Boxing day boom or bust?

Eh if it does suck atleast the december deals were good. B2G1, Tekken and Ea games being more than half off. Falllout GOTY .

It's been a good december for a cag boxing day 2009 is really just gravy right now. However a 2 for 40 copy of new SMB would cherry ontop my year of deals for sure.
 
Bust, because all sales have come pre-chrstmas this year. Retailers tried to prop up what was going to be a poor season for them with big price cuts. All sign show now that it didn't work and sales are down. Stores won't risk more loss leaders now.
 
I'm not looking for any more games but if there's a deal on a Panasonic 50" Plasma (TCP50G10 or TCP50G15) then I would probably bite.
 
I think there might be a couple of good ones, but retailers probably don't want to take much of a loss on things this year due to the safe spending of people.

I am hoping for something sweet on a PS3 however, what do you guys think about PS3 deals? Will there be any low prices, or mainly just bundles with remotes and stuff?

So far it's a bust, but we've only seen EB's deals. I'm gonna be out for this BD unless there's something RIDICULOUS out.
 
last year hmv was the game deal with a bunch of newish ones at $30 (galaxy, LBP)...if you were there when it opened. amazon had poor selection. bestbuy had their usual half dozen older ones at $20. "bin" games being on sale is normal...the bins, er racks, not looking as good these days.

I dont expect anything to beat any game in the store B2G1

where is goozex half price gift cards? @#$%
 
Interested in seeing what we get in terms of PS3 deals: if Sony replicates the bundles that the U.S. saw on Black Friday at different retailers, I'd probably head out bright and early and try to snag one.

Did HMV/TRU last year, picked up Prince of Persia/Gears of War 2 for $30 each at HMV and Halo 3/Gears of War for $15 each at TRU. And I, uh, played Prince of Persia. GOW2 is unopened. Gears of War got traded in during Trade 4, get 2 at Best Buy. So, don't want to create too much more of a games backlog or anything.
 
I've gotten some pretty decent game deals so far at the Source, Futureshop and Staples. So even if Boxing Day doesn't bring any spectacular sales it will at least give my wallet a break.

Bust. We have had plenty of great sales before Boxing Day: The Black Friday sales, the one day sales at EB/Gamestop, the one day sale at BBC for Guitar Hero 5's Guitar Kit with bonus Smash Hits, the TRU sale (which is actually better than the B2G1 free) and even Microplay's Buy One used game, get the second for $5. Of course, the recent Fallout 3 GOTY and Tekken 6 sales also are included. We've had Boxing Day sales all month. I've bought everything I wanted at great prices.
 
PS3 deal this year is the 160GB Uncharted bundle with Infamous and Killzone, dont know the price.

The 360 deal is a refurbished 20GB, dont know the price.
 
I think I'm done for this year. Own or beaten every game that I've wanted to play this year. The rest I'll wait for them to hit the bargain bin.
 
Really hoping for FIFA10 at 39.99 :p
Might also pick up a copy of Bioshock if that games becomes cheap

I agree with Snak3, I would also love a copy of BioShock for $5-$10. Sure, you can get it for $19.99, but it's the kind of game that was really good for the story, then nothing. It's meant for my collection, so the cheaper the better, hence him posting this on CAG.

Just because it may go cheaper than $10 doesn't mean it's the same as shovelware on the Wii. BioShock 2 is coming out, so this would be perfect for retailers to sell the first game to those who never played it along with the new one.
 
It's going to be a bust for gaming stuff unless you're looking for a system bundle. The deals have been way too great this holiday for a game to actually be at a surprising price. Even the biggest game of the year, Modern Warfare 2, was available for under $50.

I'm guessing we might see some games at $30. My predictions would be Halo 3: ODST, Assassins Creed II (again), Dragon Age, Brutal Legend (pretty much all the $40 EA games), Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, and Forza 3.
 
Yeah, EA Games will probably be on sale because of how terrible EA is doing right now. I also think that all games with those arbitrarily big plastic accessories will go on sale. Every game store and department store I go into has too many of them.
It's so bad at my local Toys R Us that they have 2/5 of their game walls for all systems are filled with these games, while also stacking tons of TH Ride around the electronics section of the store.
They need to get rid of these things and Activision needs to restrict their games to one, maybe two plastic accessories per year.

