CAG Ads and Giveaways - The CheapyD Method
Those of you who are paying attention (and not running ad blocking software) may have noticed a lot of GameStop ads running recently. If you've REALLY been paying attention, you've noticed that these ad campaigns are almost always accompanied by a giveaway. For example, last month CAG gave away 10 x $200 gift cards to coincide with GameStop's Game Days campaign.
At its core, CAG is a community website and it's no secret that the community is providing almost all of the content here. That is part of the reason why, when I am able to land an advertising deal, I try to return some of the haul back to the community in the form of contests and giveaways. The other reason I do this is that I think the concept appeals to potential advertisers and may entice them to accept my proposals. After all, I organize and run the contests and pay the prizes out of my own pocket. What's not to like?
Why am I telling you all this? I struck a deal with GameStop and there will be GameStop ads running exclusively in CAG's top ad slots over the next several months. They will be of the same, non-intrusive variety that have always appeared here. No new ad slots are being created nor is anything happening that should be cause for complaint. If you've been here for any length of time, you know I'm very careful about this stuff.
I just wanted to give you the heads up as you are likely to notice the ads and might wonder what is going on. Another minor heads up; we are giving away over $10,000 in GameStop gift cards.
