Vacation all I ever wanted.....

Posted by lilytrabbit, 17 May 2010 · 227 views

Fellow CAG's I am official unemployed for the next three months. Graduation was this past Thursday and I passed on teaching Summer classes. While I had been planing a trip to Germany my budget isn't where I really want it to be for that trip. I have about $2,500 saved up and the flight to Germany is $1,200 round-trip. While the only major cost of the visit was the flight I wanted more to have for miscellaneous expenses. I also have a week long training trip mid-July in Indiana, so my travel dates have have to be changed as well.

So while I still want a vacation I have no clue where to go. They only places I've really ever been are in Texas and a few trips to Louisiana, New Orleans, Lake Charles areas. Most of the places I really want to visit are in Europe and if anyone has been recently and think the trip is do able speak up, but also feel free to throw out suggestions on places in the states to visit.

Had to get away...

Congrats on graduating
Canada. It's a polite version of America.
Sounds like he is a teacher, not a student, and so with graduation he's done teaching and didn't choose to teach summer classes, and thus has a vacation to enjoy.
Have you ever thought about taking a cruise to Europe? You don't get to spend as much time in each place, but it is a good way to see a lot of Europe at once. If you know when/where to book and things you can get a really good deal and I would think could get a decent vacation with your budget. You can also get some good deals on flights through the cruise line, or you may be able to find a cruise that leaves the US and then you only have the return flight... Just some ideas, not even sure if it is of interest, but I think it might be the way to spread your money the most.

Other than that, if Europe is really where you want to go and you have a lot of plans for it, then maybe wait another year to go. Put the money you have saved away and save up for another year so that you can take your dream vacation and not have to worry about the cost of anything. Maybe this year, go somewhere that is closer to home, but also a little different from what you have already done... Maybe you can find something that interests you near Indiana that you could drive to and spend some time there when you are there in July.

I would say you could do Europe with the budget you have, but if you really want to experience everything and have the best trip possible, I think you may be happier if you save up a little longer.
@cdiet

Aha... gotcha.
Road Trip. Seriously, drive west, up eastern california, and into oregon to washington...it's beautiful, and a shitload of fun.

One of my best friends lives in Oregon and I've driven to see him 3 times and it's just about my favorite thing to do. Hike Waterfalls, go swim in the pacific. You don't have to leave the country or spend a crapload of money to have a great vacation.
@klim, yeah I'm the Professor

@fatherofcaitlyn I had thought about Canada, but I don't really know anyone up there. The Germany trip while I would bum around alone from time to time, I was crashing w/ a buddy of mine so I would have someone to hang out w/ periodically.

@1NintendoFan I had never thought about a cruise. I'll definitely check into that. I was considering saving my money and going in December, next Summer I have a trip to Hawaii set up to visit a friend, who is moving back next month.

@hohez Road trips are fun w/ company. I've done too much driving on my own to enjoy solo road trips now.
do a cruise :)
canada is dirty, I don't care what anyone says! I still wanna go to vancouver and montreal. But that's it and it's been dirty everywhere else I have been. Come to detroit, it's cheap,dirty, skandalous and there's alot to do

On the real, I would go to cedar point and have some fun with a weekend pass. Hit cedar point day 1, soak city day 2 and do whatever you want day three.

La is awesome or anywhere else in cali, oregon, chicago is a great place to visit. So much to do and see. I can give you details of things to look for and go to and see if you go. Same fo detroit.

My number 1 place to go is amsterdamn for so many reasons other than the fact I wanna see europe. Do you have any friends in the airline business? You could get a buddy pass off them for standby and it would cost you like 300 to go to amsterdamn. fyi

Good luck and happy vacationing!
