Help Please! Erasing Saved Data

Hi. I just bought a used pokemon pearl DS game for my son. How can I erase the data that is saved to it? Thanks!
 
The save data is erased as soon as a new game is saved, but if you have to erase the data, press up+select+B at the title screen (pg 9 of the manual).
 
I thought they changed it in D/P so that people couldn't 'accidentally' save over other people's games, and you had to manually go in and erase the old game data first.

Wish they'd thought of that sooner.
 
I think you're right. Now that I think about it, I remember some sort of annoyance like then when I first got it and was running through the beginning of the game like a dozen times to get all the starters for myself and a couple friends.
