Tyler's Xbox 360: 2009 - 2014 Final Recap

Posted by tylerh1701, in Xbox 360 09 May 2014 · 920 views

Frequent readers already know the drawn out story of my Xbox 360 and getting banned from Xbox Live, but if you need a refresher on it you can read all about it here, here, and here. Well last week I finally wrapped up my time with my 360 and sold it to my brother. Soon after the ban I also got rid of my Windows Phone 7, which I was a regular game on as well. I went through my Achievement collection and reviewed exactly what I had done with my Xbox 360 and Windows Phone over the last 5 years. Here's some interesting stats as well as some of my favorite games on the systems.

+ 80,628 was my final Gamerscore and I amassed 5,101 separate Achievements
+ Completion Percentage around 48.5%
+ Played a total of 470 games, beating 295 of them
+ 64 games with 100% completion percentage

+ Beat 62 retail Xbox 360 games
+ Beat 157 XBLA games
+ Beat 62 Windows Phone 7 games
+ Beat 15 "Other" Games (Wordament on PC/iOS and Kinect Fun Lab apps)
+ Played another 128 games but wouldn't describe them as beaten
+ Played another 46 games enough to register an Achievement or two, but that's about it

+ Played 31 retail console exclusives, beating 13 of them
+ Played 135 XBLA exclusives, beating 91 of them

+ 236 games I would give a positive review
+ 25 games I would give a middling review
+ 159 games I would give a negative review
+ 50 games I didn't play enough to give a review

+ 52 games I would give "Tyler's Seal of Approval" as excellent games
+ Of those 52, 19 are console exclusives
+ Of those 52, 18 are retail games, 30 are XBLA games, and 4 are Windows Phone games

To review the spreadsheet of my entire Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7 gaming experience, check it out here.

So you're saying you haven't played or beat Bayonetta, Red Dead, or Bioshock yet? Man you've got some excellent games to look forward too.

Funny the only 2 XBLA ones you don't own are the ones that never go on sale.  (Well and Minecraft, but looks like you got that).  Banjo is obviously amazing if you have any nostalgia for the N64 and Half Minute Hero caught me off guard as to how awesome it is.

I still hate what happened to you during the banhammer spree...good to see you moving on and ending the Xbox era in your life. Between the 20 combined in your top 10s, I have about half of them still to play. For Bayonetta, Vanquish and Braid, I'll look into them after reading this. Never really had interest in them before.

If you like action games, you can't do better than Platinum Games (Bayonetta and Vanquish)

Braid is just pure puzzle platforming bliss.  The changing time manipulation mechanics between worlds work so f'ing well.

I remembered reading about your ban in the thread when it happened. Still disheartening.

As for Red Dead Redemption, I don't know how you can rate it so high. That game pretty much killed my interest in playing my XBox 360. I found it so incredibly tedious with literally the worst twist in a video game ever.

I'm tempted to play the original Borderlands again though. I kinda rushed through it (and as the Siren on top of it) so that I could play BL2.

Dood. Total respect to you Top 10 list. Bayonetta is fantastic, and to get 100% GS takes some skill for sure.

Shadow Complex. What a great game. I think that it is one of those things that if you didn't know about it within the first year of release than sadly you may have missed out on a classic. Probably the best exclusive XBLA game in my opinion. If you didn't have SOTN on that list though, I was going to take a long drive and come smack you lol

I love this post, with the exception being the reminder that you had to go through all this crap with the ban. To be honest, it kind of motivated me to back away from the 360 and embrace Sony again. I am in the process of doing a similar thing with finishing what I have on 360 and then getting rid of it. The one daunting factor in that (aside from the money spent on downloaded games) is restarting games like Fallout and Skyrim all over again. A combined total of 500 hours between Fallout 3 NV and Skyrim that I will never get back almost makes me cry. But they are all great games that I should rediscover again on a different console.

It almost feels like I am getting back together with the girl of my dreams after living with some gold digging heartless whore whom gave good head (occasionally, just enough to keep me believing it was worth it) but destroyed my will to engage in anything else. Yes, I equated MS to a uppity whore.

TLDR- Congrats on the transition, nice list, I agree 100%

daymn at that Bayonetta 100%.  I was never able to finish the game when I had it on 360, but I picked it up to try again on the ps3.  It's a lovely game.

I had no major issues with the Bayonetta 100%.  I do think I did grind some halos for one extra weapon that helped things quite a bit, but the game was so fun I think I just got really good at it.  I should go back and get the platinum on PS3.

I think I'll start it up next after I finish off the goddamn tomb raider plat (I regret digging in to that one). I remember bayonetta being just stupid fun so that'll be a nice change of pace vs collecting medical supplies and dropping them in a glowing circle a bajillion times.
