Help Learning Guitar

Ranger Rick

CAGiversary!
What are some good, free websites, which help beginners learn guitar. I just bought a Dean Vendetta XM to fool around with a week ago and I've been looking for a good site. Wondering if any CAG's know of any. So far I've been using a book and DVD my friend let me borrow. Thanks for any help.

www.ultimateguitar.com is by far the best online resource that I know about.

Radjago: Who *can't* read tabs? They're pretty much self-explanatory.

EDIT: Rad, I saw your sig and looked up your band on MySpace. You guys are pretty good. I sent a friend request.
Oh yeah- the band MySpace says you are 23.

Yes, I can read tabs. And I've been using ultimateguitar for tabs for guitar pro 5. I looked at some of the begginer lessons but I didn't think they were all they helpfull. I'll have to look around some more.

If you don't mind spending $10, I highly recommend Guitar World's "Ultimate Guitar DVD". I picked it up as a refresher course as well as a learning tool when I started playing again after a 2 year layoff, and it has everything you could possibly want for the price, and a whole lot more.

If you're inetrested, check in the magazine section of your favorite store. It's a DVD and a book with tabs to accompany the video lessons, all for $9.99.

I used to be at one point in my life.

I can read sheet music.. but I've never seen tabs before. Can I use that same ultimate guitar site without knowledge of tabs?
tabs are just numbers. I'd be surprised if 5% of guitar players out there can read music.
I can read sheet music - for brass. I have no idea how to do it for guitar, but I want to. I could tell you what to play single string, but not multi-string.

All tabs are is a set of 6 lines, each representing a string. There are numbers on each line, and those numbers represent which frets you are supposed to finger. It's simple, really.
