The game previously appeared in arcades and includes the largest roster in Tekken history, with more than 50 characters. Combat includes both one-on-one fighting and tag-team battles, "upending the current fighting game standards and making the game accessible for fans and newcomers alike."
Pair Play mode will allow four players to control characters in a large team battle, while Fight Lab mode will allow players to customize a new training character named Combot. After clearing Fight Lab mode, players will unlock their customized Combot.
"Tekken Tag Tournament is one of the most beloved entries in the Tekken series – not just among fans but also for myself and the entire development team, so crafting the sequel has been a labor of love for everyone here," said director Katsuhiro Harada. "To truly make this game stand up to the high benchmark set by the original, we have injected some exciting features and modes that will revolutionize the online fighting game community and allow new players to enjoy and master the game – so there will be something for everyone."
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will include "innovative online functionality" that will be revealed at a later date. Namco Bandai says to expect more details to come out of E3 in June.
