Winter 2014 Anime Thoughts

Posted by 3gsid, 31 March 2014 · 1055 views

Hello yet again everyone! Time again for another post regarding one of my favorite hobbies, anime.

This time around, it will be my own thoughts on the passing winter 2014 season. Next week I'll be doing my thoughts on the upcoming Spring season, so watch out for that!

I am going to be as vague as I possibly can be within context of describing a show. I will just give a basic summary on my thoughts, and not go into too much detail to avoid spoilers of any kind!

Top 5 Anime

1. Golden Time
2. Kuroko No Basket S2
3. Log Horizon
4. Kill la Kill
5. Diamond No Ace

Others Finished

Silver Spoon S2, Yowamushi Pedal, Nisekoi, Chunibyo S2

Plan to Watch

Nagi no Asukara (Probably would be in top 5 if watched), Noragami, Hoozuki no Reitetsu, Seitokai Yakuindomo, Tokyo Ravens

Biggest Surprise - Kill La Kill

Hear me out on this one. I'm not surprised at all on how massive a following this show got, as it is a result of the former people who made Gurren Lagann. BUT, at least at the time I write this, I never have finished Gurren Lagann, and in fact put the show on hold after watching three episodes as it didn't interest me at the time.

But after watching Kill La Kill, I may just have to sit down and watch through it, as I enjoyed KLK, despite it being of a genre I typically don't enjoy.

Be it just the pure absurdity of a premise, the overflowing action, or just the endearment of the cast of characters, I couldn't stop watching. It was a great ride from start to finish, and I am sad to see it over.

(But there is a special coming out in September of it supposedly!)

Biggest Disappointment - Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren, or Chunibyo Season 2

To start the season, Chunibyo season 2 wasn't on my radar as I had not seen the first. But after looking it up, I decided to watch the first season and thoroughly enjoyed it. Shortly after I decided to watch the second season with high expectations.

Those expectations came to let me down however, as hardly anything progressed at all in the relationship between the two main characters. This season just felt empty and lacking, without any central story or plot.

All that said, it was a very enjoyable season for me, despite most of the shows I enjoyed being carryovers from the previous season. There were some great shows, and I still have a few more I need to watch.

My only gripe would be outside the leftovers from the fall, it was a relatively weak season.

Now I ask you, what are your thoughts on the just passed Winter 2014 anime season?

It was an okay season, not as good as last years winter season but cool nevertheless. The only anime(s) i watched this past season were: Freezing  S2, Chunibyo S2, Unbreakable Machine Doll, and Super Sonico.

From those four anime(s) i watched the only one i liked a lot was Freezing S2 because of the tear jerking ending. RIP - Chiffon

Edit : I totally forgot that Blazblue: AM premiered last year too. I didn't like it that much because it moved to quick. The first game storyline was adapted in two episodes, like really !

Golden Time, Strike the Blood, and D-Frag probably has to be my favorites.  Hoping that Strike the Blood will get a Season 2 in the next few years. Bit disappointed that Golden Time didn't get the Amagami SS-like ending I was hoping for (namely Haruka's Arc). But oh well.

Others I watched was Super Sonico, Nourin, and a few others.

Of course, I didn't watch a couple of the shows everyone was raving about. But I'll get to it. I look forward to Spring 2014 anime now.
