Sonic the Hedgehog is on an adventure unlike any other! Powered by an all-new engine, Sonic Unleashed™ merges classic Sonic gameplay with the latest in next-generation innovation. Merging blistering 2D action with meticulously rendered 3D environments, players race through intriguing locations across the globe as Sonic to save a chaotic world.

On a quest for domination once more, Dr. Eggman unleashes a slumbering beast from the center of the world. The event causes a devastating tremor that splinters the world into seven continents and triggers a hair-raising transformation in Sonic. With the world divided and Sonic altered with new abilities and powers, the stage is set for a climactic battle... for when the sun sets, a whole new adventure awakens!

As long as this game turns out better than the last Sonic on PS3/360 (and from what I heard it does), I'm definitely getting it. Being only $49.99 is also great. :D

I'm getting this game through Goozex. :D
It'll be here in a few days... I'll post impressions of this game once I get the chance to play it. ;)

I have it.

Pretty much the daytime Sonic levels are awesome, the night ones are ok. The adventuring aspect is annoying though.

Overall it's fun though.

Demo is out now for anyone interested. It was exactly like how I imagined it would play. Run, run, run, qte, run, qte...etc. I wish they demoed a werehog level, if I wanted to do a daytime level, I could play a level in Rush or Rush Adventure. Bleh.

What did catch me off guard was how slippery the control felt during the forward running parts. I just played Adventure a couple weeks ago, and that was definitely tighter.

Things I liked. The running Sonic icon. Sonic's spin jump animation.

EDIT: Played it again. Dislike it even more. Will still buy at $20... :(

I think the demos is terrible. Just because the framerate is all over the place. However, unlike the 360 version, this thing is hitting 60 fps, whereas the 360 version is almost locked at 30 fps. It's really baffling to me. It's also 1080p, which surprises me, as it seems Sega's the only company that can get 1080p out of the PS3.

My god, this game is shit.

Stay away. That's all you need to know.

I like the demos on both PS3/360. I'm hearing mixed reactions from my friends as to whether the game is good (some love it, some do not). The Werehog doesn't seem all that bad to me (I enjoyed shooting stages and didn't have as big of a problem with Knuckles stages in Sonic Adventure games).

I dunno, I'm debating whether I buy Sonic Unleashed or SOCOM Confrontation right now. The game has to be bought one day for sure. I really like the demo and consistently get an A on the demo course (I'm not surprised I performed better with the PS3 demo since I tend to play with the Dual Shock controller best).

The back of the box doesn't mention 1080p, it mentions 720i.

I enjoyed the demo, The music was good, (at least for that first stage.) I think that I'm going to rent the game, maybe I'll buy it if Target puts it on clearance one day.

Well the game finally arrived in my mailbox this morning, and played it for a few hours... Here are my first impressions of this game. ;)

I actually own 'Shadow the Hedgehog' for the Gamecube, and the reason I bring this game up it to use it to compare the speed of both Shadow and Sonic in 'Sonic Unleashed' (They're the only Sonic games I've played in 3D). Playing a few of the daytime levels with Sonic, I can safely say that Sonic is hell of a lot faster than Shadow ever was... In fact, Sonic is about as fast as he was in his classic days, and that's a good thing. The controls in this game are a bit tighter than controlling Shadow, which is a good thing, but not as much as I'd like it to... still, the game is very playable.
I do like the level design, and how it transitions from 3D to 2D and back again, I thought that was really cool, and totally adds to the gameplay. The levels itself have like these special coins that you collect (I don't really know what these coins do, I suppose they unlock something) and require multiple playthroughs, since there are many different ways you could complete a level (Think Burnout Paradise, but on a much smaller scale, if that makes any sense).
Sonic the Werehog is a lot slower than traditional Sonic, and you could only use him at night. Playing as Werehog is like playing God of War, but not as epic... He has a health bar that can be regained by collecting the gold rings. Destroy your surroundings (Doors, tables, plants, barrels, etc.) and energy appears, of which you absorb automatically to buildup your Werehog abilities (kind of like Berserk in Resistance 2, where you are extra powerful for a short time). You have to climb, fight, figure out some simple puzzles, and basically find whatever it is that you are looking for at the end of each level.
It's easier to stay alive as the Werehog, though it's a lot more fun to play as the Hedgehog, since it's more exhilarating to play in high-speed. Fighting the enemies with the Werehog is a bit boring, because most of them are too easy (at this point of the game).
There's also an RPG element in the game. Coins that you collect can be used as currency to buy stuff, like a bookcase to hold all the books you collect while playing each stage. I haven't read the books, but I'd imagine it'll be used as a clue of some sort to help a townsperson, or whatever.
Monsters/enemies you destroy releases yellow diamonds, which is experience, and that experience can be used to build up certain attributes, such as speed, health, Werehog levels, etc. You'll have to build up the attributes of both the Hedgehog and the Werehog separately though.
Overall, I'm having fun with this games... and it isn't as terrible as some people make it out to be. The graphics, during gameplay especially during the cutscenes are really impressive, and are worth checking out, though in some areas, certain objects (only a couple that I've noticed, by the way) look last-gen. The framerate is really nice during the daytime stages, though it suffers in the nighttime in certain parts, but nothing that serious.
Is it worth checking out at $50? Only for the most hardcore Sonic fans, I'd say... Though If I were to buy this game, I'd wait until it hits $30. That's the sweet spot for me.
Ahh! Wall of text... I'll stop typing now! :x
Nice impressions Freaky. ;) It will be the next game I buy, but not at $50. I just really liked the demo too much. I watched videos of the werehog and flying and don't seem bad to me.
It's a Sonic game after 1999, it's shit. The demo just confirmed that.
You know how I liked Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes a lot. ;) But I tried very hard to like Sonic 06 and couldn't get into it. :whistle2:(

This game must have crack on the disc that you inhale or something. I rented this and Dead Space, yet I haven't even touched Dead Space yet and I'm half way through Sonic Unleashed.

Just beat this game last night! Eggman land took me SIXTY-THREE MINUTES. There were more f-bombs thrown at the TV than I care to mention. The last boss fight was epic; pretty much what I've come to expect from sonic games (look at Sonic & Knuckles, SA1&2). That being said, I'm glad to be done. Collecting those damned Sun and Night emblems just to be able to access the stages (even the MAIN ones!) was a load of crap.
