Tales From The Thrift #001 - April 2011: So Much Fun And It's Only A Dollar!

Posted by BlueSwim, 30 April 2011 · 226 views

Would you believe that there are people who don't go to thrift stores? It's true! Seriously, there are some people who don't go to places like Goodwill, Salvation Army, pawn shops, and their local second-hand stores. They miss out on great deals you just can't get from the big-box chains. I'm hoping this blog will change that. Instead of doing my traditional pick-ups post, this blog will highlight my thrift/second-hand store finds from about the last month and a half or so. Everything is from various second-hand stores unless noted.

Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey(PS1) - $2: Goodwill find w/ O:AE, RRT4, MW2, HL.
Oddworld: Abe Exodus(PS1) - $2: Goodwill.
Syphon Filter 3 - Missing Manual(PS1) - $3

Ridge Racer Type 4(PS1) - $3: Goodwill. When I saw this, my eyes lit up. I remember playing the demo for this game well over ten years ago. This was the first time I've come across it in almost a decade. No way I wasn't getting it.
Rival Schools(PS1) - $45: MUCH more than I wanted to pay, but it was complete and I doubted I'd find a better deal on it.
Parappa The Rapper w/cover art, but missing manual(PS1) - $2:
Pawn shop. KICK! PUNCH! IT'S ALL IN THE MIND!
Mechwarrior 2(PS1) - $3:
Goodwill.

WWF Royal Rumble(SNES) - $0.95
King Of The Monsters(SNES) - $5
Power Rangers(SNES) - $6:
Not quite as good as I remembered it being. The Pink Ranger is just the Red Ranger sprite painted pink. Does Kimberly have a secret?:shock:
ESPN Sunday Night NFL(SNES) - $0.25
WWF Raw(SNES) - $0.95
Where In Time Is Carmen Sandiego(SNES) - $4:
It's a contradictory game. They give you a time limit in a game where you go back in time to catch a thief. Why give you a 37 hour time limit WHEN YOU HAVE A FUCKING TIME MACHINE!?
Stargate - Complete(Gen) - $1.45:
Shit.
Ranger X(Gen) - $1.45:
I judged a book(or, in this case, game) by its cover and it turned out better than I was expecting.
Half-Life - Missing Manual(PS2) - $2
World Series Baseball '95(Gen) - $0.55
: I've had the Game Gear version for about 15 years and love it to pieces.

Twister DVD - $3:
"My favorite Helen Hunt movie, TWISTER!"
Jerry Seinfeld Live On Broadway: I'm Telling You For The Last Time DVD - $2
WWE Wrestlemania XXVI 3 DVD Set - $6:
Pawn shop. HBK/Taker II was great, but I think their first WM match had better pacing. Surprisingly, my favorite match on the show was Cena/Batista. It had a solid back-and-forth action, the pacing was great and it "told a story"(is this really a John Cena match?).
Ring Of Honor Wrestling DVD's - $2 Each
Crackdown(360) - $1:
It's scratched to the point where I had to mute the audio to get it to play beyond a certain point. Once I got through that one point, it plays just fine.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare(360) - $1
: Haven't spent too much time with it, but it's not nearly as scratched as Crackdown. Should be fine.

I used to find a lot of cool stuff at my goodwill store, but sadly they got rid most of there games.Pretty good stuff you got though.
Oh wow! Epic! Nice find.
Very nice! I don't really go to Goodwiil that often, it is too far away and kind of scary. I never found anything the few times I did stop in, so I figured it isn't really worth it. I would love to find some deals like this. I really wish I had been into older games before I moved because we had quite a few thrift stores and things where I donated stuff so I could have looked in there easily.

Enjoy all your awesome games!
I Kinda felt as I kept scrolling down it went from good to kinda weird to good to kinda weird and it ending with me seeing Dennis Rodman's book from the 90's. Overall nice finds though.
I like Puffy Amiyumi, nice find on the US greatest hits =3
Puffy Amiyumi - Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi - $3.45: I've wanted a Puffy Amiyumi album for years. It delivered.

WIN!
@themaster20000 & technom22: Thank you very much!:D

---

@1NintendoFan: Thank you!:D

You might want to check your phone book for pawn shops. There could be one tucked away somewhere you don't know about. I found Parappa at a pawn shop I had never been to before.

---

@bardockkun:
:lol: Everyone should be glad the Japanese book was there or things would have gotten a LOTweirder.

---

@200STM:
Thank you! I love how bubbly and up-beat their music is.

---

@basilofbkrst:
No doubt about it. Great album. Their "honeycreeper" album is on Amazon's MP3 Marketplace for $10, BTW.8-)
Oh man, I didn't know there was a Half Life for the PS2! I totally need to get that...
If I remember the cover of Dennis Rodman's book it's him on a Harley with a basketball covering his ding dongs. The back cover is ass shot of him holding up two basketball's if I recall. Yeah, this was years ago that I remember the news having nothing else to talk about, but that and this was way back in the 90's. Something's I can't unsee so that Japanese book made no difference.
Awesome finds! Especially on all those wrestling DVDs. I also remember Ranger X being one of my favorite Genesis games when I was a kid. I got it based on the picture on the case also!
I freaking LOVE Ranger X. One of my favorite Genesis games!
One of my favorite things about Ranger X is controlling the vehicle. It's almost surprising to see something like it in a 16-bit era game. It makes the game feel like a "big deal", for some reason.
