Why does McDonald still have N64's?

I went to my local McDonald's today, as my nieces like their food for some reason.

While they were playing, I spied a 4 N64 kiosks; featuring Banjo-Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, Snowboard Kids, and Diddy Kong Racing. I know MCDonald's is still connected with Nintendo as they feature free wi-fi. Man, what a trip down memory lane. The nostalgia factor was better than the Virtual console. Surprisingly, everything worked, and was in pretty decent shape.

Lol I have NO idea, but I thought they only existed in Mexico.. but I was wrong... but they're really fun, unless the joystick is like half bitten off and the controllers covered in kid goop.

I never knew such a thing existed: video games in a McDonald's? I live in California and I've never heard of this. But then again, I don't ever eat there.

Mexico has so many stores that sell N64's, that's almost the only game system I see there. Did the US dump all the ones they didn't sell? Has anyone heard an explanation for this?

well from what I've seen.. a lot of the people buy a whole fuckload of products over here, then sell them over there. N64 is hi-techniccaalllllllllll over there.

I have never seen a N64 at Mc Donalds either, Ive only seen those crappy touch screen kiosk things at Burger King

Well..a friend of mine tells me the gamestores and department stores over there stock more 360s and PS3s than anything...the PSP and PS2 sell very strong too, as well as the DS Lite. Pretty much everything but Gamecube and Wii have high sales in Mexico..I think..unless she is wrong.

Considering half of nintendo's releases are ports anyways, especially with the DS this might not be bad idea...

They had a good selection of games, and Diddy Kong racing is on the DS.

I saw one on my vacation to Florida last month in South Carolina I think. It had Pokemon Snap and Stadium. But the girl I was with wouldn't let me play because my family was waiting for us in the car.

Still it surprised the hell out of me to see a Nintendo 64 in a McDonald's.

What's even more of a throwback?

Seeing a Killer Instinct arcade machine and hearing it go on and on and on and on about "ULTRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA 64"

There are a few McDonalds in the Portland, OR area that have Gamecube kiosks in them. Never seen an N64 in one though... Not that I go there very much ;).

ive seen n64 ones, not in a long time, but i have seen some with gamecube kiosks more recently. hard to say, i dont exactly go to mcdonalds on a regular basis.
Is this the McDonalds off Venice?

If so, man I love going to that one whenever I'm up in that area lol...
That's exactly what I was thinking...I've only seen this at the McD's at Venice and Overland in West LA/Culver City (only been in there once, I don't frequent McDonalds).

What's funny is, they had GIANT banners/signs up around the playplace and highly visible from the street that they have a "Nintendo N64 arcade" in there. Don't recall if the signs are still up (last I remember looking at the place as I passed by, they were still there...and I pass by there at least twice a month), but they were up for at least 6 years and I can't imagine they've taken them down.

And yeah, "kid goop" is right.

That place is FILTHY (no surprise, it's a McDonalds) and that game system/controls are COVERED in "kid goop".

I've seen a few around central Texas, but at least one of the four units is usually fucked up. I remember Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was on one of them. They're pretty neat. :)

I have seen several McD's with N64's in them. I remember there was one that had Super Smash Bros on it and I just loved to play it way back before I had a game system.

Also I went to one McD's that had several Arcade machines set up, the only horribly annoying thing was that it restarted the game every 15 minutes so that hypothetically everyone got a turn.

There is one of these in my city, I remember stopping in for whatever reason and we went inside, and bam, there it was - I forget what games they had for it, but it was kind of weird to see.

The last time I was at one of my local McDonalds they had a few Gamecube kiosks with the Luigi's Mansion, Rogue Squadron, and Wave Race, but it's been a year or two since I've been there and I have no idea if they still have them.
I'm confused as to what wifi has to do with a Nintendo affiliation
Sometimes, they charge for wi-fi, but it's always been free with a DS. When Nintendo first rolled out Wi-fi they did it in conjunction with Mickey-D's.

I never eat at Mcdonalds so I cannot comment on the locations in my area, but I would just wash my hands immediately after touching that controller!

So, like, with a laptop you'd have to pay but with a DS it's free?

I remember seeing those N64 kiosks in New Jersey a year or two ago. I concur, it's a bit strange. Of course, one the supermarkets where I used to live has a 'we watch your kids while you shop' place and they still have a 64 set-up, too... AND an SNES.

If nothing else, it's telling of the endurance of those systems... how many years later AND in a McD's and they still work? Impressive.

My local one still has a N64 kiosk. The 4 games are DK 64, THPS 1, F-Zero X, and NBA Live 99. It's been a couple years since I've seen anyone playing them. One day, I wrapped my hands in napkins and tried them to see if they still work. They still play perfect, but I didn't play for long.

The only games I have ever seen at McDonald's is the one in Orlando that claims to be the world's largest McDonald's. It had a full size arcade and even had a F-Zero AX cabinet (this was in 2004)

When I used to work at Kmart, way early on, they had a solely a PS1 on display.

Keep in mind, this was 2002, and the PS2, Xbox and GameCube were all in stores.

I was the lucky stockboy who had to throw the kiosk in the dumpster. Taking it home crossed my mind, but I went Office Space on it, smashing it into a million pieces.

Because it is K-Mart, it doesn't sound that surprising. My local K-Mart only has PS2 and XBox (with the large controller) kiosks.
One of my McDonalds has a GameCube...with both joystick nubs CHEWED off. Nasty.
HAHAHA greatest post EVER.

Reminds me of an old eBay auction for an old Atari system with a lot of games. Everything was described in detail as perfect, with the exception of "one controller has a BITE MARK in it". I can just picture some kid getting pissed off playing Pitfall and trying to take a bite out of a corner of one of those square controllers...

ya i was in venie last wenseday and saw that singh thought it was pretty funny

I have never seen a video game console of any sort at any fast food establishment. Then again I don't eat that filth so...gluck!

I wish my McDonalds would've had some of these nintendo devices... then again I rarely ate at McDonalds until college, and then I only did after heavy nights of drinking. Today I'm McDonalds free and much happier. I do miss the fries though...

I think the better question should by why do some hotels still have N64s...and charge $10 an hour to play games...

Haha wow they're at the one by me too, I forgot about those. Mario Party and something else, but man do I not let those go when I go with my little cousin.

ABout 6 years or so ago on a field trip I remember stopping at a McDonalds that had one. I schooled my friend with one hand (while the other ate a burger) in Mario Tennis.

The one Mickey D's here had/has them in the front of the restaurant, looking out over the main road down in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Or, at least they HAD them last time I was even IN the Mcd's down there.
