Xbox 360 New Update Problem

So my friend has quite a problem with his xbox. I went over to his house last night for a Rock Band night like we usually do. I bring my hard drive to put into his xbox so we can access all of the songs that I have downloaded. My hard drive has the new update on it from the beta test with facebook, twitter, etc and his does not. Everything goes good. Today I get a call from him saying that when his hard drive is in his xbox and he turns it on he gets a message saying...

"A system update is required to sign in to xbox live but the update is currently unavailable."

We can't seem to figure out how to fix this. Any ideas would be welcomed.

If you have the update, and you move your hard drive to another console, it'll automatically install the update on the other 360. If the other 360 isn't in the preview, they cannot connect to LIVE until the update is public for everyone.

LMAO. I don't mean to be mean or anything but THAT just had me cracking up.
Sucks for your buddy though.

Can he still do the system maintenance update where
it clears out ALL his cache? Not sure it works with the new NXE
but worth a shot.

Instructions:
System Settings >> Memory >> Hard Drive >> Choose Y(Device Options) >> Clear System Cache

Let us know if it works.

I think it even tells you to not move the Hard drive if your in the Preview cause of that specific reason. Guess your buddy has to wait it out now or try to clear his cache or something....not really sure

Yes it does say that. OP should have read the rules when he signed up.

Actually, I read over it a couple of times. It never mentioned it. All it read was this...

"Xbox LIVE Preview Program: Zune, Facebook and Twitter

I am happy to announce that we’re doing an Xbox LIVE Update Preview program for upcoming features such as Zune, Facebook and Twitter. Much like we have done in the past, you’ll need to visit the Microsoft Connect site from this link and sign in with your Windows LIVE ID that is connected to your Xbox LIVE Gamertag.

Once you do that, you need to fill out the "Xbox LIVE Update Preview Sign Up" survey in order to be considered for receiving the Preview System Update. We're asking a few questions about where you live, your home network, ISP connection and a few other pieces of information. We are looking for a good cross-section of our members in order to get the best feedback we can.
The Xbox team will then review all of the applications and if you’re selected we’ll send you an email notifying you of your acceptance in the program. A couple of points before you head off to register:
We’re looking for multiple thousands of participants, so your chances of making it in are good
This opportunity is open to all Xbox LIVE Members in regions where Xbox LIVE is available
Just completing the survey does not automatically get you access to the Preview Program. We’ll be making final selections from the completed surveys and send you an email if you are selected.
While both Xbox LIVE Gold and Silver members can sign up, Priority will be given to Gold members in the selection process.
For additional details and specific requirements, head to Xbox.com.

If you are accepted, you'll hear from us in about a week. Make sure your information on Connect is updated with a current email address so we can email you if you are accepted
."

The additional details just linked you to the survey page with no other details.

Did you actually read the stuff once you updated your xbox 360? It says it in there....one of the questions is "If i bring my 360 harddrive over to my friends house and he doesnt have the update what will happen?"

Yeah, its right there in the info.

It's still lame though. I don't see why the console can't just reset back to normal when the old hard drive is put back on.

Or why MS can't just let the previews spread that way as well. Expands the trial pool at users own risk, so I don't see why they care.

Yeah, when we put my HD in it works, but his won't. Why would my HD work on his xbox even though his serial number on his console doesn't match the beta test number?

I remember seeing that cautionary message when I signed up. He'll most likely have to wait until the update is released for everyone.
