Choose Your Faction for Local and Online Play
In Armored Core V players join a faction and make strategic and battlefield decisions based on the needs of that group. The overall goal is to acquire territory, which can be altered, to the detriment of rivals. As in earlier releases in the franchise, players can customize their armored core mechanized combat units to fit a variety of needs. In fact, Armored Core V allows for more customization options than ever before in franchise history. Players can upgrade and customize their mechs using 500+ items such as head pieces, cores, arms, legs, and weapons. Armored cores can also be outfitted with a wide variety of weaponry, including new 'Over' weapons, which can destroy enemies with a single round. Designed for strategic use, Over weapons are available in three varieties: close range, long range, and area. Mechs within the game can also be configured to a smaller size than in previous games, making them faster and more maneuverable than in the past. They are also more easily rendered, en masse in online play. Once mechs are configured, they can be stored in garages throughout the play area, making them available more quickly, and as a squad, wherever the player may think that they will be needed.
Players of Armored Core V who have a consistent broadband connection also have to the option of creating a persistent online profile. The profile allows for interactive online multiplayer, in matches up to five-on-five. But online profiles do not necessarily need to equate to online play. Once profiles are setup, they can be used to track both multiplayer online activities, as well as single player success.

I love the controls. I'm seeing lots of reviews where people are just complaining about the way the ACs move in Armored Core V. In past AC games, it was possible to boost jump high into the air. Now you have to depend on buildings and other structures to jump off of in order to get to higher places. Another change is the way weapons are used. You can no longer use back weapons. If you want to use a weapon that's strapped to your back, you have to switch it to your arm. You can do that by pressing triangle and L2 or R2 simultaneously. Even with these changes, the game is still fun. If anything, it gives it a more realistic feel. The Graphics aren't amazing. Don't expect anything like Killzone 2/3 or the Uncharted series, but they are pretty good. About what I expect from an AC game.
It's somewhat difficult to write a review for something that's this involved. I have to wait and see what the online gaming is going to be like. But, so far, what From Software and Bandai Namco set up here is damn near perfect. Give it a chance, will ya?
gratifying explosions
innovative co-op and online play
replay ability almost infinite
outstanding graphics and mech design
cons: Always online
hiring a mercenary can be tedious
new parts are hard to find when they become available
The newest installment of the armored core series is loads of fun to play both with friends and as a mercenary. The story is kind of silly but the explosions and mech customization is quite outstanding. I love that I can play online with my friends and work as a merc for anyone willing to pay. Unfortunately as a merc you often don't get paid very well, but it is fun none the less. Over all this game is better than Armored Core 4, and well worth the price tag.
With every iteration the game, I felt got better and better. With that said Armored Core V to me, was a big step backwards.
What went wrong is the game went over a huge overhaul. The Mechs are smaller, they User Interface (UI) is significantly different and the way the story plays out or just figuring out how to go through the story is just a horrible user experience. Normally, I would stick with it and carry on through playing the game, but this game was such a mess that I just stopped playing and traded it in.
The best way I could describe the user experience, is like upgrading from iOS6 -> iOS7 or Windows 7 -> Windows 8 and regretting you ever upgraded. In time those systems will get better, so hopefully... Armored Core 6 will have all these bad features cleaned up... and really hope they do.

They replaced the radar of every other AC games with a scan mode, which turns your screen an even shade of blue, and then you gotta find the blue outlines over the blue background textures in which case a blue square will appear around it.
And you have to do this all the time, against tiny stuff far away, and it's very important because it tells you what you need to actually do against the specific opponment.
In short, I wasn't just colorblind, I was BLIND. Seriously, game designers, there's been a trend lately about games that are impossible to play for colorblind people... stop it!!
*****ALSO VERY IMPORTANT*****
If you are from north-america (like Amazon.ca) and they tell you that the only new ones they got in stock is from the UK... they will send you the european "region-locked" version of the game. It'll be hell to patch it and you might get some network issues.
