I Forgot to Tell You That I Took the Banner Ads Off CAG When we made the transition to the new site, I decided to forgo the many different banner ads we used and go with a single 970x90 banner ad (via Google Adsense) on every page.

One of the unintended side effects (besides the 970x90 banner earning WAY less) was it became very easy to see exactly what percentage of ads were being blocked by CAG users. Much like other sites with a computer savvy readership, 50% of CAG users are blocking banner ads.

If half of you are blocking ads, I guess you really don't like them. Since they weren't performing well in the new size anyway, we will be banner ad free for the immediate future. Perhaps in the right situation (someone offers a lot of money), they will return, but for now, they are gone. As always, we appreciate your support via your purchases from our affiliate links.

Yay!

Try to buy stuff through CAG links whenever possible. Thanks for the difficult but well-reasoned decision, Cheapy. Ads are simply not a viable way to run a business on the internet. Numbers don't lie.

This is why CAG is the best.

I have no problem with non intrusive ads like banners and images.  I have AdBlock Plus but disable it for CAG and a few other sites because it literally took about 5 seconds to install, not because I hate all ads.  The ads I hate are the ones that pop into the middle of your screen and make you watch a stupid short vid or click something to get rid of them.

Anyways, I have no problem with an ad free CAG, but if you bring back a few non-intrusive banners and images I wouldn't mind that either.

For all of the deals we pool together at this one site, I really don't mind the ads.  I think it's fair if anything to help support the site and its owner.

It is pretty hard to be an Internet Space Pimp without some income.  A few banner adds that don't make noise or require me to interact are a-ok in my book.  CAG 3.0 is looking nice.  I'm excited to have lots of useful features for my collections in the near future.

I guess what I'm saying is, the affiliate income is enough to support myself and the site.  That being said, if a a great offer comes along, I'll consider it, but I wouldn't expect to see Google Ads back again unless the payout in the larger ad sizes improves greatly.  I'd rather forfeit the current (low) banner ad dollars for a better looking site and higher user satisfaction.  Who knows, maybe the site could be more successful without ads.

Where can we find the affiliate list on the new site? I usually click the links in the threads for specific products, but I order a lot of shit from Amazon, and if you get a cut of all of that just because I came through CAG, I'm all for that.

Being straightforward and treating your users / "customers" with respect?

No wonder they didn't want "your kind" in business school  ;)

... just another reason why CAG is great ...

Who knows, maybe the site could be more successful without ads.

I certainly hope so and it can show other sites with a loyal, happy userbase that they can be more successful with this mentality as well.

If you click through pretty much any link from CAG, CAG will get credit for the sale.  This is true even if the link doesn't take you directly to the product, or if you come back later and buy.  Thanks for your support!
