My parents want me to help them buy a 42inch tv for their living room. It needs to be brand name(panasonic, samsung, sony, etc.). They will not trust a brand like Vizio or Westinghouse, or they'll yell at me. It has to be 1080p , using it for basic HD discs and TV viewing(they don't play games). I wanted to know what tv's are good and are avaliable that are less than $900. Maybe i should wait till Black Friday?

SHIT! newegg has a cheaper price, but it's already ready for shipping...

blackfriday.info there is a 42inch panasonic plasma on the market right now for approx 800.

http://bfads.net/

supposedly the half-light time is 34 years and burn-in is literally negligible for this plasma now.

Honestly, you should really look up on the 42" Vizio Plasma. For $747, you can't go wrong. Vizios are good TVs. I've had an LCD in the living room for two years and haven't had a single problem.

My store actually has those in stock for $697. But it varies by store, everyone might want to check around.

But, staying on topic. Everyone I know who has a Vizio really likes them.

The Panasonic TH-42PX80U is about $700 at 6th Ave. The price fluctuates between $698 and $768 from week to week.
I actually got Best Buy to price match it over the summer at about $725.

Excellent TV, and it is routinely on sale everywhere for roughly the same price.

I'd recommend you steer clear of Panasonic plasmas. There's a solid number of complaints about motherboard and other power issues causing the plasmas to do their own red flashes of death. It's a small number of tvs, but should you fall into that small number the customer service at Panasonic so far is a little disappointing for such a large company.

Last I checked, Best Buy had a 42" Samsung 720p lcd for about $750.

If you can deal with $900 - there's a 40" Toshiba 1080p at QVC, get 4% cashback from cashback.live.com. Lots of inputs if that's your thing!

Wait for Black Friday, it's hard to find a good deal on a top name brand like Samsung and Sony but you may have better luck with Sharp, Panasonic or Toshiba.

Try shopping online @ compusa.com.
I bought my 42" 1080p tv for $900, but 720p TVs are considerably less. I'd recommend LCD over plasma, but plasma TVs have been becoming less temperamental overtime (reducing burn-in, the angle to which you can tilt them without killing them, etc.).

Vanns is offering the Panasonic TH-42PZ80U with a Panasonic BD Player for about $950 and free shipping (tax for people in NY/NJ) it comes with 2 disney blurays for free sounds like a good deal for your parents considering they want to watch hd movies because they'll need a bd player to watch hd discs... i would jump on this myself if I didn't have a ps3. Panasonic Plasma's are only second to the Pioneer Kuro's it has great reviews and is very dependable

Get the Panasonic 42" 720P HDTV, model number TH42PX80U. Its great. Decent contrast ratio, great motion clarity, and affordability. Its only $799.99 most places, like Circuit City.

trying to decide between that vizio and the Panasonic TH-42PZ80U.
Im not getting the Sharp that Dell has, because people have been reporting problems with that.

BTW, did that vizio come with a warranty?

My family owns two of the Panasonic Vieras and they've never had a problem. Why avoid a product when only a very small percent of them may have a problem? If a product has a sucess rate of 99.9% or better, no reason to steer clear due to a couple of complaints. Look at the failure rate of the x360...it was almost guaranteed to fail and that didn't didn't stop anyone from buying it ;)

Honestly, the Viera is one of the best TVs on the market right now, you can't go wrong with it.

I just bought the same tv. I'd try and cancel, its $730 on Amazon. With a $5 HDMI cable it came to $799 shipped. Free shipping, tax was expensive.
I bought the Panasonic from 6ave. $864.85 shipped. sucks i had to pay tax since i live in NYC.
Sweet. That same TV arrived today for me as well. Except I purchased it from Ebay.

I purchased fore $729 instantly on Ebay, and I should have $200 cashback coming. I am absolutely loving the TV so far.
