"Whereas people who have been traditionally Nintendo handheld gamers," he continued, "they may buy Nintendo Switch and then for example, if a new version were to come out later, then maybe they would decide to upgrade to that."
The original DS saw hardware updates with the Nintendo DS Lite, the DSi, and the DSi XL, while 3DS revisions were also introduced, including the New 3DS and the 2DS.
Takahashi also discussed the chances of hardware changes in regard to the detachable Joy-Con controllers, suggesting that the ability to take them off the system "leaves open the possibility of something else that might get attached," however he did not elaborate any further.Meanwhile, Koizumi reinforced that Nintendo Switch is a hybrid console. He sees the system as merging together the company's previously separated portable and home segments.
"...Whereas previously, you would play certain things on your home system and certain things on your handheld. Our hope is that Nintendo Switch can be the system that bridges both of those and becomes the constant system that you're always using," Koizumi said.Recently, eight IGN staff members got their hands on Nintendo Switch, checking out the system's home and handheld appeal.
