over the vultures are coming out. I'm kinda ready to be done with yard sales anyway, I got a friggin' TON of games that I've been looking for for years and I want to just spend a week straight playing them all till my eyes fall out. This year I got to the point where I got so many games that I don't even have time to play any of them

I didnt do so well in picking up both gameboy sp since a CAG here got a ags 101 model for $.49.

Actually it was 25 cents! You can buy third party GBA SP shell sets on ebay for pretty cheap, but I just decided to keep mine the way it is (outside is scratched up) because if you are going to be using it on the go, its probably going to get wear and tear anyway.

BTW I just want to say that I love that we can complain about a-hole resellers on here without the thread being locked or some other reseller coming on here and whining about it unlike some other forum I visit

So this just happened....

I was rained out all weekend. I check CL for yard sale ads today and nothing, just a few minutes ago (7pm) I found an ad that was posted in the wrong section so it didn't show up under Garage Sales, of course they had tons of games, N64's, a genesis, a bunch of genesis and n64 games, and a few other things. Since it was so late I decided I'll just email and see if they still have anything and I told them I would buy whatever they had. Here is the email she responded with:

$741

Everything is priced accordingly w/ a small discount:

2 nintendo 64 consoles

2 super nintendos

Sega genesis

Sega Saturn

2 sega genesis remotes

3 nintendo 64 remotes

2 sega remotes

Super Nintendo mouse

2 nintendo joy sticks

Nintendo arcade controller

14 nintendo games

1 nintendo game genie

Sega portable game system + game

2 misc controllers

13 genesis games

2 sega games

9 nintendo 64 games

LOL $741 at a fucking yard sale! She claims she "looked them up on ebay and discounted them from the lowest price" and BTW none of the games were anything good, its all commons like Sonic 2, excitebike, sports games, etc. I wrote her back with "is that what they sold for or is that what someone was asking for them? and why would anyone pay ebay prices at a yard sale? if I wanted to pay ebay prices I can stay at home and buy them on ebay. If you want ebay prices then I suggest you sell them on ebay and you can spend the time testing, cleaning, photographing, packing, and maling each and every item then pay the the 20% in fees that ebay and paypal takes out. "

I am assuming she wont respond....seriously wtf is wrong with people? I know this happens ALL THE TIME now but it never ceases to amaze me what goes through people's minds; "hey, someone was ASKING X amount on ebay, so that means I can sell at my yard sale for the same price and I will be guaranteed to get that much money for it!"  The thing I don't get is when I emailed her I had to wait for her to "add it up", so I wonder what would have happened if I went to the actual sale? Was she going to look every item she had on ebay on the spot? Theres another guy here with an NES (oh excuse me...thats an NES 001) with 3 common games for $135...but he assures me he will go as low as $105! He has been holding his "yard sale" every day of the week for the past 3 weeks and literally not ONE item has sold yet

The 3.3 Gameshark is the most valuable one, I think because it can connect to your PC

But how is that going to help with your putting?

yeah except half of them are from yard sales they had 2 weeks ago and they're too damn lazy to take the sign down so you're driving all over looking for nothing

I've about had it with people and their damn yard sale signs...floppy sign with just an address on it in the middle of a huge ass intersection, yeah sorry I don't have every street memorized, I don't know where your damn street is, a simple "yard sale" with a fu*king arrow would have worked, jesus! Oh hold on let me just stop in the middle of the busy street and type your address into my GPS! Or how about the signs that are the size of an index card with the tiniest letters possible. Good lord what goes through these people's heads? Who looks at these illegible microscopic signs and says "yeah! that will work!" ?!?! Or you follow an arrow and it just keeps going and going then the road forks into 3 other streets and they don't bother to put any more signs up. Yall gonna make me lose my DAMN mind up in here!

Okay okay everyone, lets just hold it with the "find of the year declarations" till you see this:

10401930_10154283205075511_3559329583055

$2

and to top it off, here are my scores from the week before:

FDM87pB.jpg

$5 for the entire box

w93rZTT.jpg

$3 for that whole lot

This actually isn't even my best score value-wise, last year I found a CIB Glib for Atari 2600 for $1. I had no idea what it was but it looked uncommon so I picked it up. Turns out its extremely rare and I already sold it on ebay for $300 several months ago. Still not as exciting as a friggin Mega Man X3! I've been finding tons of stuff so far this summer, its insane, I'm just too lazy to post anything on here. It still amazes me when I ask for games and people say "oh no, we don't have any video games......just some old nintendo games" and they act like they can't believe I would even want them.

A few pages ago I complained about people laughing at me for buying their old games, well now I actually saw a person list ON HIS CRAIGSLIST AD for his sale " old atari system (lol)". Its like he's laughing at you before you even buy it....I seriously don't get it, WHY is that funny? What is funny about an Atari? wtf!

