Us vs. Them, Whomever THEY Are.....

Posted by Syranth, 19 February 2010 · 221 views

It's funny when it comes to the Us vs. Them debate:

Xbox 360 vs. PS3
American Car vs. Foreign Car
Chocolate vs. Peanut Butter
Rabbit Season vs. Duck Season

Capcom announced that they had to cut considerable content from Lost Planet 2 due to disk space on the Xbox 360. See an article about it here. Square Enix said the same thing about Final Fantasy XIII. I find this funny because content get's cut all the time from games and you never hear about it, and not due to space concerns. If you really do the math, and these companies added the content in, these games wouldn't be NEAR launching. Sometimes they can't hide it well (I'm looking at you Fable 1.) I think it's a cop-out. Many many successful games are on more than one disk. I'm not sure I've seen an American company say these things about Xbox 360 games. Throw me a link if you have (maybe the game Rage has said something?) Is it nationalism to just outright say it was an American companies product at fault.

Anyway, it makes me think that nationalism drives a lot of this type of talk. It's good for the Japanese market to talk trash about an American product. Hell, we do the same thing in America. I have heard so much crap about Toyota cars and their manufacturing issue with some of their gas pedals. Even our government starts talking about starting a HUGE investigation into Toyota. Are you telling me it's not an agenda to discredit foreign auto imports? Heaven knows Washington has done a lot to pump money into a dying auto industry that couldn't embrace fuel efficient cars (I'm looking at you GM.)

Anyway, this is a very random rant and thanks for reading. Go ahead and flame away.

I SAID IT WAS DUCK SEASON!

I have to agree with the point you made. The government is totally wanting to start that investigation, just to discredit Toyota, not saying that they don't deserve it. They also have a lot of money, and jobs and what-have-you, in the American auto industry, so its understandable, but still deplorable.

Again though, I said it was Duck season....
i never thought about it like that... good point
If Capcom didn't have exclusive content on the 360 game, I'd be more likely to believe the space issue.
ELMER SEASON!

re the Toyota thing, it's all a croc as many Toyota models are assembled here in the US and many Chevy parts are manufactured in Canada and Mexico. The jingoism is all a load of horseshit. (Full disclosure, I own both a Chevy and a Toyota and I worked for a GM subsidiary on a line making parts for Toyota).

re the disks: There was never a problem before about putting things on multi-discs, I dont see what the big deal is now. It's just a silly thing to argue about by people who want to validate their chosen purchases.

And for a developer like Capcom to say this, I wonder what the hell they were going to put into LP2 that was causing space issues. Assassin's Creed II was a crazy detailed game with tons of content, didnt have a problem fitting on one disc. Are they inefficient at coding?
Its cheaper to cut content than it is to produce it and put it on a second disc. Plus, if it was that important to them they'd find a way to get it done. If a future xbox would have a blu ray drive, then what? they'd still find an excuse to cut content... so I'm not buying it.
