A date for when the five day extension or the coupon code will become available has not been set. Sony says an announcement will come at a later date. The rewards come as a result of the PSN service being taken offline by Distributed Denial of Service, or DDoS, attacks that began on December 24. The outage persisted sporadically through December 29, after which Sony finally stabilized the service. Many PS4 users were required to change their console’s MTU settings due to updates on the PSN.
Sony has also extended its PlayStation Store Holiday Sale to run through January 6 because of the PSN downtime and the inability to access the PlayStation Store.
January’s free games for PlayStation Plus were recently unveiled which includes Infamous: First Light for PS4, the stand-alone prequel to IGN's best of PS4 contender Infamous: Second Son.
