Is it ok to have two computers hooked up in one room?

coolcolt

CAGiversary!
I'm talking about the power consumption. My sister gave me her old computer. It still has a lot of PC games on it.I want two computers hooked up in my room but I don't want to blow out a fuse. I'm kinda thinking about buying another surge protector.

I'm thinking about buying another surge protector but I can still plug a few more things in the one that I already have.

US power is, for the most part, 120 volts. The average circuit breaker is, I think, 15 amps. 120 x 15 = 1800 watts. If you had two VERY beefy PCs (dual quad core + SLI 8800 running at full tilt) maybe it would pull 1800 watts.

Note: I am not an electrician, nor did I stay at a Howard Johnson last night, but I think this is how it works.

I don't have two beefy PCs.I'm using a refurbished Windows XP Professional right now and the computer I want to hook up is a old Windows ME computer which has a lot of gigs left on it.I also want to hook up my wireless router for both computers and for my xbox.

My point is you should be okay to do it. I'd guess the worst that could happen is you'd trip the circuit breaker.

I think the absolute worst that could happen is everything bursts into a giant ball of fire and burns the house down. However I think you have a better chance of getting struck by lightening then being eaten by a shark
You will be fine. I have 4 in this room alone.
It must be like a furnace in there.

You'll be fine, OP.

I don't know why you guys are telling him it'll be fine. Sooner or later those computers are going to talk and join. The will unforce the power of their megahurtz on you and your household. Never trust two computers in one room. I'd definitely separate them.

My brother took a megahurtz to the knee and has been walking with a limp ever since. Please be careful of your computers together are remember that they are wild animals and may instinctually lash out if they feel threatened. Also try to feed them only raw meat and turnips as that is their natural diet.
you should be fine, just make sure not to overload one single outlet lol
IT IS NOT FINE! THINK ABOUT THE MEGAHURTZ COMBINING! ARRRGGGHH!!!!! HURRRRRR!!!!!!
THINK ABOUT THE MEGAHURTZ COMBINING!
Isn't that what happened in Doom 3? The megahurtz combined and opened a portal to hell, I'm just saying...

The world will blow up if you do that

It's honestly about 8 degrees warmer in this room than any other room. It helps that two of the machines idle most of the time.

i can confirm, 15amps is standard... so like the guy said earlier 15amps x 120volts = 1800 watts = 1 circuit...

worst case scenario (depending on how your house is wired sometimes a few bedrooms share 1 circuit) your mom decides to vaccuum the upstairs and plugs in the family 12 amp vaccuum cleaner while your sister uses her 1500 watt hair dryer, all that's gonna happen is you'll trip your circuit breaker...

You idiots have all completely missed the point:

2 computers
Tiny Room

Your nuts are gonna shrivel up into raisins with all that EMF floating around.
Want kids? Time to start jackin into the ice cube trays....

Yeah, like MTX said I have two on LAN in the basement together.

My living room is running one for uh old games, and then my complete entertainment center on two plugs alone...if I have the stereo going, the A/c on and run the vacuum I blow a fuse and then go down and reset it otherwise its fine.

I think he stated he has fuses...which sucks because he is going to have to buy another fuse...

Most people say "blow a fuse" when they mean "trip a circuit breaker", so he may actually have circuit breakers.
Didn't school and Internet cafe have like 20+ computers in the same room?
Most likely they are not all on the same circuit.

I have 3 running in my room right now. Two are running XP while the other is running 98. All three are running while a TV, sound system, fan, and usually a game console or two is running all at the same time. So far I have had this set up for about 4 years now and everything is fine.

also likely they're on industrial grade stuff... ie 30-40+ amp circuits... or more.

Nah, it's fine as long as the cleanup crew doesn't cross streams.
