Iv never played any of the Tropico games and im kind of tempted to pick up Tropico Reloaded for $5......

For anyone thats played these what would you compare them too? I love the Civ series but have been pretty iffy on many other strat games iv played. This seems like it might be closer to Civ where its more about management of many resources then about war.

Thank god there are no good steam deals this week. My wallet needs a rest.

Not a single one of those games look half decent. Broken Sword 3 is the only one that broke a metascore of 80.
I'm interested in Tropico 3. Anyone tried it? Is it worth it?
While I havnt played these games iv heard great things about Tropico 3 on numerous podcasts.

Except Tropico, Commando's 2 of course.

Been waiting for a sale for Tropico 3! The demo was quite fun, as I thoroughly enjoy the SimCity games. I think I will pick this up after the Xmas shopping.

Tropico Reloaded is a steal for the $5. I'd say they're more like SimCity than Civ, as you don't actually do any type of fighting. You control your island, and don't conquer any other territories.

I'd probably pick up Tropico 3, but I think it may be under my tree :)

Tropico Reloaded for $5 is a sure get for anyone who loves SimCity. Plus it comes with 3 games (Tropico, Expansion, Tropico 2). $1.66 a game is worth it to me :D

Went ahead and bit on the Tropico series.....stupid freaking steam nickle and diming me on games I didnt even know I wanted! I seriously have a crap ton of stuff like X-Com and Oddworld still sitting in my uninstalled folder unplayed from previous sales....

This.

Really interested in Broken Sword Package though, I liked the first one on the DS.

I actually just bought a retail Tropico 3 on Friday, damn bloody timing.

Anyway, finally got to play it yesterday...and stopped about 7 hours later. It's a super addicting SimCity, though it's far harder than SC.

It takes a while to learn how to balance your economy, politics, military and other pressures. You have to not only guarantee a cash flow, but make sure that the various factions on the island don't hate you, that you have enough soldiers to take out any rebels, make sure the military likes you so they don't start a coup d'etat, oh and make sure the US and USSR don't invade.

It can be a bit hectic, but the blend of pressures is a lot of fun.

Be warned that Broken Sword 3 isn't a point&click like the first two, and you may not like the keyboard controls if you don't have a gamepad you can use.
Except Tropico, Commando's 2 of course.
I should have mentioned that I have the Commandos & Broken Sword series already. ...but no tropico doesn't appear to be my thing. The only Sim game I ever liked was Civ2000.

Which podcasts are talking it up?
Motherfuckers deleted the Commandos 2+3 pack, which was cheaper. I'm annoyed.
Must be a regional thing, its on there in my Steam store. Commandos 2+3 for $9.99. For some reason the discount doesn't apply to it though so it's only $0.5 cheaper than buying them separately during current deal.

I'm considering the Broken Sword pack.... I like adventure games so maybe I should just pull the trigger. Bothers me though that 2 doesn't have very good reviews, but the third one will be a nice fit for the 360 controller that I'm getting for my PC later this month.

I know Rebel FM was. I cant recall who the other was but it was either Drunken Gamers, Gamerswithjobs or thatvideogamepodcast.

I actually really like Tropico 2, which is the least highly-rated in the series. In Tropico 2, you control a series of Caribbean pirate islands. I love it! Each pirate has a name and personality. I wish someone would do an update.

I bought it last week for $10. Tropico 2 has been impossible to find until digital download.

I decided to get Tropico 3. I've never really played a SimCity-esque game before but I was pleasantly surprised by the demo.

I was considering getting the Broken Sword pack but decided against it after reading there are issues with the second game. Apparently it's running through ScummVM and the cutscenes don't work if you launch the game through Steam. They only work if you either load the game through ScummVM 1.0.0 or download the 111mb cutscene pack from the ScummVM website.

For shame, I generally don't buy games on Steam if I have to patch it or download any additional content for it to work on my system.

Heh, I see you're posting that on multiple forums, TestType. It's definitely better if a Steam game works right on its own, but downloading an extra file is absolutely not a big deal. These are PC games, after all. We download things on our PCs all the time.

commandos 2 is one of my favorite games. a tit difficult, but it only adds to the game.
absolutely recommend

I won't be downloading the Broken Sword games, Jedi Knight, Quake, Heretic etc. from Steam until they're fixed. A selling point of Steam is the already-patched/ready-for-play games just two clicks away. Odd that Steam/Kalypso have this problem and GOG/Kalypso do not.

Broken Sword 2 from GOG didn't work straight out of the "box" for me. It required a few small tweaks to get the cut scenes to work right.

Yeah, you have to download them from ScummVM for the GOG version too. Why ScummVM is allowed to distribute those files while Steam and GOG are not, I don't know.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I liked it alot too.

Hey, you on mixnmojo too? :) Well I have to agree with cheapo72, one of the main selling points of Steam is the simplicity of having everything patched and ready to go, just click install and then click play when its ready. Don't wan't to worry about keeping files on my hard drive in case the ScummVM site goes down and I want to play Broken Sword. Everything needs to be included, otherwise I don't feel I'm buying a complete game.

I would like to get Tropico 3, but waiting for a better price drop. Recently I have been really liking digital downloads but will only bite if the price is less than a physical copy and Gogamer has Tropico 3 (import version) for $29.99.

Yeah but if that game is like $5 (like Broken Sword 2) I'll make a concession.
