Black Friday Rants... WHY DIDNT IT GO ON SALE?!

Good question... But you would think atleast the knock off ones would go on sale.. However the one at Wal-Mart.com is tempting.. But not satisfying.

I know best buy sometimes has refurbished ones, but I'm not for that, but yea, I've been looking for an iPod on sale for about 5-6 months, no dice yet.

They say its too big... If it is, id rather get a crappy 256 mp3 to hold me off or just stick with my cd player till hopefully 2005 BF
Too big?! Thats insane, I know someone with that player, the Zen and it is really nice, for that price it can't be beat.

Well I have a Karma and its pretty sweet cuz it plays pretty much every file type that you can throw at it. I'm talking FLAC Ogg Vorbis etc. And yea I wanted a cheap Xbox but I'm gonna settle for the free Crimson Skies at Target.

I was thinking about getting a Dell DJ. 20 GB for $220 isn't bad, and I think it's a quality product. I'm gonna read some reviews first though.

I saw an IPod, might have been refurbished, advertised for $299 this morning when going through the ads. It was 40 GB. My dad's been looking for one so it caught my attention.

xbox doesnt go on sale, most systems dont. in fact almost every retailer that sells them doesnt even give discounts to employees on them

that would be because stores dont make any money on the systems.. they pay what you pay, they just make their money on the games you buy with the system

Hrrmmmm, so maybe the price tag of 175 is tempting... Should I give in? Do you have the dimensions of the product?

I was curious to see if anyone would discount the new Mario Kart DD GameCube bundle, although I don't think I would have bought one anyway.
What did you want to go on sale but didnt?

I wanted

Xbox
iPod

Anything the retailers forgot to sell?
Im pretty sure stores buy Xboxes and ipods at the same price they sell them to you at. They dont want to loose too much money on BF.

It's backwards. The stores make no money on games, and the games are there so that you might but some hardware that they do profit off of. My cousin who's a manager at BestBuy told me this

I'm afraid you are backwards. I work in the video game dept at BestBuy and our markup is alot higher on video games, that's why you see price drops more often on games, then actual systems.

Yeah your cousin must have explained it to you wrong. As people stated this is the reason systems hardly ever go on sale, but you can find games for $10 or even half price just weeks after release.

ok. That's what he told me because he said the stores don't give employee discounts on games becasue they buy the games at the MSRP.

But even more so than games and systems, ACCESSORIES are the big earners for the retailers, extra joysticks, carry cases, starter kits, add-ons etc. These are all cheap purchases with large markups.
If you go to a university or work at one, you can get an ipod about $30 cheaper than retail.
How does this work?

I have the Zen that was spoken about earlier. It's a little bigger than I would like, but it still fits comfortably in my pocket.

wow, you seem to know a lot about the video games business! you should look at applying to ebgames or something, they could use some more people like you! :)

The EBGames 75% off PO PC games under $14.99 should satify that last one as well.

Also noticed today that Target has some older PC games for $1.00 as well. (in general nothing worthwhile, though)

My local AAFES BX has GBA SPs for $60 tomorrow. Gonna pick one up.

And they give out so many of these 10% off coupons that are valid on Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving so basically you can get any system for 10% off.