I would have to agree, sales have been going on for the last 6 weeks on games for really good prices
i remember the days of super nintendo, n64 where games were 69.99 or more and THEY NEVER WENT ON SALE.
I remember when i was like 7 y/o and Street FIghter 2 just came out for super nintendo and i think it was the only system to get it for the time being. It costed 99.99 at Microplay and i knew there were very limited copies. The hours i put in with ryu, ken, and guile mastering there 3 hit combo. jump in +hard kick. down +meduim kick, motion for the fireball

Yeap right on the dot. If on Boxing day its the same price I'll probably just pick it up at 19.99 anyways cause its a game that I definitely need in my collection, but one that I could see drop come boxing day...

Do you have any links or anything that show EA is doing "terrible"? I've heard a bunch of people say it, but I was under the impression they were doing decent. Sure, they closed Pandemic and cut 1500 jobs, but most companies have been hit hard by the slow economy and less-than-stellar year for gaming. EA had great sales from Dragon Age: Origins, Sims 3, NFS:Shift, FIFA '10 and Left 4 Dead 2, and regained the top publisher spot in Europe. I don't think EA is doing terrible, it's the industry is doing poorly.
 
Lookin like a bust so far. I'm crossing my fingers for Best Buy to come through. I have a gift card here with $150 on it that's burning a hole in my pocket.

Absolutely nothing interesting this year. I might purchase a new PC but I won't be standing in any lineups. Heck, I'll see if I can pick up some work hours. Ah well, thanks to everyone for posting the flyers!
 
I was looking for some PS3 Deals, but I didn't expect them to be so gosh darn frustrating. Best Buy's deal is perfect game-wise/price-wise: $300, three games (Uncharted 1, LBP GOTY, Ratchet and Clank CiT) I would enjoy, it sounds great...but it's a Fat. And while it's a big Fat, I kind of liked the idea of something with a smaller footprint, and I don't think the extra 40GB of hard drive space is enough to overcome that.

But, three free games of some value is a great deal, so I might have to get over my stereotypes over a console's appearance.

Otherwise, sales are pretty cold for me, although I might pick up Fable II and will definitely grab Season 4 of How I Met Your Mother for $15 at Future Shop.
 
i think this boxing day will be a BUST like last year the only game worth while getting for me was Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe for PS3 for $39.99 at Best Buy. another reason i think it will be BUST is cause the massive deals that went on in stores before Christmas..... too name a few they were


( 2 or 3 different Stores ) had Dragon Age Origins for sale $39.99 - Walmart Future and I THINK Zellers * a friend of mine asked me about this and his plate has been full with exams and such and he missed on the deal 3 times which he didn't know about and i feel bad for him so i'm keeping a ear out for another sale for that game.

the walmart deals are weak the Zellers Deals are weak ( 50% off certain titles the best ones were probably mentioned the rest will most likely be crap games ) and Toys R Us SOME deals are O.K but everything is a complete mess ..... all eyes are on Best Buy and Futureshop and if they got crap then i'l start playing my back log of games.

While the sales don't always match entirely, Real Canadian SuperStore = Real Atlantic SuperStore. Chances are that some of the Boxing Day deals could transfer between them, and cheap Uncharted 2 could be among them.

but whats wrong with boxing day sale on those big boxes of band hero for ps3/xbox theyll just sit there collecting dust unless they do a bigger sale its not going anywhere... 1-2 people buying them 170...

and wii please... just please its just there to collect dust people just dont know that they are going to be so disappointed after 1-2month of having it because it has nothing else after sport/resorts and NSMB and those wii fit /active :p and xbox is just ticking bomb one day kabooom... 3 lights of red flashing before your eyes... ps3 is a far more superior system just that it came out later so it is catching up with game selection although it pretty much caught up and so far 360 has not come out with anything other than having the multiplatform titles... maybe the only thing holding people back is lack of bundle of games with the ps3... i guess thats fair... tho that walmart slim bundle looks decent to start you off infamous and batman for 299.99.

but once the ps3 exclusives come out there will be no more blurry bs from porting over from xbox360... uncharted 2! is the stuffs.
