Are retailers liquidating Xbox?

CAGiversary!
I went to Toys R Us and Best Buy today and found the Xbox and Gamecube selections to be minimal. It seems most of the shelf space was devoted to PS2, Xbox 360, and to a lesser extend the Nintendo Wii. PS3 games had very little shelf space.

My question is, are retailers beginning to phase out of Xbox and Gamecube games?

Is the Xbox 360 really that popular already even at $400 that retailers are already phasing out the 'old' stuff? Am I the only one who thinks $400 is too much for a gaming system? Everyone thought the PS2 and Xbox were too expensive at $300 a few years ago.

I would imagine the newer systems would not be so popular until after the first price drop.

In the case of Xbox 1, MS were losing money on each unit so it was phased out as soon as X360 is out.

I was referring to the games (software).

Xbox games are just not selling anymore, there is no incentive for a retailer to take up shelf space with games that are only going to collect dust.

At the Toys R Us I work at, we have 6 main systems, 360, PS2, PS3, Wii, Nintendo DS, and PSP. Everything else will be in like a bargain bin or something. I dont think we even sell Gamecubes or Xboxs anymore.

The GBA section is still pretty huge at the TRU's in my area, and probably will be for a while. In fact, it's much bigger than the PSP section.

That's how I feel but apparently it's the exception as Gamecube and XBox sections keep getting smaller and smaller and it seems no one other than EA has anything upcoming for either system with a few exceptions

You'd think those Cube titles would sell better since you can play all of them on the Wii. Orig Xbox I can see no one caring about cos 360 games look sooo much better than Xbox 1, and thats what most people care about. But good Cube games still look better than any Wii games releases so far.

Gamestop has so many used Xbox 1 games, they keep having buy 2 get 1 free, which has been great because of the last backwards compatibility update. I did buy new copies of Phantom Dust for $5 and SW:Republic Commando , and they said it was the first sealed Xbox 1 games they have sold in 6 months

I was at Gamestop too, unfortunately mine had all the used xbox games virtually the same price as they were 2 years ago. At this rate, they aren't going to get rid of their inventory very soon.

I've seen that far too much as well... there's the "we got tons of these" titles for cheap, but there are quite a few titles that are just overpriced for used items on a console that is now simply done...

*shrug* They'll be stuck with them for a LOT longer if they keep propping up the price-points.

See, this was the thing that pissed me off most. I know I was looking for every game I could find with an Xbox version out there, but sadly once MS discontinued the Xbox, almost all support for it stopped.

There were many pissed off Xbox owners like me asking WHY the Xbox versions of some games which were pretty close to release were cancelled.

One glaring example of that was Bully, which became a PS2 exclusive of sorts due to them cancelling the Xbox version.

See, I'm not a graphics fiend who needs to see the individual drops of sweat coming off a football player in Madden or the blades of grass moving in the breeze as a race car goes by in GT HD.

I could care less about graphics, as long as the damned console still sells games and I get the version of the game I WANT TO BUY. And that didn't happen due to MS canning production of the original Xbox, since everyone said 'oh they have a new console, we don't need to support this one'.
