after getting a wii two years ago around launch, i am having buyers remorse, so to attempt to cure it i bought some highly recommended gamecube games. Viewtiful Joe Wind Waker and Eternal Darkness for starters. Veiwtiful Joe and Wind Waker are great, eternal darkness has potential but i am not loving it as much as the other two, maybe its because i havent even come close to beating the first level, i got stuck for 20 minutes with those stupid dials and then i thought i found hope after finding the dresser key but nothing to unlock. So, does this game pick up, it has great potential, such an eriee setting and the music is scary.

One of my top GC games, but if you've never played RE or similar games it might not be your cup of tea.

Once you get the
Tomb of Eternal Darkness
stuff really starts to pick up.

First off, "buyer's remorse" for something you bought two years ago is a little ridiculous unless it's a big ticket item. A $250 Wii is not.

Second, you're willing to write off the game after twenty minutes and not even finishing the first level? :wall:

Actually, Resident Evil 4 is the only wii game i have beaten. And i am not writing it off per-say i just want to know if it picks up.

It most definitely picks up. If you can appreciate a good story and clever puzzles and level design, you'll like the game. As the game progresses, it'll have your heart racing. It's one of the top rated GC games for a reason. Could that many people really be wrong?

I wouldn't usually reccommend this for the first level of a game, but if you're getting that frustrated, look up a walkthrough on GameFAQs. It's definitely not worth quitting over, and having a little help on the first puzzle might give you a feel for how the game works.

For the most part, I hate using guides when I play, but if I'm getting frustrated to the point that I'm not having fun, I'd definitely say a hint is in order. Trust me. By the time you finish the game, you'll be thanking me. It's easily one of the top 3 GC games everybody should play.

Eternal Darkness is the only game I've played through over 3 times. Please play a couple chapters before you give up one it. Read a faq if you're really stuck, I won't tell. Just don't quit on this game so easily.

I actually bought a used copy of Eternal Darkness a couple of weeks ago, but it was a PAL Version, not NTSC :(.

So now I have to sell it before I buy another one. And yes, i talked with the buyer about getting my money back, but I'm confident I can sell it for more than I paid for, and besides, I have a lot of games to finish anyway!

Eternal Darkness' first two levels are really just tutorials disguised as levels.

Its not perfect though, the camera angles can be problematic, but it was a deliberately chosen move by the devs rather than have a movable camera.

Rather than new play control I'd love to see a proper sequel. Just think of the insanity effects they could pull off on the Wii? Anyway, easily one of the best GC games and best games in general of last console generation. I love the monk level.

EDWii says we're enabling SDHC support.... Sike...

CURSE YOU ED!

Dare i say, i looked up a tutorial online, but only the first thing i didnt know how to do, i am going to try to get as much done without any walktroughs as possible, am i going to need one for anymore parts? i just watched till you have to set the clock to 3:33, which i had a hunch will be reoccuring theme do to that being the time when the main character wakes up and when you get the dresser drawer key.

You might get hung up on the boss battles or overlook the Mantarok rune, but really thats it, since the game isnt a sandbox you'll pretty much be able to figure out everything by process of elimination.

Also, if you want to have fun, let your sanity hang near a quarter of a bar.
I love the sanity effects! Foltzie is right; the best times are had when the sanity bar is rather low. :)
Just remember, if you break your Wii, Gamecube, or associated controllers in a fit of rage you arent covered under Nintendo's warranty.

I still need to get a copy of Eternal Darkness, never played it, would love to but I have never seen it in stores.

So I'll take it off your hands. ;)

ED hasn't aged well. The graphics especially. The controls at the time weren't too hot to begin with--very clunky and lame--and I can't imagine they'd get better.

The aging thing isn't made any better for ED by the fact that RE4 came along and made ED look even more like a holdover N64 title.

I enjoyed the game in its day, but can understand how someone would not dig it right now. I certainly won't ever replay it ever again no matter how many angry e-mails that bastard Dyack sends me. Rest in peace, ED.

I found Eternal Darkness overrated, not in terms of getting tons of praise that it doesn't deserve, but in terms of it never getting much criticism at all. I liked the game, and had a blast playing through it. My wife really enjoyed watching me play through the game, which is important to an extent. There are some chapters that are absolutely fantastic, and others that I wish would have been shortened or cut out completely. Despite finding the game uneven, I still would recommend to most gamers, as it seems to be more "inline" with what is expected from video games today.

tl;dr: don't give up, but don't expect a perfect experience.
