A reason why PC gaming continues to suffer.

I have heard alot about the fact that PC gaming is in big trouble and I would agree with this statement. I have heard alot about why this has been happening. Some people have said that it is because consels get the games first and pc gaming is left behind to have their products come out last. Another reason is a lack of original gaming content that is different from the consels.

A reason that I think is important to mention is the fact that so many people are able to steal these games. An example that I like to use is Crysis in which there were so few copies sold but it was stolent like crazy on bittorrent. It is not the fact that PC gaming is dying becuase of what was stated before, becuase alot of people like to play their games on the computer and prefer a mouse to a controller. It seems to me that the people who prefer PC gaming are also hurting PC gaming by choosing to steal the games. Then I hear that compaines are cracking down on stealing by enacting harsh theft protection techniques into their games. This hurts PC gaming even more because the people who prefer PC gaming may now go to consel games where this type of theft protection does not exist and it also pushes away people that may have considered giving PC gaming a try. At least PC gamign has a platform like steam, which I know little about, that has ways of deterring theft.

If anyone is to blame for the decline of PC gaming it is the PC gamers that are stealing the products. Who is going to develop a product for the PC when they aren't going to sell very many copies. You cannot blame a company for releasing a game to consels first where stealing does not happen so that they at least make some money before releasing their products to the PC where they may get stolen. If I were crytek, I would release crysis on the PS3 and XBOX 360 so that I could recoup some of the losses that occured from releasing for the PC only. PC gamers that are stealing software need to look in the mirror and see that they are hurting the platform that they love.

As CAG Foreplay's PC guy, I feel that there's a difference between PC gaming and PC game sales. PC gaming hasn't declined and probably will never decline. What has effectively happened is the displacement of where the PC gamer's attention has gone. While PC games will hardly crack the top 5 of sales, there are over 10 million people playing WoW and paying $15 MONTHLY. Sales of Sims 2 and its multitude of expansions are massive. Bejeweled and Peggle are multi-multi platinum sellers.

The reason publishers no longer consider the platform viable is because of these juggernauts. Sales have gone down for new IP's because PC gamers don't roam from game-to-game like console gamers. The problem is in the habitat - not the thieves.

PC's have the absolute largest selection of games as well as the best selection of independent games. Because any dork can make a PC game in their basement and because WoW brings in $150million in revenue monthly, PC gaming will never die.
You are wrong and I only read a few sentences.
I would like to know why you think that I am wrong. I enjoyed treehouse gamers disussion about my post but you willardhaven don't give any feedback as to why I am wrong. I still think that theivery plays a large role in the sales of games. People can still steal WOW and pay the 15 dollars a month to play the game. I do agree that there are some markets for games such as the sims where there is not a lot of room to enter the market and become successful but I do think that in the FPS area there is alot of room to be successful and it is easier for people to steal the games than pay for them. This is similar to the music industry where you do have lots of people buying music but many more stealing it.
I really don't see why piracy is the main reason why PC games are pale in comparison to "console" games. There is piracy for console and handheld games as well, though their sales haven't taken a huge hit. I'd like to see some cold hard facts and numbers before you even say piracy is the main reason PC games are taking a dive.
Its not the main reason but one of the reasons
You look like you don't play PC games by using phrases like "I hear" or "It seems" and you are definately looking at PC gaming from the outside.
