I just emailed GameStop Corporate this email. I am tired of their empty promises with preordered promo items. I am done with gamestop.

Hello my name is XXXX. I would not recommend your store or your company. I am very disappointed. I pre-ordered the DS game Scribblenauts for my daughter, only because the sales person told us about the promo giveaway (rooster hat). My daughter was very excited for the game and the promo item. Normally I do not pay full price for a game but preordered it for the promo item.

When I went to pick up the game and promo item, I was told that they did not receive enough promo hats. So we would not be receiving one. My daughter was very disappointed. I decided to not buy the game and took my 5.00 preorder money back. Your company has the responsibility to keep their word. And if a preordered item is not available then something needs to be done about it - rather than just say " I am sorry". Your employees constantly push pre ordering games for promo items. If that is your hook or what sets you apart than you need to be true to your promises. Ohterwise, I can go across the street to Play and Trade or just buy my games from various online stores.
You need me as a customer alot more than I need you. Gamestop lost a customer today. I am will certainly post my complaints on gaming forums like www.cheapassgamer.com

Sincerely

Dustin

I'd be interested in seeing their response to that letter, OP, even though this thread won't last long enough for me to see it...

Yeah, this is so typical of gamestop. Over promising on pre-orders. My local GS only got 3 of those hats in and I know one employee kept his for the pre-order. Not the employees fault, but I am sure more than 2 other people pre-ordered such an awesome title.

This is why I almost never buy new games at GS. I just pimp that store on specials and used sales.

I'm with you on that dsullo. Gamestop is real assholes when it comes to that. I have also stopped shopping there as well, especially because they really don't have very good deals to offer. I recently took my pre-order of for Aion because they are not carrying the collector's edition, and I took my pre-order off of ODST because I would much rather go to TRU and get a $20 gift card, and $12 action figure for free. To hell with you, Gamestop!

Hey, that's my name. You have no right to use it!! ;)

They did that shit with my muramasa pre-order. Gave away my damned poster before I picked it up. On top of that, they wanted to give me an open copy. I said "fuck you. I want my money back." (as I had pre-ordered in full.
So who did you send it to? If you used the Contact Us link from their website, you might get a call from the DM.
yes. that is what I did.
I went in after work and asked for my 5.00 back. I told the store employee why and he said he was sorry. He offered me the DMs number and I said I would take it , but then he could not find it.
My issue isn't with the store unless they got enough to fill preorders and kept them for themselves.

That always happens to me with gamestop. Infact, that is usually the only reason I preorder with them. They get promo items, then when I come, their out. Grrr, I hate that the only other place that sells games near me is Walmart >.

yeah i can only imagine what it's going to be like when i try to get my sgt. johnson card when i pick ODST tomorrow. i had a hell of a time getting the uncharted 2 demo card and then it took forever and a day to actually get it to download cause they had it at the most random times.

From the GS.com page before the game came out..

Reserve Scribblenauts and receive a GameStop Exclusive Scribblenauts Rooster Hat. Now you can look just like Scribblenauts star Maxwell without going through the hassle of turning yourself into a cartoon character. Available for online and in-store customers, while supplies last.

Supplies did not last. They indicated that it may not, and it didn't. You really have nothing to complain about.

//edit: Holy crap, I didn't know the hats were going for $30+ on ebay.

I agree with the "While supplies last caveat", but in this case the problem is more than likely that the employees divvied up the pre-order bonuses amongst themselves rather than hand them out to the customers who pre-ordered, which is bullshit.

It may seem that way, but as most of us are not GS employees, we really don't know.

Talking to the DM is probably the only way that anything is going to get done in this situation. Of course, it's a lot easier to whine and speculate on an anonymous forum.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but the "while supplies last" caveat should apply for the preorders themselves, not for the pick-up. They should know EXACTLY how many they will have available and be able to tell you if you will get one when you place the order, not when you are picking the item up. The way it stands now it's just a crapshoot, and that's nonsense especially with the way they hype the "bonus" items.

When I worked at Gamestop we would sometimes only get like 4-5 of a pre-order item even though we would get 10+ pre-orders on the game itself. Some people don't know about the pre-order "bonus items" some do.

IN the end atleast at our store nobody was allowed to take pre-order items (even if you pre-order it.) until customers picked up the pre-order copy's and if then there was some left we could take them.

Even then though we still had a drawer full of unwanted/claimed pre-order stuff we would sometimes give out to customers at random.

The thing that sucks is they always fall back on that. I preordered a couple of games from GameStop.com last year and did not receive the bonuses. I checked the pages for those games and discovered that they were still advertising the bonuses as coming with new purchases. I emailed them pointing it out and still got the "while supplies last" line.

Unfortunately, employee at retail stores...all retail stores...take this crap and either resell it or give it to their friends. I know a bunch of people were complaining about the figure that was suppose to come with ODST at TRU. They were there when the store opened, but somehow, the figures were gone already.

It's simple for me, if they don't have the bonus I refuse the item and cancel the preorder.

Anyway, I walk into a GS yesterday and just out of the blue ask them if they have had any Muramasa preorders left. The clerk said they did and gave me one with my $4.99 Dark Spire purchase. It's a longshot but maybe just check another local GS and see if they have any hats left over?

i remember a time when they gave you the preorder bonus when you preordered, not on pickup. but i guess too many asshats would preorder, get the bonus, and cancel the preorder

I had the same experience with Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts last year. In August, the promo came out that you'd get a code for the original on XBLA. I preordered it 2-3 days after I found out which was at least 3 months before it was released. I po'd it at the store near my house and my mom picked it up the day after it came out since I was at school. I came home that weekend and called why I didn't get one. The employee sounded like a stoner and was very abrput with me. He said "We don't have anymore so you won't get anything. Bye." Basically, couldn't care less and didn't even pretend to be sympathetic. I called again, asked for the manager and gave her an earful. I asked what pre-order number I was and she refused to tell saying they don't do it that way. I went back the next day and returned it. Since then, I've only bought a strategy guide and used games when there were coupons.

I personally hate the in-game preorder bonuses. Like with Assassin's Creed II, GS is giving some extra level or something. Even a creative director for the game thinks those who miss out aren't getting the full game.

A friend of mine runs the gamestop near my work. They got in three hats and had four pre-orders. They even asked one of the customers if they really wanted the hat (to keep it obviously). Of course one customer did not get the hat just like your experience. I used to go there back in the day. However, after not receiving a free item even with calling multiple times and visiting the store I had to give up. The employees are mostly idiots that could care less and flat out lie. I then ended up pre-ordering off their website for games (guaranteed pre-order items). but eventually quit due to shipping fees. Even though my friend runs the shop, they still have the same issues as every other gamestop I visit. Thank God I am not expected to by from their store. TRU is really my new favorite place after so many deals lately. Also their trade-in prices beat out everyone else right now.
