and the greatest Canadian is...

Mike23

CAGiversary!
Tommy Douglas! A bit of a surprise to me, as I thought it would be either Terry Fox or Pierre Trudeau. However, I think the show succeeded in it's attempt to spur on nationalistic pride. Discuss.
Discuss.
I have no idea of what you're talking about. Will others agree, or will it be shown that I just don't know crap about Canada. YOU DECIDE!

Gordie Howe!!
OLD TIME HOCKEY!!!

Honestly, I was shocked when they were showing modern commedians along with notable Canadien politicians and such during the promos for that show on CBC.

I REALLY miss Hockey Night in Canada.
A week without it is like a week without Monday Night Football.
jim carey...wait...he's now american baby! my next choice would have to be conan obrien
\

Wow I hope your kidding. Conan is born and raised in Brookline, Mass. Not Canadian whatsoever.

This is a joke, someone above me already got it, its the Great One himself, Wayne Gretzky. He's freeking Canada's son, and he should be the best one on whatever the hell it is the OP is talking about.

BRET HART
Close third for me, Gordie and the Great one are just a little higher
was bret the one that dies? or was that owen heart?

BTW, CANADA is pretty cool....

ZL, that's way too harsh.
Wishing death on someone is a terrible, terrible thing.
Even if they are ridiculous and deservedly bring the flames upon themselves.

yea, I agree. Laughing about someone's death is really bad.

Although I do not wish death on him, I do hope he gets some common sense beat into him

Frankly, I expected more Canadians then this. However, I do expect more knowledge from Americans about their neghbour to the north. I guess you do learn something everday...

Oh come on, plenty of us know about great Canadians, but who really wants to talk about Prime Ministers and members of Parliment?
Celebrities are so much more fun to discuss.

30 Helens agree that Celebs are more interesting that polticians.
30 Helens agree.

:fridge: I'm crushing your head. :)

I did say "mistakenly" doesn't he come off as the type of kid you read about in the news that found daddy's "huntin' rifle" and blew their own head off.

I have no idea why mike23 thinks anyone would know what he's talking about. Basically the greatest canadian is a tv show they've been running in canada (cbc I think) for a while, and they have famous canadians come on and pick the greatest canadian in their mind, and then say why they think so. Each episode is an hour. A former mp (member or parliament) picked gretzky

Terrance and Philip!
Happy 3k!

Well, I'm glad this went far. I'm sorry no one knows what I'm talking about, or why I'm even posting this. I'm sure "Greatest European" would have gone over better...sorry...

Most of us know you're talking about the CBC's "Gretest Canadian" Special.
Why do you think I was talking about Hockey Night in Canada and qouting Kids in the Hall?
Maybe I should have the fact it was a joke run as a headline on "The National" or have Good ol' DC address it in the "Coaches Corner"

Of course, you'll just pick on us Detroiters, and say our favorite Canadians are the brewers at the Molson factory and the dancers at the "Windsor Ballet".

See, americans live in a little plastic bubble. They know something out there exists beyond their borders, but are too scared to venture outside. That's why when you do happen to come across one of these creatures, they're usually in tanks or with automatic rifles, trying to make the world more like themselves. Though honestly, when paul martins liberals defeated harpers conservative it was a blip on cnn, and then never showed itself else. My father reads the news everyday, and look at the internet news everyday, and he's never heard of jean cretien or paul martin (well, I think he may know paul martin since I moved to canada, but not before that). Hell, our president never even had a passport until he became president, though that's a bonus here.

That 3K group grows and grows, it's 5,000 I'm really shooting for though, that's when Cheapy sends you a free toaster. At least that's what Casey, Nick and Punq told me.

A free toaster would be nice. :D

How did Alexander Graham Bell crack the top ten of Greatest Canadians? Maybe Greatest Scotsmen or American...How long did he spend in Canada anyway? 3 years?

Edit: Man, and Bret Hart made the list. Things can't be so great for your homeland when one of the top 40 people is a professional wrestler...and I should know since I come from the land of Jesse "the Mind" Ventura.

Ugh, Avril Lavigne is above John Candy too.....

I do enjoy the fact that they keep pumping out decent rock bands and funny comedians every year who run as fast as possible to America, though my all time favorite is Bryan Adams, that thing he did with the guitar, genius I mean it sounded like he was just plucking random strings and trying to pass it off as music..... of course it was probably a No. 1 here for weeks.

3 pages and no one's mentioned Neil Young. Bow your heads in shame....
