Bates Motel Giveaway @ Nerdophiles

18 March 2014 - 03:24 AM

So a few weeks ago someone from the A&E online store reached out to my blog and asked if we'd be interested in running a giveaway. Obviously, we agreed immediately. They were super nice people and super helpful. They sent us out a 'Bates Motel Room Service Bundle' to giveaway on our blog for free. I figured there are probably some Bates Motel fans here so I thought I would share the link.

Entere here: http://wp.me/p2DGAo-3ai

Included is the tray, two whiskey glasses, and an ice bucket (not pictured.) The Hennessy is not included. The giveaway runs until 12:00 AM March 25th.

Nerdophiles Holiday Giveaways

04 December 2013 - 10:33 AM

Hey, so, my blog is running a series of week-long raffles for the holidays. The giveaway page is a bit 'vague' to keep up the mystery as to what's going to be given away but I'll give you guys a heads up. We've got a blu ray copy of Hunger Games, Blu Ray/DVD combo of Pacific Rim, Halalo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and a copy of Pokemon Y to give away that you guys might be interested in. We've also got a bunch of posters from SDCC, a Thor 2 Funko Loki Bobble Head, a Catching Fire mockingjay pin, and a few other things.

Links to the Rafflecopters for each day are on the giveaway page.

How Do I Help My Sister Get Into Gaming for the First Time

11 October 2013 - 01:53 AM

So, my little sister has decided that she finally wants to start gaming. This is a big moment for me because I've tried to get my sisters into gaming for a while now. They've got my old Wii at home and they played around with that a fair amount but they never had anything for it beyond the latest Just Dance and a few Mario games. And both of my sisters grew up with a GBA SP and DS - though they mostly just played the Sims and Nintendogs. The oldest of the two actually wants to get a more dedicated, traditional gaming console now and play more serious games. For whatever reason she desperately wants to play GTAV. She's not going to put a lot of money into it because she's not quite sure she's going to actually like it. She's a nineteen year old college sophomore, sorority girl, former cheerleader, and pretty much a lifelong pseudo-geek. I've gotten her to accept some of her nerdier qualities in other ways but gaming is something new.

I've recommended she just get a basic used console and probably just from GameStop. The first round of 360s (which is the same type I have) are $99, the remodeled ones are like $120, and a PS3 slim is $150. She can check Craigslist, too, but she lives in a small college town so pickings will be, well, slim. She can't go out on Black Friday because she's going to be visiting family friends and I won't be going out for health reasons so that's probably not an option. What matters, though, is that she's getting one.

But I'm honestly at a loss as to what to recommend she actually get as a console or for games.

I have both consoles and I hoard games like the best of us CAGs. I'd send her any and all of the games I have to play through but I don't want to overwhelm her or be too overbearing. So I was wondering whether you guys would recommend she get a 360 or a PS3 and what like ten games she just absolutely has to play that will help her figure out what kind of games she likes and what kind of gamer she's going to be - if she turns out to be a gamer at all.

Holiday Bundle Announcements

26 September 2013 - 02:41 AM

All right, so, I've recently been going through some health issues and in my growing sadness I've decided that I really want to pick up a Nintendo console. I love my PS3 and my 360 and I take my PS Vita with me to the doctors' offices a lot but I don't know. I just don't feel like dedicating a lot of time to anything. I just want to play silly Mario Games and Mario Kart and such. So I'm looking to either pick up a 3DS XL or a Wii U at some point. But when I started looking around I realized that It's almost October. Holiday bundle announcements have to be getting made sooner than later, right?

So my question for you CAGs, when should we start seeing companies announcing their holiday bundles for systems? Obviously we're not going to see anything for the PS4 or Xbox One considering they launch right before Black Friday but what about the 3DS, 3DS XL, Wii U, PS Vita, and maybe the last round of PS3/360 bundles?

When does that usually happen in the year? I haven't bought a new console since Black Friday 2009 so I'm way out of practice here. Actually, that's a lie, I bought the Assassin's Creed PS Vita. But you get what I'm saying. I need your guidance and I see your wisdom.

The Guild: The Official Companion Giveaway

21 September 2013 - 08:00 PM

Nerdophiles - a blog I run with a friend - is giving away a review copy we got of The Guild: The Official Companion. I'll be entirely honest and say that I don't really know much about the series since I've seen maybe two or three of the little webisodes way back in the day. But I figured if there were any fans on here I'd post up the give away link.

All you have to do is comment on the review Therese posted with what you liked most about the Guild andyou're entered. Just make sure you use a valid email when you comment so we can actually contact you if you win!

The giveaway ends October 20th. I don't know how many people will actually wind up entering so your odds are probably pretty good!