Ugh what is with people laughing at me for buying THEIR stuff at THEIR sale?! I got a box of about 30 NES games for $5 and the guy laughed at me as I paid him and says "you still play these?!" in a really condescending tone, meanwhile he's the dumbass selling about $250 worth of games or $5. Then later that day i got a bunch of WWF wrestling buddies and the woman running the sale was in friggin hysterics..."OH GOD LOLOLOL I CANT BELIEVE YOU ARE BUYING THESE LOLOLOL!" Then she calls for the husband, "LOOK HONEY! LOLOL SOMEONE IS ACTUALLY PAYING FOR THESE LOLOL!"

seriously wtf?! You put something out for sale and i bought it...WHY is that funny? This shit happens every year but it seems to happen once a week now

#11184264 2013 Yard Sale Thread

Posted by crows in black on 02 November 2013 - 01:36 AM

So this is kinda ironic.... theres pretty much zero yard sales right now, maybe a couple each weekend for people desperate to get rid of stuff. I saw one that said it had an atari and some laserdiscs. It said everything MUST go because they are moving. I get there and the laser discs are all gone. Its like 1 hour before the end of the sale on the last day so I figured they would practically be giving stuff away. I ask for video game stuff and she shows me the atari. Its a 2600 4 switch, covered in dirt at mud, the worst shape I've ever seen. It had no cords or controllers and a dirty pac-man. Then she says "its $150! I saw them going for that on ebay!" At that point I just snapped and got a little pissed and said "no no no no...these DO NOT sell on ebay for $150! They sell for like $20-$30 with a few games!! Did you actually see it SELL for $150 or is that just what someone asked?!" She just ignored me and walked off and some other woman looking around was giving her a serious WTF face, so the seller says "no really! I looked on ebay! they sell for $150!" I just walked off and said "you are out of your mind" I don't know why I got so mad because I didn't really even want it, I guess its just the end of the season and I've had an assload of these "it goes for 2 million dollars on the ebay!" idiots.

So I drive home and I see another sale literally 4 houses down. Its like 3:30pm at this point, most sales never go past 12 here, its freezing out, its a miracle there is a sale even going. I walk up and the first thing I see is a fucking mint CIB copy of Glib for the 2600! The guy only wanted $2!! He also had a G1 transformers carrying case full of like 10 G1 transformers for $5! For those that don't know, Glib is extremely rare even for cart only. The last complete in box copy sold for close to $300, and mine looks like its never even been played (you can tell by the way the cart is seated in the cardboard that its never been removed from the box). I just love how I went from one sale with an atari item priced about 10 times higher than ebay value straight to a sale with an atari item priced 10 times UNDER ebay value. That seems to be the way it goes around here, the really valuable stuff you get for nothing and the cheap crap is priced at double market value!

#11157792 Yet More Craigslist Stupidity!

Posted by crows in black on 24 October 2013 - 04:40 AM

Ok guys, hold on to your hats for this one! I'll post screenshots since I am sure these will be flagged and deleted soon...

So I see an ad that says :

"SUPER RARE! Flintstones: Surprise at Dino's Peak & 3 Other NES GAMES - $225"

"I have for sale 4 Nintendo NES Games. I recently found them in a box in my garage with a Nintendo console. The games all work properly and have been tested. The reason I am asking so much is that I was doing some research online, eBay in particular and found that the "Flintstones: Surprise at Dino's Peak" sales from anywhere from $600.00 to $700.00. The reason I haven't sold it online is that I am an older lady that doesn't know much about eBay or the internet period for that matter. As my niece is writing this listing for me right now. I will take a better offer if interested, email me!"

now here are the two pictures posted along with it:

qlcvyXI.jpg

zwm3wCn.jpg

Notice anything weird? Take a closer look at the "the flintstones" logo in each picture

So I email and ask "um why do the 2 pictures have different labels?" and she responds with "oh its just the lighting" and I write back with "the lighting would make the letter on the label move around!?" and she says "listen, its tested and working, its the real deal!"

So I go ahead and post a "this is fake, don't buy this" on there to warn everyone else, and I get this email in response (I had to censor some of it)

"
does it hurt you that its fake.i mean damn you must had been interested you sure looked at the goddamn pictures good didn't you..why waste your time we ni*gers dont care if its fake.nobodys going to make that f*cking Much for a f*cking nintendo game.now piss off .craigslist Police"

Okay now if this all wasn't bad enough....this pops up on craigslist the next day:

"SUPER RARE!!! NES GAME: LITTLE SAMSON!"

"I have for sale "Little Samson" for the Nintendo Gaming System. The game works properly and has been tested. I will take a better offer if interested, email me!"

