What are you playing this weekend? - XBLA Backlog Destruction Edition

Posted by tylerh1701, in Xbox 360 28 February 2014 · 925 views

It's past noon, I'm gonna do the post.

My goal is to be completely done with my Xbox 360 by May of this year, so I've got some work to do on my digital backlog (I sold off most of my retail backlog except for a few games I was very interested in).

Since I started this, I've blown through a ton of games over the last couple weeks. It helps that these games are generally pretty short and that I'm not overly worried about achievements and thanks to that I've decimated my XBLA backlog. I've completed:
  • A World of Keflings
  • All Zombies Must Die (stopped halfway through cuz I was stuck)
  • Assault Heroes 2
  • Axel & Pixel
  • BurgerTime World Tour
  • Crash of the Titans
  • Dragon's Lair
  • Geon
  • Golf: Tee It Up
  • Guwange
  • Ikaruga
  • Joy Ride Turbo
  • Karateka
  • Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection
  • Outrun Online Arcade
  • Quake Arena Arcade
  • R-Type Dimensions
  • Rock Band Blitz (could only play 3 songs because I can't get on Xbox Live anymore)
  • Rocket Knight
  • Rotastic
  • Space Invaders Extreme
  • The Splatters (stopped about half way through, too obnoxious)
  • Trouble Witches NEO
Not all classics, not even a whole lot of games I'd recommend to everyone. But I'm glad I played most of them, but definitely a couple regretful purchases in there. Now working on Gripshift which I'll be finishing off over the weekend and then I'll move onto something else. Definitely feels good to get so many games out of the backlog.

So what is everyone else playing?

Persona 3 FES again.  I am getting my money's worth out of this game.  Its very good.  Ive stopped playing everything else and I am just playing that.  Oh what I wouldnt give to be a teenager again to have all the time in the world to play.  Instead I just have an hour or so every couple of nights.   Damned responsibilities.

Pretty impressive trail of dead you're leaving behind from your 360 backlog.  How much is left?

I'm working on wrapping up various online trophies from ps3/vita fighting games while I have a 2nd ps3 - I thought it would be boring farming them (since I've done a lot of them legit and I'm just ready to be done) but it's turned out to be just another form of practice mode so actually kinda fun.  The ssf4 requirements for one of the bronze trophies is literally 20 ranked wins with each character which is up there with the dumbass MK and Injustice trophies - I think it'll end up being 700 ranked wins if I'm counting right.  I bet it would take me a few years to pull that off.  Cheating it has been nice though - of all the ps3 era fighting games I've played sf4 the least so it's good to put in a bit of time with each of the characters before usf4 drops.  Seriously though, what a dumb Fuck ing trophy.

Otherwise, plants vs zombies vita which I have enjoyed way more than I expected.  And hopefully sleeping.

You sure have a lot of fighting games.

I have about 43 games left in my XBLA backlog, then about 5 retail, which includes the whole Fable series, though I'm not sure I'll make it all the way through.  My cousin bought Fable Anniversary so I'll borrow that from him in the coming weeks and start there.

I am finishing The Last of Us and I am about almost finished (Lakeside Resort).  I am thinking about trying out the Aliens: Colonial Marines (PC) since it was $2.  Other than that I am doing training in IT this weekend too so I will see if I can play other games but not sure what I should play next but I am looking to play Beyond: Two Souls.

I enjoyed Beyond quite a bit, though it did start to drag near the end IMO.  Still haven't got a chance to pick up Last of Us on the cheap yet.

Working on

LoS2 - epic boss battles.

Castle Crashers - trying to unlock insane mode.

Smart As - 40/100 street smarts. (slooooooooow)

Walking Dead - ep 2 on Tuesday =)

I hope LoS is cool despite the reviews.  Though I didn't love the first one, it was WAY too linear and too long for me.

Smart As is just a grind for me as well now.  Will probably mess with the date to get the platinum after I get the street smart trophies.  I'm at 49 and more are opening this week.

Walking Dead zzzzzz

so far Total play time: 14:02:03

Playing LoS2 on Normal.

Game Completion: 52.00% out 110%.

Seems like we are alternating in DBJ's absence :D

Anywho, I planned on not playing anything because I was going to be in Denver this weekend.  This FUCKING snow derailed that so I have all weekend to do jack shit and I'm going to videogame it up!  So I will be playing any and everything :)

I'm not sure exactly what I'll be playing, but my wife and I are getting together with my best friend and my cousin (they're married) on Saturday and he's going to show me his PS4.  I'm not sure what he's got for it (or how the long the ladies will put up with us gaming instead of "visiting"- although, I don't see the difference ;) )  So yeah, Saturday will be my first time checking out the PS4.  Other than that, I finally found some time to play Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus this week, and I think I'm right at the end, so I'll hopefully wrap that up.

Got Thief on my PC so I'll be working my way through that.  I'm not really into stealth games but I am enjoying it a fair amount.  It feels like Dishonored to me just without the powers and your character is far less lethal.  Also playing Bravely Default and really enjoying it, so I'm sure I'll be playing a bunch of that.  I havent enjoyed a jrpg this much since playing Chrono Trigger on the snes as a kid so I'd definitely recommend it to anyone remotely interested.  Also think I may be getting Tomb Raider in the mail from gamefly for the X1,and even though I played through it on PC at release I'm looking forward to another playthrough on the big screen.

I finished Arkham Origins last weekend. I had hoped the story content DLC would be available by now, so I could play it and sell the game...but since the DLC isn't coming out until April, I'm stuck with it.

Probably going to give Bayonetta a try this weekend, and there's a good chance that it'll consume most of my gaming time this weekend.

I also just got Mass Effect 2 so, at some point, maybe I'll get around to that...

Bayonetta is my favorite game of this entire generation.  It controls so perfectly.

You're absolutely right, the controls really are incredible. I played through the first hour or so last night and I was blown away by how easy it is to get used to the controls, but also how in-depth the combat system is. I'm also loving the game's wild, outlandish humor.

Bayonetta is marvelous all around.

This weekend I'll wrap up Sonic Chronicles, might try to play some P4, and will probably start something new that I can get through pretty quickly (my most likely candidate right now is Cherry Tree High Comedy Club).

I need to follow suit with my PS3/Vita backlog. I mostly have JRPGs so it will be a while before I finish. I might just play causal just to get through everything. I'm still playing Bravely Default. I'm half way through the game, hopefully I'll finish it this weekend.

Final Fantasy XII

Fire Emblem DS and Soul Hackers.
