Van Helsing final cut contains everything that made Van Helsing 1, 2, and 3 great. This rerelease of the franchise is a bundle that contains all three of the original games with added in content.

As if you had read the comment to this review, you might have seen that previously the end-game content was locked to online only, well as you see, Neocore actually cares about what players think of their products (something that is lacking in the games industry as a whole) and have introduced changes to the game to have the same content (minus the online interactions, such as daily events ect) made available to everyone should either parties internet go down for whatever reason.

I can whole heartily recommend this game as the storys itself is well written and has a good length to it. The gameplay is exactly what you would expect from an isometric ARPG, as in it plays flawlessly. The end-game content (known as scenarios/adventure mode) offer unlimited replayability with randomized missions for you to play through.

The only two downsides that I can think of at this time of writting this review is that there are some balance issues but those are to be expected, as well as the seperation of online and offline characters (which has not been done before in the series). While I see its use and purpose, I still see that as a drawback but now that all content is equal across the board, it is hardly an issue to even mention.

There are some bugs as well but as I can only speak for the ones I have encountered and they have not been many, or game breaking in the time I have spent playing (in both online and offline).

If you want a numeric score I give Van Helsing Finalcut a 8.5/10

Will update when i get home after class.

I´m really glad you took these comments serious enough to make a fair compromise.

Finally, your wishes have been heard. From now on you will be able to play the Adventure mode OFFLINE, also the 1.0.2 patch contains some bug fixes.

That is a really good compromise, thank you for taking it into consideration.

I will happly change this review the second it is implemented.

@Sarok

We already discussed it and we will make adventure made available in offline mode, howeveer you will miss daily quests, leaderboards etc... but I think it's understandable.

Also the characters are not lost. There's a sync issue at some users, but we are working on it.

also claiming "Nowadays, most games require online connection, as, let's face it, we pretty much have internet anytime, anywhere." i mean...really? it is not OUR internet we have to worry about, it is YOUR internet we have to worry about.

i mean i dont know if you have been into the news or anything lately but russia is considering cutting the cables used to have internet around the world....man it is a damn good thing you guys will be able to access your own servers should that happen! because there is no way anyone not on your own land mass will be able to connect to play the same content they were just playing...

also my internet works just fine, so it isnt my "internet" that prevented my saves from saving...just saying...

@megapull
look, i like neocore, i think in general you guys are a pretty good team.

I am just disapointed that you have decided to butcher your own game with online only content that was made availble throughout the franchise.

it makes no sense and makes your game literally an "online only" game as you cannot experience the full product unless you are online.

sure if you want to have special events and daily challenges, you can do that, hell it would even make sense to have that be restricted to online only as it would require a connect to a server to make that stuff happen...but to take the entire end-game content and remove it from offline play? that is messed up and there is no defending that.

especially when it has always been playable up till now while completely offline in van helsing 1, 2, and 3 (without even having a distinction between online and offline characters....)

@Megapull: No.. "Most games" are not online only.. Come to think of it, i can say with full confidence, that its not even a close comparison.. Infact, most games have the option of offline, when there is an online component, short of mmo's, and idiotic decisions like this, or D3...

This wa sone of the single biggest complaints about Diablo 3.. And that is atleast a AAA game, that set the set the standard for the hack-n-slash genre.. (Sorry, i refuse to call it an rpg. Every-goddamn-thing is labelled rpg anymore)... No one likes that Diablo is online only, and for a small studio to try it, on a very below the radar title, is just stupid.. Thanx for the warning.. I own part 1 and 2, but will not purchase anymore.. They were kindve "meh" anyway..

Just to add, it is not online-only. The scenario mode is online only, you can play the campaign offline.

The online/offline distinction is simply there because of two main reasons:

1. Offline characters are easy to mess with. (Cheating)
2. Scenario mode simply has to have online connection, because certain elements of the game are global (e.g. events that are the same for all the players) and simply require net connection in order to sync these stuff for all players simultaneously.

If you can live without the Scenario mode, feel free to choose an offline character, but note that because of reason 1, there is no transfer between online and offline mode.

Nowadays, most games require online connection, as, let's face it, we pretty much have internet anytime, anywhere.

Almost sounds like Diablo 3, haha. With the online-only bit. :P
