I was wondering about the Persona 3 guide, the dude at Gamestop asked me If I wanted the guide and showed me it. It was shrink wrapped so I could not look threw it but the thing was tiny.... How little is the print the guide.. And for $20 and an Atlus guide it seems pretty thin....

Thanks

The guide is from DoubleJump, not Atlus.

There's a good deal of print on the pages (more than the Brady / Prima guides that I've purchased). Haven't read much of the spoiler-y stuff, but it does have a full list of persona, explanations on fusion, monthly calendars for progressing through the story, and information on maxing academics, charm, etc.

It also has an interesting section on JP culture, that gets into some of the non-American aspects of the game (holidays, the school system, clubs, etc.)

Well I new it was not from Atlus but either way thanks on the info i may pick it up today with the game if they have any.. I think EB/Gamestop still discount the guides if you buy with game right?

I remember picking up the Guide for Disgaea 2 and it was around the same size just thick as hell...

Thanks and hello to a fellow WI CAG !!

Is there actually enough stuff in Persona 3 to warrant a guide purchase? I rarely ever buy guides and generally ignore them except for games that are loaded with optional content or have very well in depth statistical listings of stuff I'd want to know.

Been on the edge about it for some time and I haven't heard a definitive answer on it. Though Mark may be the only one who can give a good response but anybody who has the guide could probably throw me their opinions. There weren't very good ones in the Persona 3 thread but I figured I'd throw this out here since it has its own thread now.

Doublejump guides are a no-brainer purchase for me. Plus I got like 20% off the guide because the guy knows I have the game preordered.

No other company nowadays does guides as well as DJ. Working Designs did great guides, Nintendo used to although they seem to churn out too much crap now. I can't stand Bradygames/Prima guides anymore.

Yeah I already know about the quality of DoubleJumps guides and have a few among the very few I've purchased but it's not enough for me to warrant an instant buy.

Im on the same fence you are seeing I guess I would have the option of 20% off the guide but I hardly buy them anymore either and if anything I know down the road the guide will be hard to find and people will want it.

Other than that is there enough bonus/additional content in the game that a guide would help out that would normalty be harder to figure out on your own. I just ask because normally if I get stuck or want to know about extra stuff in games I just hit up Gamefaqs.com...

therefore, the guide would be very useful in explaining your options and building your relationships with other characters.

I saw the guide in store today and I was kinda disappointed that it was the small form one (like the Nocturne, Castlevania DoS guides) and not the larger one (like Rogue Galaxy). I hate guides like that as it makes it impossible to leave it open and use.

I like DJ guides too but their usually so expensive. I didn't mind $20 for the Rogue Galaxy guide but this one doesn't seem like it's worth the $20.

i agree with you on that one. its more of a book-size than an actual guide. but i guess they make good guides thats why nis/atlus uses them alot now. they did though, however, use a regular format guide for devil summoner. i wonder why..

The guide is kind of "lacking" in terms of required essentials from Persona 3(trust me I know what you need and what you don't) :(

well, it was an insta-buy for me. it helps that i also got 20% off with purchase, but i would have gotten it anyway, i think. smt games are often so hard, and i like it as a collectors item.

The guy at EB asked me if I wanted it, and I said yeah, let me see it. Then he went to get it and said, "Oh, nevermind, we don't have it."

But if it's in the same style as Nocturne's I doubt I'd want it. It was mostly just maps, and bulletpoints on what to do. Not my ideal layout. I'll probably just wait a while until a couple FAQ's get put up and pick the one that best fits me.

I got it because it'll probably be worth a decent amount sometime down the line, like Nocturne's is now. Mine wasn't shrinkwrapped though, and it wasn't in excellent condition. For some reason, pages 193-200 sort of jut out of the book :(

I flipped through it, and it doesn't seem quite on par with the Nocturne guide though. That thing was a monster 450 pages or so.

I'm considering picking this up to help me out with planning out my days. So as long as it does that right I don't really have a problem with it.

I think it's worth it, I'm glad I got my copy early cause the GS I bought my P3 at didn't have anymore of the strategy guides in stock.

There is no Persona fusion list, something IMO that needs to be added.

At least it's easy to find one online....