6qn2Wme.jpg

lol I don't even know what to say! She flat out just printed out a fake lable and glued it onto an NES cart!

UPDATE: I posted another "beware, fake game" post for the little samson, and not 10 minutes later did I get this email:

"wtf who cares..FLAGGED byebye .people like you have Nothing better to do.WHO cares about those fucking nintendo games..nobody is u fucking retarded fucker...FLAGGED U OFF BYEBYE idiot keep posting"

Just has the street. Says multi-family.

http://boston.craigs...4080769526.html

Here is the ad - it was placed on multiple craigslists (close to the border of the next state). Even if it is real, and the prices are good, I imagine it will be a complete mad house.

Also can't see people having all that and not selling it online. The post in the next state also showed a few more things like he-man figures, ninja turtles, etc. It is pretty much every collectible thing a person could ever want.

It's the perfect lure, but I think I'm going to have to skip and stick to the 20+ posted sales this week in my area. I don't want to waste the entire day chasing on sale.

Its not fake....its a reseller. Most likely it will above ebay prices but if I've learned one thing this year its there is no rhyme or reason to anything when it comes to yard sales. All my "rules" have turned out to be wrong these past couple of weeks; I've got great deals from what appeared to be resellers, Ive hit sales that advertised games and surprisingly not ran into a single reseller, Ive hit sales at 4pm and still found games, so I would say if you REALLY want this stuff, email them asap asking to buy the stuff now, if that doesnt work show up an hour early and be sure to be the first person out there...people who follow the "no early bird" rule are the people that dont get anything! Forget all this "Well they said no early birds and I dont want be rude" horseshit....theres way too many sharks out there and you have act like a shark yourself if you want to get any good scores these days

#11013736 2013 Yard Sale Thread

Posted by crows in black on 26 August 2013 - 03:32 PM

Frankly, though, it's almost not worth it to go to sales advertising video games anymore. Its always insane and people are playing dirty (e-mailing and asking for things to be held for them, making fake listings, showing up hours early, etc). Almost all of my finds on Saturday were at sales that didn't advertise games (to my knowledge) or even on Craigslist and I found via signs.

This is exactley what I've been saying for the past 2 years now too. People that advertise games usually want ebay prices anyway. However theres always exceptions. I beat a reseller who waited TWO HOURS outside a house this past weekend by about 5 seconds, it was awesome.

So I see an ad posted for a SNES with "tons of nes and snes games" on a Sunday at 12pm. I figure I'd check it out since there's nothing else going on anyway. The ad didn't list a house number, just a street, I decided I'll drive by the house at 10am just to scope it out and maybe they would be out early (people that start sales THAT late usually end up starting them way earlier than advertised). Now I've told a story before about this reseller who waited on the porch of a house a 6AM for a sale that started at 8AM just to get 3 NES sports games....well guess who is slowly driving up and down the street at 10am? You guessed it! So I said to myself, screw this, I'll just drive around and look for some other sales and come back around 11:45 and maybe I'll get lucky. So about 11;40 I come back, he is sitting in his car at one end of the street....I'm sitting at the other end. Suddenly a woman comes out and puts a sign in the yard (the house is like right in the middle of our two cars) ....I thought now "oh Fuck it, this a-hole is going to get it again anyway, its not worth the hassle" thenI suddenly had a change of heart and thought "no! screw this guy, I am getting these damn games!" so I jump out of my car and ran as fast as I could to the yard. Lucky for me the reseller is in his 50s at least and looks like he weighs in at about 350lbs so he wasn't really going to beat me. Then he starts yelling at her from across the street "hey! hey! do you have any..."  and before he can get a sentence out, I am already in the yard and I said "hey I'm buying all the video games you have!"

The lady says to me "oh yeah you are the guy that emailed me right?" So apparently some other reseller already emailed her the day before and told her some story about how his 5 year old "collects old nintendo games" .....uhhh sure she does. She even said "yeah I kinda laughed at your email, I'm surprised someone so young would be interested in old games " So basically she thinks I am the one who emailed her and I end up buying the most mint SNES system I've ever seen and a bag of about 20 N64 games for $30. The best part, the reseller finally waddled his way up the drive way and watched me buy all the stuff that he waited 2 HOURS for right from under him. He just pretended to look around the sale and then walked off like nothing happened. I was glad to finally stick it to the guy who is responsible for all the "oh yeah we just sold our games to some guy as soon as we started the sale" that I have to hear every weekend

Posted by crows in black on 30 July 2013 - 03:06 AM

There was no agreement in place that any games were mine, so I didn't sweat it too much. I'll just be more careful next time - dude had reseller writter all over him.

ie: a guy who was probably 40 years old when the NES came out and has never played a video game in his life...most likely wearing overalls and has a huge beer belly
