Ghostbusters (PC) discussion thread

CAGiversary!
Anyone excited about this game?

I was thinking about getting the PS3 version, but I noticed the PC version is only going to be $30.. I'm sold.
But I can't find out any info if it's going to be a lousy port from the consoles.. And how the multiplayer is going to work for the PC? I hope it's not gonna be LAN or split screen only. :(

Also, I hope it comes out on Steam. :)

DISCUSS!!

Unless the reviews say it's a horrible port I also plan on getting the PC version since it will be half the price. I'm also hoping it will show up on Steam, though I'm not holding my breath since Atari only has 12 games on Steam.

WTF
I just checked Atari's official site and the PC version is only ONE PLAYER??

I hope this is a typo on the website as I was planning on getting the PC version..
Now I may have to "settle" for the PS3 version instead.

Also, Richard Longfellow, I saw a post in the Atari forums that someone said the PC version works with the 360 gamepad.

I went ahead and preordered at GS (first time ever). I wasn't too interested in multiplayer anyway. Early review are good, looks like it has some stiff character movement and a couple of areas of bad diffculty spike, but otherwsie pretty awesome. I have decided I'll enjoy it, regardless of reality.

Well I guess I'll have to get the 360 version. If the PC version turns out to be really moddable I'll pick it up sometime down the line.

I'm having a hard time deciding between the pc version and the wii version. I'll probably read some reviews about the wii version before I make any decisions.

From what I've seen a while back, the wii version looks awful. I don't mean just graphically either, it looks like a little kid version of the game-an entirely different art style.I'd go PC or 360/ps3 if I were you, I'm going 360.

The Wii/DS/PS2 versions were designed with those system's strengths in mind, so yeah, they were designed from the ground up to be more cartoony.
So is the story mode short; also is the multi-player just for the story mode?
I think there is a co-op survival mode along with Ghost vs Ghostbusters modes.

Such is the way of PC ports. Shoddy optimization and crappy support (for most ports anyway).

I'll just give this a rent. A lot of games I would normally buy on PC (FPS/RPG), I end up renting because I'm afraid of wasting money on a crap port. I don't buy PC games unless they're developed mainly for PC (RTS), optimized really well or if they're really cheap ($20 or less).

I'm hoping that the new Battlefield games are going to be optimized well on PC. Sure they're not "traditional," but I think the frostbite engine would be stunning in high resolution.

Has anyone picked this up yet? I want to get it for my PC but if the game is short(like terminator salvation) I'll rent it for the xbox.

didn't think it was out until the 23rd, unless I'm mistaken. Yeah Duke, lack of PC multiplay would definitely qualify it for gamefly rather than a pc purchase

I got the pickup message today for my Gamestop preorder. By none other than Mr Daniel Aykroyd himself. "This message is coming to you by the magic of 16 bit audio recording." :applause:

That was worth the preorder alone. I'll try and pick up the game today, and will report after fooling with it.

And I'll try the game too.

I know,.

Well what do you know...the first new PC game I've looked forward to in a while, and...it's dicked. There's an installation error with the game. Like waiting 1/2 hr for all 10 gigs to install wasn't fun enough, they botched the bleeping install process. Now I get to spend another hour scouring help forums for a solution that probably wont be available for weeks.

RIP PC gaming. Early test results point to suicide. :bomb:

OK, for all none of you who bought this...I fixed it. The installer puts half the files in the C:program Files\Atari\Ghostbusters folder that it creates regardless of the destination you chose in the "custom" option. Copy all lost files from the Prog Files Atari GB folder, put them in your preferred GB folder, delete the Prog Files Atari folder, and the installation will complete. How the hell can someone gainfully employed as a programmer screw up a simple generic installation program???

wow that sucks, at least you finally fixed it though
and thanks for the heads up about the installation...it just came out on steam today, so if i end up buying it, it i will have to be from steam so I don't run into the same mess you did with the installation...unless the steam copy is messed up also >___

Well the brightside of all of this is they weren't trying to fool anyone with this game. They released it with a $30 price tag which basically says "We didn't find the game totally worth $50 but it's still not that bad" But that installer issue is really messed up. No idea how that got through testing.

The installer issue only applies to physical copies of the game; my copy from Steam ran right after download today. Also a reason why I didn't get a physical copy is I believe you need the cd drive in your computer to play.

I have played this for a few hrs and so far it's pretty fun. Unfortunately I got a lot of slowdown the first scene with the Marshmallow Man. My specs are..

AMD Phenom II X940
4 GB DDR 1066 RAM
XFX Radeon 4890
Windows XP SP3

Is the game just glitchy or is this an incompatibility with my hardware?

The settings out of the box(or download in my case) kept causing slow-downs and my game to crash. I turned off all of the extra settings(left my native rez 1680x1050) and played the game with no issues. It looks as good if not better then the consoles' even with the settings turned off.

Q6600
2gb DDR3
Evga 8600 gts 256mb
XP SP2

Hope this helps!

I would expect the game to run great on your hardware but it could be the game is a horrible port and they dident care. I mean the 30 buck price tag is enough to show you they dident care at all.

I'm playing on 1280 x 720 with mediocre hardware (AMD 5000 and NVidia 9600GT) and it's running smooth with most of the goodies turned on. Are you running on a super-high resolution?

I agree with seen that it looks better than even the 360 version on just low settings. With all the options on, it rocks.
