Best Buy Horror Stories

Best buy customer service price matching
Here is just a short video where I look at 3 horrible experiences that I've had with Best Buy in the not so distant past. I'm to the point where I'm hesitant to ever shop with them again--regardless of how good a deal may be.

Have you guys had any shitty experiences with them?

I love Best Buy anymore.  I've had my issues with them but between GCU renewal 2 years for $30, freebie Elite Plus membership til February, $180 laptop on Black Friday, great deals on video games (them and Gamefly are the only two places I ever seem to buy from anymore, with a random Amazon price match thrown in), and decent trade in values, I'm now a regular face around my local Best Buy store.

Just recently I bought Batman from them for $29.99 on the Monday early BF deals.  It should have been $24 because of GCU so I posted on their forum and called, but the CSR on the phone said that because it was an early BF deal that it wasn't eligible for the GCU discount.  Kind of sucked, but I was still happy with my $30 purchase.  The next week I get an email saying they saw my post and will be crediting me the $6.  Woohoo.  Next day I check my gift card I used to purchase, and they credited me the entire $30 purchase!   Not sure why (either customer satisfaction or an error) but things like that will keep me buying from Best Buy for the next while.

Wow, good times.  Sounds like you live near the worst Best Buy ever.  There are three Best Buy stores within a half-hour drive of me, and I have had wildly different experiences at the different stores as far as employee competence and helpfulness goes.  I don't have any nightmare stories comparable to what you went through, but I can relate to the frustration of being on a tight schedule and them making you wait in your third story.  The last two times I've brought a stack of games to trade in when they've had their 100% bonus credit promotion they do from time to time I've gotten stuck with someone who seems to be moving in slow motion.  They have a scanner, so it would seem like they just need to scan the game and the trade-in amount should pop up on their screen, and that's it.  For some reason, every single game in my pile seemed to present some challenge for them, though, where they need to scan it 3 times, type something into the register, scan it again, ask another nearby employee to check on the price, then scan it again.  All while moving like a giant tortoise swimming through jello.  Both times I figured I'd be in and out in 10 minutes, tops, even with a fairly large pile of games.  Both times, I had places to be after stopping at Best Buy.  I'd say it probably took closer to 45 minutes each time.  Not the end of the world or anything, but a little frustrating.  I guess the lesson is, never go into Best Buy when you're in a hurry.

I hate the Best Buy (in-store) they have bad prices, worse Customer Service, and horrible stocking/shelving/arrangment issues. I usually stick to online-only. Not recently since they took away free shipping, so I can skip them all together. Also, $60/year (or more?) for Gamer Unlocked/magazine/whatever is such a rip off.

Let me clarify "bad prices". I mean anything from a $20-30 hdmi cable to a $20-$100 over priced HDD/portable HDD/router/etc or a $30 used game when the new game MSRP is $20.

I find your timing kind of amusing at your descision to join a MCN, Multi Channel Network. I know the recent changes shouldn't affect you personally, but since you said the Channel you joined was a gaming channel, I have to assume a lot of their other "affiliate" level partners (managed partners seem immune still) will be hammered. Forcing them to change, quit, or un-partner with the MCN.

The change I'm talking about is all the massive monotization claims coming in from game publishers, not just Nintendo now, fake claims, unsolisitated claims that the content holder did not make nor want, music claims from in-game music in background, and fucking game trailer claims used in fucking Reviews of the game. AngryJoe got hit by 62 claims, Classic Game Room got hammered and had to leave Youtube, where channgels like Rev3Games and TotalBiscuit are fine since they are a managed partner. Channels like farfromsubtle on the other hand has had to deal with this ever since Youtube partnerships begain because they never joined a MCN, and partner straight with Youtube.

It's a sad day when game reviews, previews, critiques, and impressions are hit by Content ID claims from a faulty bot for literally 10 seconds out of a 30min video, thanks Google.

Yeah, I've been keeping up with the recent happenings, and it's total BS. I feel sorry for all of the people affected by it because it's really not fair. I'm hoping that Class Game Room's website works out for them. That is a super risky move! And yeah, Best Buy is certainly an ironic name. I definitely only go there when there is a specific sale.
