Best console games from the past few years?

I haven't bought any games in quite a while. Soul Calibur 4 is my newest, I think Super Mario Sunshine is my second newest. Aside from those, the majority of my games are from around when this gen's consoles launched.

I want to buy some sort of mid-gen games. Games that'll be cheaper than those $60 new releases.

I'm typically into strategy and action oriented games -- it's a plus if there's something to build up (like gaining levels, upgrading weapons, getting new skills, etc), in a non-linear way.

Oh, yeah, I should've mentioned that I'm not really interested in games that are available on PC -- I have quite a few PC games (Fallout 3 is one of them). I really love Fallout 3, it'd be a great suggestion if I didn't already have it. Same goes for Orange Box, Left 4 Dead, Lost Space, Mass Effect, etc.

Mostly looking for X360 / PS3 / Wii games.

...sorry, but just thinking about a list is making me sleepy, because there are just too many to name! I don't even know which consoles you own!

...get Crackdown.

EDIT: You JUST posted the consoles right before I hit save.

If you like Dynasty Warriors, get Ninety Nine Nights.

Why the hell is that the only thing I can think of? :wall:

PS3: Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 1 and 2, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank
360: Gears of War 1 and 2, Viva Pinata 1 and 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Crackdown
Both: Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, Devil May Cry 4, Dead Space
Wii: Smash Brothers Brawl, Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Mario Kart

That's what I could think of off the top of my head. I know some of them are on PC but most of them aren't.

Sounds like you need Valkyria Chronicles. Many of us considered it the best strategy game in recent years. It also has some action element, as well as gaining levels, upgrading weapons and getting new skills

The metroid prime games are good, and as far as current gen cheap games I've heard good things about Condemned and Crackdown.

Best games this past few years for consoles IMO are Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Call of Duty 4, LittleBigPlanet, Battlefield: Bad Company, Bioshock, Fallout 3, Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear Solid 4, Motorstorm, Pure, The Orange Box, Mirror's Edge, and others that I am probably forgetting.

You confused me there for a second.
Same goes for [. . .] Lost Space [. . .] etc.
Danger, Will Robinson. Kidding aside, Dead Space and Lost Planet are good bets if you've only played one or the other.

Now that I'm done being glib, both Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Valkyria Chronicles are good bets on the "strategy" side of things.

As for action....No More Heroes, I guess? Struggling to think of something recent that didn't also hit PC.

the games that stick out to me so far are

God of War 1 and 2

KH 1

Uncharted

Ico

Shadow of the Colossus

Metroid Prime

RE4

GTA Vice City & San Andreas

konami arcade classics ( mainly cause i love yie ar kungfu)

thats pretty sad for this gen too. ive played games i liked and i still play occasionally but so far uncharted , to me, is what next gen gaming should be about. pushing boundaries and taking gaming genres to new levels. i guess im in the minority when i say most of the games so far are good but they mostly feel like more of the same. theres only a small few that actually wowed me. or if its not more of the same its the same but kinda stripped down (gta4).

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Rock Band
Dead or Alive 4
Condemned 2: Bloodshot
Rock Band 2
Darkness, The
Saints Row

Those are my favorite console-exclusive games from this generation (in order).

imo (only back to 6th generation):

- Skies of Arcadia
- Tales of Symphonia
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Super Smash Bros. Melee
- ICO
- Zelda: Twilight Princess
- God of War I & II
- Super Mario Galaxy
- etc.
- etc.

There are a lot of great games in the past, list would be too big. :p
oh yeah bioshock was awesome until the end boss........
Hmm, I agree. Though I'm not saying fighting him wasn't fun, it's just I expected more from the end than just a simple boss fight, considering everything I went through in the story.

Also, Oblivion's a good game, but again...PC version way better
