Metroid: Return to Form
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since Metroid: Other M in 2010, the Metroid series has fallen far from its graces of the 90's and mid-2000s. Whereas the former games were about platforming and exploration, Other M was more about combat and completely linear A-to-B style gameplay. On top of that, it had a story that was terribly written, and horribly acted. Metroid: Samus Returns is none of these things. This game goes back to the familiar platforming, exploration-based gameplay of Metroids of the past. The game itself is 3D, but movement is 2D sidescrolling. This is a remake of a 1991 Gameboy game, but it's so thoroughly redesigned that it may as well be an entirely new game. Gameplay follows the basic premise of, you enter an area ripe for exploration and obtain items as you search around which let you proceed further in the area until you're able to locate and defeat all of the Metroids in the area, which then opens a new area to explore. Throughout the course of the game, you'll constantly get items that open up new places in old areas, but the backtracking is never tedious thanks to teleport stations scattered throughout the planet. For veteran fans of the Metroid series, this game is a welcome return to form after the failed attempts from the past nearly decade. However, there's a bit less freedom in this than in older Metroid games; basically every item in the game is NECESSARY to beating the game. There's no item skipping or "sequence breaking" opportunities in Samus Returns. For fans of fast action adventure-type games, Metroid: Samus Returns would be a good addition to your library. It's certainly high on the list of best Nintendo 3DS games, regardless of whether you've played a Metroid game in the past.

Phenomenal remake.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a remake of Metroid 2: Return of Samus on the Gameboy, the last Metroid game in need of a remake. Whilst there is still something special and unique about the original Metroid 2, this version, in my mind, is the definitve way to experience Samus's metroid extermination mission on SR388, with the gameplay revamped to play more like Super Metroid/GBA Metroid games, a new melee counter which ramps up the action and the music also revamped with the original music getting amazing remakes, new music so befitting to Metroid, and remixes of Super Metroid/Metroid Prime music. This version has some new boss/enimies not found in the original, also abilities new to this game (from other games i.g. Super Metroid) and new Aeion abilities never seen in a Metroid game. If you 100% the game you'll unlock the full Chozo Memories which adds new lore to the franchise. Also by beating the game you'll get hard mode (differnt from fusion mode unlocked by the Metroid amiibo after beating the game). Overall a GREAT game.

The Remake we wanted
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.People have been clamoring for a Sidescrolling Metroid game for years... and Nintendo has finally delivered on a remake of the old original Gameboy game Metroid II. Aside from the obvious visual overall, new mechanics and creatures make this game much more interesting than the original, with a much more open area to explore as well. The game is fantastic and recommended for Metroid fans.

Incredible game--among the best in the series
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Believe the hype, because Samus truly is back and boy is it a glorious return to form for the bounty hunter extraordinaire. This is easily one of the best in the series history and, in fact, if I had to rank it among the other 2D entries in the series, I'd say it's right up there along side the legendary Super Metroid. While playing through this game, it was obvious that MercurySteam and the big N put so much love and care into this title. They really captured the feel of a Metroid game, and it shows in all facets of the experience. From the stellar score and the fresh and exciting gameplay, to the immersive and detailed organic backgrounds (with a very impressive 3D effect to top it off), the whole experience just sucks you in, keeping you mesmerized and engaged throughout; it truly feels like you're all alone on this dangerous yet engrossing alien planet. Even the way Samus animates and moves about is done with such style, finesse and polish that it’s just a delight to take control of and really helps solidify her as the badass we knew she always was. All of this coalesces to form a game that not only meets, but in my opinion, exceeds the standards set by the "Metroidvania" genre it helped create. There's a good reason why many games seek to emulate this franchises' style and gameplay, and this game is proof that the grandfather of them all still has what it takes to reign supreme. There's a certain something about this series 2D entries, a certain polish if you will, that lends itself well to it being the epitome of it's namesake genre. I urge anyone who has even an ounce of interest in action-adventure platformers to give this a try--you won't be disappointed.

Samus Returns to great form
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After years of a "true" Metroid game being absent (I do not count Other M or Federation Farce), Metroid Samus Returns comes to fill that oh so long gap. If you are a fan of 2D Metroid (Super Metroid, Fusion, Zero Mission) this is essentially the next step forward and should not be missed. Besides the graphics, everything is fine tuned and should be a welcome addition to the 2D Metroid family.

My dream was answered!!! A Metroid 2 Remake!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When Nintendo Showed their Nintendo Direct during E3 and gave us two metroids-Metroid 2 remake and Metroid Prime 4; you could clearly see the reaction by majority of players. A 2D and a 3D metroid a little over a year apart is a dream come true. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS, wanted a remake of Metroid 2 for any platform whether it was a handheld or on console; a remake was absolutely necessary. Its, because Metroid 2 on the original gameboy is so outdated, it should have been released on the SNES like super metroid if it were possible. Anyway, I have never finished Metroid 2 on the gameboy as I was too young to fully comprehend it at the time, but with the Remake nearly 20 years later, I can fully experience it they way it was meant to be played. I love this game and I can't wait for Metroid Prime 4(2018/2019). It will be amazing. The game includes Metroid: Samus Returns case and cartridge, and soundtrack that is on a compact disc. It includes a few soundtracks from EVERY metroid game from Metroid 1 all the way to this metroid. Yes.....Every single one-Metroid 1,super metroid, Prime 1, Prime 2 Echoes, Prime 3 corruption, Zero Mission, Fusion, etc. Make sure you also get the metroid amiibos to unlock the content in this game. 4 amiibos are Zero Suit Samus, Varia Suit Samus, Metroid 2 Samus, and Metroid Squishy Amiibo in the dual pack.

A Spectacular remake
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Metroid: Samus Returns is a remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus for the Game Boy. This version of the game, outside of graphical improvements, remixes the level layouts and adds a few extra abilities. The changes to the game make it much more fun to play, while keeping the story intact. I'd definitely recommend this if you're a Metroid fan!

Q: QuestionWhy is this still not available to pre-order? It has been listed on Gamestop for months already :(
Asked by Mark.
- A:Answer Keep checking online because more pre-orders may become available before release date. Otherwise whatever next batches of product Nintendo ships will likely go to stores on release day and that morning they should have extra on top of the reserved pre-orders. Sometimes they have yet to open the box and put on the shelf but they will if you inquire.

Q: QuestionWill this be restocking?
Asked by Scarlet.
- A:Answer Most likely no. Nintendo special editions are usually very limited and do not last past the initial pre-order window.
