For those who have never played Oblivion: Elder Scrolls. There is no real way to describe it, other than the fact that it is a single player RPG that lets you do whatever you want to do. When I mean whatever you want to do, I mean everything. People won't understand it until they've tried it. It also comes with Knight of the Nine and Shivering Isles add ons, which are great addition to the original story.

I strongly recommend that you mod this game, just a bit. In my opinion, all the NPCs look really ugly, and the character customization screen is pretty complicated. Unless you want to really dabble on the customization screen, I would just grab a mod and make your character what you want to look like. Check out tesnexus.com for free mods and add-ons. It's because of the huge mod community that this game has a very high replayability.

As for this particular 5th anniversary edition, it comes with a silver box, and all the stuff that it comes with in the product description.

After playing this game, I have to say, I can't wait for Skyrim to come out.

This is still a great game. If you never played, I suggest you do if you liked Morrowind, Dragonage. This is an open world, quest galore, big map. Open world is just that - a map where you get to go everywhere on the map. Left, right, up, down - everywhere. There are many, many, many dungeons, caves, quests. There is smart AI characters. You get the best character design setup anywhere.
The negative with this 5th editon is that it does not have all the DLC - you will have to import them for the PC, Xbox360. The Ps3 Edition still does not have the smaller DLC's.
The PC version still does not support GAMEPAD use!!! Which is the downside since it's a new release!
About the only new thing is the Map. I hope Skirim supports GamePad use.

I imagine the steelbook version with the map would be nice, however if you order it from TnsDeals you will receive the plastic case European version. This happened twice because I just figured it was a fluke so I ordered a second and still the same thing. I've played the game and it's great, this particular seller, not so much.

It is the game. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion 5th Anniversary Edition. I read in other reviews that this one didn't include the metal case or the game map but since it wasn't the same seller I figured I didn't have to worry about it. I was wrong. Another thing to note, and it's not a big deal, but the game is the European release rather than the North American release. I'll still play it but I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have the extra stuff.

Having played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, I look back on Oblivion with fond memories and still get the craving to play it.
The mechanics are the usual hack and slash you have become used to in the previous game with much improved visuals. I could nit pick some things I did not like, bit the good out shines them too greatly to bother. While others may look to Skyrim for it being the most recent and shiniest, Oblivion is still a strong addition to the story, crammed with the lore, action, and expansive world fans have come to expect from The Elder Scrolls series.

The game is awesome! Buy this for the game only, because they advertise this as the US version, but you get the European version instead. It is missing the metal case and the $10 off Skyrim coupon and all the fancy stuff you see in the pictures, also the map is plain paper not semi-vinyl as others have stated here.
I really hate to rate low such a great game, but I had to do it for the false advertisement.
That said, I could not find the true Oblivion 5th Anniversary Edition US version anywhere.

Oblivion set to achieve a benchmark in gaming and succeeded in some respects, but failed in many other ways too. With the advent of the final game copy with both shivering isles and the Nine this is one of the more complete sets. I played this game when it first came out and then a second time with this game just to see if they had fixed their mistakes. NOPE!

Graphics:
Oblivion back in its hayday was beautiful and still is. The textures are wonderful especially on the weapons. However npc are horrid looking and many of the textures are reused. Don't believe me? Watch the DVD making of that comes with this game itself and at the 7 min mark they say, "its like Lego pieces, we just put them together." Every dungeon, boulder, and pasture looks identical in oblivion. There is absolutely no variation except when you get to the mountains. Once you've seen one you've seen them all. I have studied game design and almost became a game dev myself (biochemist now) and Lego working with a few tile sets is the laziest style any game dev does. You have a few tile sets and you just string them together to make each place look slightly different but not enough to stop the player from having deja vu. I should stress though to those who say you can't make a good looking character, well you can. I actually made my own face the first time and link from Zelda my second time (just for fun).

Sound:
Oblivion has nice sound effects except the horses running which always sound the same no matter which surface you ride on. The scores are beautiful but there are ONLY 5 MAIN SONGS! And each is around a minute and half. I should mention there are 26 total each that last around the same time each but you hear those other ones very rarely. There is only one battle song and it is for EVERY battle. Yes that's right every battle! There is no boss music no epic uprising music no nothing. You will hear all five songs within the first hour or so and then they will drive you crazy. Voice acting is terrible too as every person sounds the same and at times probably due to hiring 5 or so actors. Some characters will randomly change their voice too. An example would be one of the beggars. Go talk to them then click rumor and two other conversation topics and you at most will hear two different voices if not three. This will also drive you crazy after the first hour. Luckily I can turn the music off and pipe in my own tunes. Its fun playing the Conan Soundtrack during epic moments.

Gameply:
Some people will say its repetitive but every RPG is. Diablo is the most repetitive and I think its one of the best RPG's out there. The real problem are the bugs. There are a TON OF THEM. Especially during the vampire quest. If you don't have save file from before you became a vampire (and you will eventually) then even if you do get the potion to turn you human people will still treat you as a vampire. After taking the potion and saving you then have to load an old save the load your newest save and then you're cured. ReallY???!!! Other times your horse can glitch and get lost. You can lose important NPC's for quests that get stuck permanently and many many more. Lucky for me I make a lot of saves and I didn't have a problem but for other people who aren't careful when they save will really not have a good time. The bugs really make this game nearly unplayable.

No finishing moves or at least Cinematic finishing moves. Even Chrono Trigger (1995) had those and it was cool to see it with the Dragon tank and other bosses.

