The plot is engaging, with cool cutscenes that make me want to find new ways to defeat those pesky aliens. It's like my brain is hardwired to respond to the thrill of battle, and XCOM knows just how to push my buttons.

I can always return to this game. I suck at it, so I can't just "play Long War XXVS" or "XCOM 2: War of the Permadeath Skull Farkers". It's fun before the sweaty streamer difficulty became the normal. No hate towards them. If I played games for my job, I'd want something a LOT more challenging.

If you like RNG nonsense, you will love this game (and XCOM 2). I do not mind losing soldiers, missions and such, but the way all of this happens is pure nonsense. For instance, why should I accept that ALL of my squad members missed their shots on a squid strangler at point-blank range? This happened recently and resulted in my soldier dying because of it – despite everyone being at point-blank range shooting at this thing. There's simply too much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in this game, not even the original XCOM games were this bad.

The only viable way of playing this game is to have such superior firepower that the Aliens don't ever get to do anything. That is, First Striking them. Is this a fun way of playing? No, it's absolute nonsense. But the way this game works is such that you can't afford to let the enemy shoot at you because mathematically speaking, you will eventually lose soldiers this way. Recruits are expensive also. Soldiers aren't expendable the way they are in the original XCOM games.

Then there's the Pod mechanics and the two movements per turn (blue and yellow lines). The Pod mechanic in of itself is nonsense, why aren't the Aliens doing anything? Why are they only moving around upon being discovered? The Pod mechanic coupled with the VERY limiting movement system, makes this extremely frustrating. It makes scouting a somewhat high risk activity. You have to pray to God that you don't uncover a Pod while on your last movement point. So damn cheesy, it's not fun nor fair. And the funny thing is that the original XCOM games didn't have this problem, because they used Time Units (TU). How can a 20+ year old game be better and more "modern" than this piece of garbage? I do not understand.
