I have heard alot about the fact that PC gaming is in big trouble and I would agree with this statement. I have heard alot about why this has been happening. Some people have said that it is because consels get the games first and pc gaming is left behind to have their products come out last. Another reason is a lack of original gaming content that is different from the consels.
A reason that I think is important to mention is the fact that so many people are able to steal these games. An example that I like to use is Crysis in which there were so few copies sold but it was stolent like crazy on bittorrent. It is not the fact that PC gaming is dying becuase of what was stated before, becuase alot of people like to play their games on the computer and prefer a mouse to a controller. It seems to me that the people who prefer PC gaming are also hurting PC gaming by choosing to steal the games. Then I hear that compaines are cracking down on stealing by enacting harsh theft protection techniques into their games. This hurts PC gaming even more because the people who prefer PC gaming may now go to consel games where this type of theft protection does not exist and it also pushes away people that may have considered giving PC gaming a try. At least PC gamign has a platform like steam, which I know little about, that has ways of deterring theft.
If anyone is to blame for the decline of PC gaming it is the PC gamers that are stealing the products. Who is going to develop a product for the PC when they aren't going to sell very many copies. You cannot blame a company for releasing a game to consels first where stealing does not happen so that they at least make some money before releasing their products to the PC where they may get stolen. If I were crytek, I would release crysis on the PS3 and XBOX 360 so that I could recoup some of the losses that occured from releasing for the PC only. PC gamers that are stealing software need to look in the mirror and see that they are hurting the platform that they love.