I also hate riding through the same scenes over and over (see lego in graphics). There is fast travel but if the game was really exciting would you really have to use fast travel to get from point A to point B? Its as if the devs knew the game was TOO big with a bunch of useless pork and just made fast travel. I'm not against big games, I'm against big games that are redundant and big for the sake of the devs going "See WE DELIVERED FOOLS!"

Level scaling is an abomination in this game. Most people don't realize this but every RPG has level scaling but the dev for Oblivion had no clue what he was doing. Oblivion is the ONLY rpg I know of where the enemies level to your level in Oblivion so there is not point in getting stronger. In fact it can hurt you. When I did the main quest at level 25 I realized that the soldiers have a capped level but monsters don't and at certain parts where you need the NPC's (two come to mind) to have your back they drop like flies leaving you having to run and dart to quickly get what you need. This in turn ruins the game cause you end up just running through dungeons not caring to fight cause you know it'll just hurt you more in the end. Regardless if you get this game you should play the main quest first. The most perfect example of level scaling is Chrono Trigger. In Chrono Trigger you can go WHEREEVER you want right from the beginning. certain areas are unlocked as you progress through the game such as a bridge being out, but that isn't to say Chrono Trigger is a small game its HUGE and every area is detailed completely differently.

Skills in the game are crap. The only useful skills are knight like skills and destruction/restoration are the only good magicks to use. Illusion for example in the beginning only allows you to see in the dark....Wow brilliant. A spell I only use once in a while so it doesn't level up and I can't use the good ones like paralyze that are at level 50 with the skill. Alchemy is horribly done in this game. I was thinking I could put a poison on my blade like in the Witcher 2 and it would stay there for a while. NOPE! Each and every strike requires another addition of poison. Most enemies take 20-40 hits to be put down. If you don't believe it takes that many then play the main quest where you have NPC's fighting alongside you. Their weapons actually break fighting and since they are NPC they cannot repair weapons/armor and subsequently die in seconds. Are you kidding Bethesda???!! The alchemy in SECRET OF EVERMORE IS BETTER DONE THANT THIS, and Evermore is SOOOOO OLD. armorer, lockpicking are useful but you don't need to assign them to your major skill sets as you will use the enough that you don't need to worry about them. Again the only class worth while are the knight like classes. I made my own and called it a Witcher class and of course there was alchemy in it. Strangely enough too there is no medium armor?? Only light and heavy. UMMmmm WHAT???!!

Making weapons. That's something that didn't come with the original game. Its pretty cool but you gotta go to the shivering isles to do it. You can enchant weapons/arrows/armor, make your own spells, and whatnot at the magick school in Cyrodiil once you gain entrance to the school.

Story:
The main story is crap. Your guy makes no difference at all. Everyone treats him as an errand boy and the only cool part is one of the final quests called "paradise". The side quests on the other hand are ALOT of FUN. Especially the NINE quest was absolutely epic and its too bad the music didn't match it. In fact if anything which is sad the thieves guild quest has more to do with the main story then the main story as you find out what an Elder scroll actually is. This is really what Oblivion is all about, the side quests. The game is very long possibly well over 100 hours.

Conlusion:
While Oblivion is fun it lacks a lot essential important themes that make an RPG great. It does many things right but it fails to follow through with its ideas hence the two steps back. Oblivion is a great game once modded but that isn't what the devs created. Chrono Trigger for instance has has around 6 different boss themes and that is just boss music! Oblivion has no boss music. In fact in Secret of Mana 3 (seiken densetesu 3) each and every day actually has a different effect on characters and their magic. days make no difference in Oblivion. Why even have a calender when it doesn't mean anything? All in all if you are new to the RPG genre you will like this game cause you haven't obviously played good RPG's such as Secret of Mana (you can play with a friend in true coop too on the SNES), Secret of Evermore, Chrono Trigger, FF7, The Witcher 2, Mass Effect 1/2, Earthbound, Lunar 2, Breath of Fire, Dragon Quest, Diablo, etc. If you have played the classics and good new RPG games you will probably like Oblivion but you will see the problems within the first five hours but will still end up enjoying it. People who hate RPG's will hate this game. Also interestingly as a rule of thumb the best RPG's have Dragons in them and the only exception to that rule are games such as Diablo and Mass Effect. Oblivion doesn't have dragons which is weird for a fantasy game, but nonetheless it still holds true to my rule about great RPG's having dragons. Odd I know but it's pretty true.

On a side note I believe many of the devs got a severe lashing at Bethesda as none of this crap will be in Skyrim (the sequel) and will have fixed every issue I have talked about here. Skyrim also interestingly has dragons.

Well If I were just reviewing the game itself It'd be a 5/5, because Oblivion is a great game, and if I were reviewing the ACTUAL 5th Anniversary edition, well it's probably get a high score as well, but what I got in the mail wasn't what was advertised on here let me just show you:

What's advertised:
Steelbook
Gamemap inside
DVD of the Making of the game
The Game itself plus the DLC

What I got:
NO steelbook
NO gamemap
NO DVD
but I did get the game and the DLC

This is stupid why would you advertise something and then ship it without all the stuff that people ordered it for?, you might as well get the Game Of The Year edition if it lacks everything that makes it the 5th Anniversary edition. So if you are planning on buying this save your money. But to fair Amazon was very co-operative in giving me a full refund but that doesn't change the fact of what is advertised and what was shipped.
