Question about Price Matching...

Shazbot

CAGiversary!
I am looking to pick up In Treatment on DVD, and HMV has it for $49.99, while Best Buy is at $54.99. If I bring in a printout from HMV's website, will that be enough for Best Buy to price match?

No he won't. If he goes to HMV he can purchase it for $49.99; as that is the best price, he'll only save $0.50, unless HMV is totally out of his way.

I don't mean to be a troll here bc I love CAG, but do we really need to start a whole thread on a discussion of PM to save 50 cents???

BTW - it is 50 cents bc BB and FS will beat the DIFFERENCE by 10%.
So purchase price will be $49.49 + tax.

Advice to OP - save yourself the hassle and buy it at HMV.

End thread please.

If he buys it from BB, he'll save $5.50, no? He's not buying at HMV, he's buying at BB, hence, saving $5.50.

it wasn't a thread to save 50 cents, it was a thread to see what he needs to bring to price match. the price is irrelevant. also, as was mentioned, he may not have an hmv close by, or he may have best buy gift certificates or be a member of the rewards program and want to get the points.

but yes, i've pm'ed at best buy w/ an hmv online printout. they went on the hmv website to make sure the item was in stock, but that doesn't happen every time.

The pm saving would be 50 cents. Pming to get the bb points would be absurd, another 50 cents worth. You need huge price difference to make the pm worthwhile.

He might not actually have an HMV in his immediate area, so matching HMV's price would be a savings of 5.50 and worthwhile if they'd do it.

Anyway ... IT WORKKKKKS! And BTW, he'll save 50 cents, not 5.50. Best buy will give it to him for 49.50 and its sold at HMV for 49.99. Hopefully the gas doesn't cost over 49 cents.

He's likely going to have to travel to get it anyways so the gas part is irrelevant. And as stated before there is more than likely a reason he wants to go to BB instead.

If there isn't one in the immediate area they don't have to do the PM. Overnight shipping blah blah blah
^^ Uhh, maybe a typo? He'll get it for $49.49 hehe
Knew I'd get this ... lil bugger :p :bomb: But I guess if 50 cents is that big a deal, 1 cents is still 2 percent extra savings off 50 cents which is pretty good :D

And, Best Buy might be a lot further than HMV. (As it is for me), SO gas is not irrelevant (necessarily). Anyway this is a lame discussion, pay the 50 cents and when you walk out the door take it from some homeless guys hat or somethin.

If there's no HMV in his area BB doesn't need to price match him and can very well refuse. He could mention that he could order it online, but then they tack in shipping...

I like this silly argument over 50 cents
