iPhone Copy & Paste! and other iPhone OS 3.0 Liveblog Thoughts
• Cut, Copy, & Paste Text and Photos
o Pretty cool, double tap to bring up new zoom box shake to undo a paste. Cant wait to play with it.
o OMG THANK THE LORD! The most advanced handheld device can do something my old razr could do!! I wont be embarrassed to tell people with 3 year old phones that they can do something my phone cant. So yeah, I’m totally stoaked, and I’ve really missed it.
• Forward/Delete SMS’s
o 4 all ur chain txt msg pleasure.
• Stereo Bluetooth
o Finally I can use the Motorola headset I got for my old windows smart phone before I had the first iPhone… Or can I? They did not say A2DP in any of the live blogs but in the overview after on some sites (gizmodo) they do say A2DP. But with the requirement of the apple chip in the new shuffle ear buds I’ve got a funny feeling I’ll have to buy some new white Apple brand Bluetooth headphones. Once the video is up later I’ll listen for myself and let you know.
• Push notification
o For all your non battery sucking IM type stuff. Mobile AIM anyone? ESPN score updates? New Facebook poke notification? IDK, but I cant wait to see what all the developers come up with.
• Landscape keyboard everywhere
o Not really a huge deal for me, but I do know several people that love it so I’m excited to them. And hey, i'll try it some more now.
• Voice Memo
o I’m pretty excited on this one actually, I have a handheld digital recorder I use for notes and recording classes but this will be much better. They will allow you to trim it right on the phone too. Very cool.
• Peer to peer connectivity
o Once again, I’ve seen a couple differences on the liveblogs here. But it looks like you can send contacts via Bluetooth and make other connections for head to head gaming for example (!!!). But what exactly you will have access to on the phone to send isn’t clear. I’m sure you wont be able to send a DRM song to your friends over Bluetooth or ringtones you bought from the Apple App store. But what else? Pictures? There is a “Share” button on the pictures page on one of the slides! Cant wait to play with this too.
• Turn by Turn GPS/Maps
o It sort of looks like its built into the google maps app, but not quite sure. Either way they are allowing Devs into the google apps API to use in their own aps. Hello TomTom app!
• Sync Notes with iTunes
o Got to keep my notes backed up ‘yo. Also its nice to use a full keyboard to type out a list or notes if I’m at my computer then sync it to my phone. Also should have been there day one…
As for what they didn’t cover, there really is not a lot. But the few that are, really are pretty damn glaring. Such as:
-STILL no video recording! (really apple, WTF?)
-The camera app is really, REALLY crappy
-The UI/Background should be customizable
-The damn safari page reloads every time i look at a web page
-Still no FLASH PLAYER support
-True Multitasking (THE Big one on here IMHO)
-Wireless iTunes sync too if I’m making a wish list (and hey look I am)
Anyway, it was almost 2 hours long and it was all great. But these are some of the big ones for me. I cant wait to see how the game developers start using these new features like the peer to peer, voice chat, and the new peripheral controls. What do you all think? Think we will get bluetooth gamepad for the iphone? Voip apps for COD4 with tie in to xbox live? So many ways this could go!!
But you tell me, did I miss something or make a mistake? What were the big things to you?
