Best Buy return/exchange question

So I did the Buy 2 Get 1 Free on DS games this past week. Now that the deal is done, what happens if I want to return one game from that deal?

In this case, its one of the games I paid for. Do I have to return all three? Or will they let me have store credit to exchange it for something else, or at least exchange it for other DS games worth the same value?

I'm just not sure how they'll handle this particular return/exchange because of the nature of the deal. Any insight that could save me an unnecessary trip to BBY would be great. Thanks.

I've got no experience dealing with Best Buy returns, but judging by other stores with similar deals, they might give you back 2/3's of the purchase price. I don't see why they wouldn't do an even exchange. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

You won't get a partial refund. Usually, you will be able to exchange the game for another DS game with the exact same value. Sometimes though, you'll get a hardass employee that won't let you do the exchange claiming that you'd have to return all 3 games and then can't repurchase the deal since it's obviously over. Just be prepared to ask for a manager if need be, and don't get angry if they give you a hard time. ;)

I wouldn't plan on it working.

Most likely, you'll get 1/3rd of the total purchase back, which will be applied towards the game of your choice. So, if you bought three $30 games, you'd get $20 + tax back on the exchange. Which means you'll owe them money towards the new game.

If you're lucky, you'll get someone to do an even exchange on it, and you'll be OK.

Why are you guys saying he'll get a partial refund? Did Best Buy change how they show free items on their receipts? Last time I got free stuff there, it showed as being $0.00 on the receipt.

I guess what we need is a clarification from the OP. Does your receipt have, for example, 3 $30 games showing as $20 per game, or does it have them listed as $30, $30, and $0. If it's 30/30/0 then I don't see how they could give you a partial refund if you are trying to exchange one of the $30 games. If it's 20/20/20 then yes you'll most likely get a partial refund.

Just because the item is showing as free on the receipt doesn't mean the register does something behind the scenes to cover partial returns off a bundle package.

The only way to know for sure is to do the return and see what happens. My guess is he'll end up with a partial refund for 1/3rd of the total cost of the three packaged items.

The receipt shows one game at $39.99, another at $29.99, and another at $0.00 but it says REG 29.99 with 29.99 dollars off below it.

I'm trying to return the $40 game because it was supposed to be a gift but the intended recipient already has it. The other two games are for me and I want to keep those.

If you return the $40 game, the bundle pricing becomes void so the $29.99 game that was given "free" in the bundle will be adjusted back to normal. So in the end you would return the $40 game but you would only actually be credited $10 due to the bundle pricing becoming void.

However, you should be able to exchange that $40 game for another DS game that is $29.99 or above without altering the bundle package pricing, you would obviously get $10 back if you exchanged the $40 game for a $30 game.

Oh my mistake, I thought you just wanted to exchange the game. If you are looking to flat out return it, then yeah you will get a partial refund.

I've tried the official Best Buy forums. Two employees unofficially answering questions gave me various different answers. Apparently they have official employees that'll give you the company policy on the forums, so hopefully they answer my question soon so I don't have to haggle with any store managers. It would be hard to believe they don't have a way to deal with returns from deals like this one as I'm sure this isn't the first time they've run such a deal.

They do have a way to deal with it. What the others have said here is correct, the confusion is my fault for not reading your initial post carefully.

If you are trying to flat out return the $40 game, what they will do is ring up the 2 $30 games and subtract that total from the total you paid. So you'll get back $11 or so. If you are thinking that they will give you back $40 since that is the cost of the game you are returning, that won't happen. If you want to exchange the $40 game for a different game of lesser value, then you would probably get the difference of the 2 games, provided the game is $29.99 or more.
