I bought the Deluxe Edition off amazon when the game first came out near the end of 2009. I played it very briefly but then had to go out of the country.

Coming back a little over a year later to complete the title, I have to say that this is one of the very best ps3 titles out there and the deluxe edition makes it even better with its awesome guide that is overall thorough but missing few information.

To give a bit of background, I don't own a lot of ps3 titles. I picked up the old ps3 that runs ps2 titles and that is pretty much all I've been playing with my ps3. Only a few exclusive titles have been on my list which includes Metal Gear Solid 4, Heavy Rain, and Yakuza 3. I tried the Japanese Final Fantasy 13 when it first came out before stateside.

Overall, Demon's Soul is probably one of my more favorite titles.

What makes this title so great for me is the mixture of RPG of action, along with the fact that the game is extremely difficult and you have a limited set of tools to go against it. I suppose in other games you can do fancy moves and so fort, but with this game there are rarely any super moves only simple ones. For me the game is rather difficult only after the initial worlds mainly due to the fact that you have such limited supply of items and weapons that you just can't properly defend yourself. Once you get to perhaps the third level of the game, you begin to have an easier time with the game and find that you don't die as often.

The game starts you off in this thing called the Nexus. You get infinite lives, but don't let that fool you. In order to progress your levels you must have souls and if you die, you lose your souls but you can recover it unless you die trying to get your souls.

The game lets you choose from various classes. At first I was a bit overwhelmed in my selection, but I think any class is good. Probably have a better starting equipment with a Solider or Royal/Mage. Again, the classes don't really matter, what you should look into is what you get to start off with and what sort of attributes you start with. Once the game starts, your character can do anything you want but if you want a specific build, you might want to consider what roles your characters are going for. Overall what you start off with doesn't necessarily dictate what role you play in the game.

The game is rather difficult. It's hard to explain why it's hard but once you get used to the system you can easily maneuver and evade attacks. At first you're going to have trouble with this. Also there are some things in the early game that makes it extremely difficult. For example, you might find a dragon sitting on a hill and you want to grab loots but suddenly you die from its breath of fire. Things like that at first. As the game goes on, it becomes easier due to the fact that you find better equipments.

There are two modes of play. One is offline, which suggests you just play by yourself, or you can play online. The major benefit of online is that you get to read messages all over the game world. For example, there is one level with many pitfalls and players are kind enough to leave a note before the fall so you can keep an eye out. The one thing the game doesn't tell you is that when you go online, this thing called "World Tendency" which is sort of like saying whether you're in good standings or not with the world you're in, gets shifted according to everyone else. So this means certain valuable items, like a sword or shield, is impossible to obtain unless you go in offline mode.

The one thing this game lacks to me is a story. The world is very interesting, but cut scenes and so fort are rarely seen and rarely do justice. For example, there is one world where a very said maiden comes to help poor people. It's all very sad and yet no story to really bind it. Another thing is that the game never fully explains the worlds you're in and why you're in it. It's sort of like, "Here you are, go in here, do this, and something will happen." I had trouble at first determining my progress because after you defeat the final boss of a level, nothing really happens except you returning to the Nexus.

Another thing that I sort of dislike about the game is that as you progress, it's very easy to make critical errors in the story. For example, before I left the country, I didn't know about weight of your equipment. I just grabbed stuff, but had to drop things. When I couldn't carry something, I would return to the Nexus but then lose that item because I touched it. Also, some critical plot items like meeting a certain person gets lost if you contact that person, then died, and later realized you have to now contact that person every time you load the level. Some other things like simply making a mistake will reset you and it gets frustrating that you can't save inside the level. Overall though, I like how the game automatically progresses and saves you. It sort of adds that extra layer to having a good idea about what to do and how to do it rather than blindly going in, then reloading a save and then getting things. You have to get it right the first time or you don't get it at all with this game. You can't reload a save either once it's done. You have to progress or restart all over again.

Overall the game is a blast to play. It's very difficult but you will have fun. The deluxe game comes with an awesome guide but it only misses out on a few details like online mode or a few issues with the layout and references.

I say this is a must have for any ps3 owner.

I am impressed with Demon's Souls. It has be always wanting to come back to more even when I have many other new games. It does many creative things but the biggest thing about it is its the scope in size of the game. It is a brutal game so if you don't have patience than it might not be for you but you will feel really rewarded and excited to beat certain bosses and you won't feel frustrated like you been cheated in death. Enemies will kill you because you either are not strong enough yet for the encounter or you made a mental error.

The game's premise is a dark world run by demons and your the savior. What you have to do is go through kill demon's and collect their souls that can be used as currency or traded in for new armor, level up your weapons, spells, and such. The ablities your able to mix and match your pretty difference considering you can manipulate a with what you can do with your character. Before you even start your given the option to start as a mage, barbarian, wandered, knight, and so on. Each one has their own strenghts and weaknesses. When you level them up, you pick between what strengths you want to enhance your character from the ability from things such as strength, faith, luck, and such.

The enemies you encounter in the world have amazing designs and great animation. The places you travel through by a hub called the nexus is like a save zone outside of the demon's ability to touch you. From my understanding its between the death and the living. When you die you will go there but you can start again and retain all the items you lost except the souls which is very important to level up. Its like experience points you can lose while in battle. Anyway, the nexus is where you find other people that allow you to store items, learn new magic, buy items, and such. Keep in my mind when you die, you will become a soul and will have to beat a boss or come across a stone piece that allows you to get resurrected.

The creative aspects of the game allows a single player experience with members able to join in your gave via your request that they want to enter to help you out. You and some random player will go around take out enemies and they will often join to help beat a boss which will allow them to live again. On another note you can get invaded by a player which is someone who is a phantom trying to kill you to gain some of your souls and gather some items of yours in your world. To do anything of this, you need a certain stone piece.

That is not all. When you see a blood stain on the ground, you can pick it and see the animation how someone (real player) actually died which could hint you as to what's to come. More so on that, you can actually lay hints and see hits that are placed on the ground to warn you of traps, arrows, a ledge, or anything. Its a preset list but pretty vast in what message you can lay for others to read.

That is all. I will say. I said a lot as it is. The game is extremely good. It is deep in tons of weapons. It has the depth of Fallout 3 in what you can enhance via yourself, weapons, and the many items throughout the game. Its a big title. Its hard at first but gets easier if you grind. This is one of the best games I played all year and this generation. It is a unique game that deserves a chance. It is one of my contenders of game of the year. It has no flaws.

Great gameplay, vast world, great music, great, great atmosphere, lots of depth, and such. It is a must play. There is nothing like it out there.
